"Get up." I heard Jeff huff. I was surprised that I had ever fallen asleep.
I was exhausted to say the least. Not only that, but I was sore and stiff.
"Change your clothes. We can't let Slenderman see the blood." Jeff ordered, tossing me a dark green sweatshirt and some black jeans.
I nodded, grabbing the clothes and rushing down the hallway to put them on in the bathroom.
I heard a knock on the door and flinched, hurrying to throw on the clothes and hide the other ones.
"Anyone?" I heard BEN ask from the outside.
"One second!" I almost facepalmed because of how nervous I sounded.
I stuffed the clothes in my sweatshirt pocket and opened the door.
"Today's the day you get to prove yourself." BEN said, "Or the day you die."
"Thanks for the reassurance.." I shuddered.
He shrugged with a grin and fixed his hair in the mirror.
"You think I'm gonna be okay?" I asked.
"Maybe," BEN chuckled, turning to face me.
"But If you keep worrying it's gonna make you seem weaker." BEN pointed out.
I knew he was right, so I put on a brave face and walked out, trying to hide my pain.
When I got into the kitchen I caught some of the proxies glancing at me with curious eyes. I remembered that today was the day they got to see my power.
I literally had no place there. No one talked to me besides Jeff and BEN. But Jeff hated me so it didn't count. Sadie, though, would give me a small smile every now and then.
Maybe when I revealed my power I would gain more of a place? I didn't know. All I knew was that right that instant, I needed to prove myself.
It was either that, or death.
As I was eating breakfast, Slenderman popped into the kitchen. I was used to him just randomly showing up when we least expected it.
"Are you ready?" Slenderman asked from behind.
I turned to face him, summoning up all of my confidence. I plastered on a brave face and replied firmly, "Yes."
I immediately felt a shock pierce through my body. I didn't shriek like last time, though. But I did have to clench my fists and fix my jaw.
I blinked a couple of times. I was in an unnerving part of the forest. It was slightly foggy and it was completely silent. My heart sped up, and my eyes darted around.
"Today you will be put to three tests. If you complete them correctly, than you will join us. If you fail, than.." I couldn't see Slenderman whatsoever, but I felt his presence.
"I don't see anyone. I thought you said they would be here to reveal my power." I pointed out.
"They are hidden, as am I. Now, for the first test.." I took a deep breath, steeling myself.
"You must run, don't let it catch you. Find the great rock in the clearing." Slenderman ordered.
I didn't exactly know what the 'great rock' was, so I decided to look for the clearing he mentioned. From behind, I heard trillions of twigs snapping and leaves crunching.
