Just a short story that I had to write for a class in college. Hope yall enjoy

It was raining, but red was everywhere. Soviet soldiers violated innocent houses, stealing the natural lives of their current residents. Thunder boomed and lightning crashed. The air was stagnant with the melancholy emotions that emanated from the throats of the people who were allowed to stay. As another lightning bolt crashed down and a small girl with dark raven hair screamed and cried. Silence engulfed the little girl and she longed for the warmth of her family and friends. "They're all gone," she cried, her throat raw from the weather and the fat tears that ran down face and neck. A man in a wagon passed by slowly in front of the child and then stopped. He told her to shut up, that no one wanted to hear her whining, then he spat at the ground next to her. She swallowed her tears and waited for the man to be a safe distance before she let out a soft bellow of pain. "Momma, Papa, everyone," she whispered through shallow cries. Another wagon passed by, faster than the other one. There was a clunk that echoed from her right, and it made her jump slightly. A box lied on the ground. The little girl slowly got up from the stagnant ground and walked warily over to investigate, her knees caked with mud. As she crept closer, she could hear a wailing noise emanating from the box. She lifted off the top with one hand and automatically covered her mouth with the other. Hot tears flowed like a waterfall down her face. It was a baby, no more than a few months old. Rain hit the baby in its face and it started to cry, scaring the little girl and she dropped the baby. There it lied in the mud and rocks, blood trickling from the back of the baby's head. Its eyes were fluttering, and it cooed lightly, but then it fell silent. The little girl heard nothing as thunder and lightning clapped. She fell to her knees, her eyes wide. Throwing her head up towards the heavens, the little girl mourned the baby and the purest thing that she'd ever seen. Still, no one came to comfort her. The little girl grabbed the baby and cradled it against her chest. They were both deserted in this new hell.
