For the first time since that incident, (Y/N) slept in her own bed. Chiba-sensei — maybe she should get used to calling him Yasu now — helped her scour the house for any potential dangers and cleaned along with her.
"Weird thing, shouldn't the police have done this?" He asked, "This is a crime scene and after gathering evidence, they either clean up or close it off depending on whether or not they need to investigate more."
That made alotofsense. "Well, after detaining me, the officer told me to go back home."
"He what?" The man — her brother — asked incredulously, "Someone should fire him before I do. That fucking idiot."
(Y/N) hummed in response, unsure of what to say, as he kept on ranting about how idiotic the police officer was. "I swear to God, does he not have common sense. Forget it on a professional level, how did he even think that was acceptable on a personal level." With every word, the rage in his voice grew. "I'm so angry right now. There could have still been someone dangerous out here."
"Yeah," (Y/N) replied, recalling part of the reason why she didn't go back home that night. "How are you notfreaking out," he asked before sighing, "Never mind, I'll just talk to Tsukauchi later."
After they finished cleaning and inspecting every spot, they went up to (Y/N)'s room. The only room with a bed where (Y/N) could sleep peacefully without conjuring up bad memories was her own. She asked Yasu to accompany her — she had laid out a sleeping bag for him — so that the place could feel secure.
She trusted him. It wasn't as though she was trusting some random dude who proved he was her brother just a few minutes ago; she spent ten months with this man and if he was a bad person, she would have already known.
"The box is still here, huh?" He observed as he laid down on the sleeping bag, "How many items have you used so far."
"Two, I think. The earrings I loved and the locket thing was cool except it broke so I'm powerless inside buildings."
"That can be fixed easily," he said sleepily, a yawn intertwined in his sentence, "I also need to teach you more so you won't need lockets inside."
"Are you tired?" (Y/N) asked and received a hum that sounded vaguely like a confirmation. "Good night then."
Another hum, presumably meaning "night" as well.

(Y/N) was able to sleep well somehow. She thought that being back here would result in horrible dreams and sleepless nights, but it was fairly peaceful.
