John's POV:
I heard the gunshots and Marcos falling, I saw Lorna get angry and almost got captured. I thought they had her but then I heard a someone yelling for them to stop and it was like everything was paused. I looked around to find a young skinny brunette girl with chocolate brown eyes looking at me. She was wearing a grey raincoat with what looked like a dark blue top due to it's sleeves poking out. She had black leggings with navy blue socks and purple sneakers on. She was carrying a black duffel and was looking very scared at the sight of the police.
"Help your friend" she yelled. Together Marcos and I helped Lorna out from the policemen's hold. "Come with us" I said to her kneeling down to her height so I didn't scare her more. She looked at me terrified. "It's going to be okay, we're like you" I said to her. She nodded and followed Marcos, Lorna, Clarice and I to the car. I quickly helped the little girl into the car. Once we were in the car and she was settled I became curious. "I'm John, this is Marcos, Lorna and Clarice" I told her. "I'm Abbey" she replied softly. "How old are you and how long have you been on the streets?" I asked. "I'm five and two, three months, do you have any food? I haven't eaten today" Abbey replied. "When was the last time you ate?" Lorna asked, "a day ago I think, it might have been longer" Abbey told Lorna. "Here, eat" said Marcos handing her a fruit bar. At hearing this I'm shocked, she's five and already living on the streets with no food or help. I heard her say thanks before eating it. I had to concentrate on driving but I could help but notice her getting comfy and falling asleep.

A few hours later we arrived at the underground. "Lorna can you grab Abbey's bag for her?" I asked, "Sure" she replied. I carefully tried to pick up Abbey without waking her only to see her opening her eyes looking very sleepy. "Hey sleepyhead, welcome to your new home" I said, "Home? What's going to happen to me?" she asked looking around frighten. "Yes, home it's okay nothing is going to happen to you, I promise" I tried to sound reassuring. I carried her upstairs to my room as we didn't have another room available. "You can stay in here until we find you somewhere else to sleep" I told her as I carefully laid her down on my bed. "Ok Mr John" she said quietly. I smiled and headed onto the landing to speak to Marcos.
"She's asleep" I told him. "She looks like she needs it, poor kid living on the streets at her age, I wish she didn't have to go through that like I did" Marcos said. "I know but she's off the streets and safe now" I replied. We talked for ten minutes before I heard screams. Abbey! I hurried into my room to see her crying with her head in her hands. I put my hand on her back and made circles on her back trying to calm her down. I carefully picked her up and sat on the bed, carefully putting her on my lap and holding her close. "Hey" I said softly "you okay? Did you have a nightmare?" I asked. She didn't say a word before nodding. "It's ok, you're safe now, I've got you, I'll protect you" I told her. "Do you want to talk about it?" I asked.
"When they came for I was so scared, they shouted at me to get on the ground, my parents looked at me like I was a freak of nature. I can remember crying telling them to stop. It all got to much and I stomped my foot shouting for them to stop, that was the first time I remember using a big amount of my power.I ran to the house, grabbed what I needed and ran. They chased me and tried to shoot me but they missed. Living on the streets was so scary, there were bad people, I didn't know when my next meal was. Sometimes I went to sleep hungry, then I ran into you and helped your friend, is she okay?" she asked. "She's fine, you're safe now, you will never have to go another day without food, no one is going to hurt you, I promise you're safe" I said protectively. I held her in my arms until she fell asleep. I carefully laid her back now in bed before going to speak with Sage and calling Evangeline. I made up my mind that I wanted to adopt Abbey. She needs a family who can protect her.

I was able to get Evangeline to get the proper papers so I could adopt Abbey. She was surprised but did what I asked.

The next morning once Abbey had awoke I told her that I was going to adopt her and care for her as my daughter.
