Chapter 49 – Shattering Phantoms

I stilled, right there in my position taking a few heartbeats to understand what Nathan had just said. Muddled, I just froze in my position just one step behind Nathan.

What had he just said?

That was for raping my wife’

As Chris grabbed his head, from the effect of the crushing punch, I was certain it would have caused some brain damage. The force of that punch was enough to kill a man, easily. And yet I was wrong, Chris just groaned in pain for a few moments before pulling himself together. There was clearly no limit to what these two brothers could bear physically.

Shocked at what they had seen, Chris’s men came hurriedly towards him, worried about his wellbeing. But as one of them approached towards him, trying to help him, he growled animalistic ally towards him scaring him away.

The other men now stood with their weapons aimed towards Nathan’s head, waiting for the next order, but it didn’t seem like this pleased Chris either. His eyes continued to scan around as he rose up, before finally settling at the blood parched Nathan.

But before they could launch into another death battle, I scrambled myself out of together, and made use of the tiny space that was created between them as they glared at each other.

Placing myself between the two, I hoisted my hand up, so they would see me, not seeing me between them was a possibility considering they were towering well over a feet from both sides. Suddenly, seeing the enormity of these two giants up close and standing right between their wildest tussle, I could have peed in my pants. But I held myself up, for Nathan, I reminded myself.

Somewhere, I could feel that the anger at his assumption, that I would cheat on him, building up inside, so was the hurt. As moments passed, it became clearer and clearer to me how much he had lacked trust in me. How not one a single occasion had he ever shown me that he truly did trust me. It had always been about if I trusted him, if I wanted him, if I belonged to him. But I pushed my mind off that, as much as it was possible, ignoring the painful clench of my heart.

Slowly, as I could hear both of them breathing hard, they turned their death glare on the interruption below. Looking right into my eyes. But as moments passed, I clamped my legs together to stop this urge to flee. They were two tall, muscular and huge animals and I was sandwiched between them. But somewhere along the thoughts of me wanting to run away, I hadn’t realized both of them had calmed down looking at me.
