Declan's POV - Castle Benton (FINALLY!)(Also trigger warning for violence and blood and the whole shabang! If you're sensitive about blood and fighting, please skip this chapter!)
Declan Harp couldn't hold back the wicked smile that came upon his lips when his machete came down on the neck of one of Benton's soldiers. The sound of the sharp metal that sliced through the flesh of the young man, made Harp's skin crawl and he knew he was one step closer to Benton's fortress.
Untouchable. Or so they said. The castle was never breached and Harp didn't doubt it was well armed. Nothing is untouchable in Declan's eyes. Everything and anyone can be hurt, one way or the other.
He pulled his machete out of the body and turned his head to the left when he heard Fortuna yell something at McTaggart. It was dark now and the only thing the men could focus on, were the torched the English carried. Their spoiled asses weren't used to warfare in the dark.
It was true, the English were with many and they were only with a dozen. The plan that Declan and Fortuna came up with right before they left the ship, worked well.
Separate them in the dark. Kill them off one by one.
While his friends kept the English busy, Declan took the clothes of the man he just killed. He quickly changed, the cold wind of Scotland was nothing compared to the North of Canada. The dead man's clothes were a bit too small, but they would have to do and the knee long black coat and cap was excellent to move through the darkness.
Another shout of Fortuna towards McTaggart and Declan hesitated for a few seconds. They made him promise to keep moving forwards, no matter how hard they got to endure and maybe even suffer losses. Declan hoped to see them again when a new day would start. All of them. He already lost Charleston.
Declan wasn't going to loose anyone else if he could help it. Truth was, he had to leave them here on the fields, fighting for their lives between the tall grass in the fading storm while he went into the fortress.
Sneaking in was easier then he thought. No one held him back because of the clothes he wore. Most soldiers were also too busy trying to fend of his friends while Declan made his way through the dark corridors of the Fortress until he found a loose door that gave him entrance to the bowels of the castle.
He moved silent and it didn't go by unnoticed that the castle's stillness crept on on him. Declan barely passed two soldiers on his way up the narrow stairs and swiftly took them out without making a sound. It was all about pressure points ; if you were able to sneak up on them from behind, sneak your arm around their neck and used your free hand to cover their mouth, you could easily strangle people without them making a sound. Even break their neck, if you wanted to.
When Harp reached the first floor, he tried the handles of the doors in the long hallway. Declan frowned when he wasn't able to open the last door of the corridor, a restless feeling sneaked up on him. It wasn't normal all doors would be locked. The long corridors were lit by candles on the walls and he tilted his head a bit to the left.
The castle was still silent...Which was also suspicious and Declan sighed annoyed. A trap. He was certain of it, but he couldn't back down. Not now. He was too far into the lion's den to retrace his steps.
A scream that echoed through the fortress send a sudden chill through his spine and Harp held still. His fingers clenched the machete in his hand so hard his knuckles turned white. The scream was filled with pain and agony, echoed against the walls and back to him.
Elizabeth...
Another scream penetrated the silence of the castle and Declan started moving again. His pace fast then before. He didn't bother to try and open the other doors he passed ; they wanted him in one area of the castle and when he heard Elizabeth's pained shouts, Declan was more then happy to oblige Benton's wishes.
