"What are we doing here anyway? Are you sure you know how to go back to the lobby?" one asked.
"Hyung, you just have to follow the signs towards the lobby," another said.
"Well, sorry, I'm horrible in directions!"
As I turned to the hall, the 3 men are the 3 dongsaengs of my sunbae.
"Excuse me, but this is an off-limits place," I said. "The diagnostics are on the other side, if you want to hang out in some place. Not here, please."
I walked past them and walked up 2 or 3 stairs before I enter my office spaces of the surgeons.
"Uhm, Doctor Park, why is this place off-limits?" Jimin asked.
"It's where we rest and conduct our studies, as surgeons we have to study the different organisms and micro-organisms for us to know what causes bacterium and how to stop them, of course we do not leave out viruses that can cause epidemics in the society," I paused. "Please, get out of the off-limits."
Jimin swallowed his saliva, "Wha..what words did you just say? I am offended by the use of your vocabulary."
"And I am offended of your dumbness," I answered.
"I am offended! I am dumb and I do not know what she meant," Taehyung joined our conversation.
"Aish, would you please calm down. Alright, we'll go to the meeting already, how do you go to the lobby, Doctor?" Jungkook asked me.
"Down the hallway, turn left, go straight, turn right to the ICU and down the hall."
"Thank you, and Jimin-hyung?" Jungkook called. "Say sorry."
"What? Me? Say sorry? If I don't mind, she might've used harmful words against my reputation!" Jimin defended.
Taehyung laughed, "She spoke science in English, what do you expect? She's a doctor."
Jimin turned to Taehyung, "Who's side are you on?"
"The left side," Taehyung answered.
"Sir Park," I called out. "Sorry, I've been cranky because of the endless medical cases. If you'll excuse me."
I bowed and turned around then I quickly stepped inside the office where my residents and I spend time to rest. Boy, these kids never learn to clean their stuff.
All their laptops are opened, their coffee mugs from last night are not cleaned, and there's honey butter wraps on the floor. They've been working hard on their thesis, oh, these kids are really something.
I sit down on my swivel chair inside my enclosed, small office and I sighed. Ah, Chaeyoung, it's okay to let the stress out, you don't have to carry the weight alone. Let the stress all out.
If you're asking me why, it's because being a doctor is just stressful. There's always a bigger weight than the other and you can't turn down anything because if you do, you will risk someone's life.
Gosh, I'm too emotional. I should get a grip, those times are over. Think positive, Chae.
As I read more articles in the news online, my phone rang. There was this article about an investigation on homicide and it was interesting but my phone started to ring and it's annoying when you keep hearing the ringtone.
The emergency room's number? Don't the interns take care of emergency room problems?
"Hello?" I answered.
"Doctor Park are you free? There are 2 ambulances coming in and our interns are assisting in 4 different operations right now," the nurse said.
