[AHS Season 8 Apocalypse AU]
"So, what are you wearing tonight?" Gallant asked her excitedly as they sat at their respective seats in the dinner table.
"What's tonight?" The ginger asked, narrowing her eyes at the hairdresser.
Gallant groaned, "The party? Oh, right. You missed the announcement."
"I was... sick." Adelaine tried to lie, but the disapproving look on the hairdresser's face indicated that he didn't buy any of it.
"Yeah, right."
۞۞۞
COCO ASKED ADELAINE TO COME BY HER ROOM, so they could prepare for the party together. Gallant was doing the blonde's hair as she looked at Coco's closet, trying to find something to wear for the Halloween festivity that would take place tonight.
Mallory was staring at the fire in the middle of the room, talking about being the Dark Phoenix due to the radiation. Coco and Gallant were mocking her, but the ginger watched the brunette closely. After all, she remembered how powerful Mallory was as a witch. She could do the kinds of magic that were unheard of to most of their kind.
Concentrating on the fire, Mallory tried to make it stronger, but she failed to do so. When the brunette gave up and turned her attention on Coco, Adelaine walked closer to the fire, staring at it intently. She tried to recall all the lessons she got from Myrtle from Telekinesis down to Descensum. Pyrokinesis would be fairly easy to her since she was a dark witch. The ginger closed her eyes as she clenched her fist. She felt the fire's heat reach out to her, surrounding her aura like they were connected. She willed it to be bigger, hotter and brighter, enough to light up the whole room. When she finally opened her eyes, the flame got bigger, causing the other three to jump in shock.
But Adelaine only smirked in amusement.
"I need to get something from my room," She excused herself, masking the smirk on her lips briefly, "I'll be right back."
Gallant, Coco and Mallory didn't pay attention to her – still shocked at the fire acting out in front of their eyes.
Adelaine hurriedly made her way into her room, remembering the long, black sleeveless dress she found a while ago when she was dressing up. Locking the room of her door behind her, she was surprised to see Michael standing in the middle of her room, looking at her thoughtfully.
"What are you doing in here, Mr. Langdon?" He flinched slightly at the way she addressed him, and the coldness of her tone.
"Adelaine – "
"It's Chanel," The ginger corrected abruptly, her face emotionless as she stared into her eyes, "My name is Chanel."
Michael let out a breath through his mouth as he cautiously took a step towards her, "Okay, Chanel – " He forced the name out, "Don't go to the party tonight. It's a trap. Everyone is going to die."
"Why should I listen to you?" Adelaine demanded stubbornly, unable to bite back the anger she was feeling towards him. Maybe he only wanted to save her so he would be the one who would kill her.
"I know you still believe me, my love," The blond gently gripped her arm when she didn't back away or flinch. His blue eyes were pleading and they were telling her something that words cannot express. "Trust me on this one. I would never to do anything to hurt you."
"But you lied to me," Adelaine pulled her arm away harshly, "Do you think that wouldn't hurt me?" She turned her back on him, her fists clenched at her sides again, "Are you ready to tell me the truth or will you keep lying to me?"
Michael pressed his body against her back, his hand gently caressing her sides. The ginger tensed, but didn't made a move to create distance between their bodies or push him away. "I will tell you everything, I promise. Someone is tearing us apart and I don't know who. But I won't let them suceeed. I'll prove to you that I'll never hurt you again."
"Fine," Adelaine shrugged. She guessed that one more lie from him wouldn't hurt. "I won't go tonight."
He wrapped her arms around her, kissing her head lovingly, "I love you, Adelaine. And I'm not lying about that. I'll prove it to you."
The ginger fought the urge to say it back. It was already against her better judgment that she believed him in not attending Venable's party. She couldn't break again and fall into his arms until he proved himself. She had to be strong.
Michael slowly turned her around, pressing his lips tenderly on her forehead before he quietly left her room and shut the door behind him.
