"All right, we're good. Come on down." Nate calls out after we climbed down the ladder and see a bunch of pillars with holes in them. "It's just a cistern, kids. You sure this is the right place?" Sully asked after he, Elena and Cole jump down. "Yeah...it's gotta be." Nate said as he looks around.
"So what was Sir Francis doing all the way out here, anyway?" Elena asked. "He was on a secret expedition for Queen Elizabeth." I replied. "Oh yeah, something about the lost city of Ubar, right?" Cole said to me and I nod. "How do you know that?" Elena asked him. "I've told him alittle bit of what we were doing, but not all of it." I replied. "So this lost city is under this city." Elena said and Nate shakes his head.
"No--no, it's I'm the middle of the Rub' al Khali desert." Nate replied. "This place just tells you how to find it. Supposedly." Sully said. "Uh-huh." Elena said. "Wait a minute...this is what Francis Drake sketched on the back of the map." I said as I look around the room. I dig into my bag and pull out the map, turn it over and hold it up, everyone starts to come over to me.
"See--check it out. These are the same pillars." I said as we look at the sketch of three pillars and different symbols on the bottom corner. "All right. Francis Drake must've made these notes when he was down here." Nate said. "Does it tell us how to find the entrance?" Cole asked. "It's pretty cryptic, but I think we can work it out." I said as I look at the sketch and Nate looks at it over my shoulder.
"These holes must be important." Nate said as he points at the holes that were drawn on the pillars. "Guess we just have to find the right one." I replied. "How are we gonna do that? There are a lot of those holes in this room." Sully said as I look behind me and see a message written in Enochian script. "Hmm..." I mutter as I hand the map to Nate and pull out the decoder and the ring and start to decipher the message.
"What? What is it?" Nate and Sully asked as I decipher the message. "The moon will show the way." I said. "The moon? Down here?" Sully asked then he laughs. "I am not hanging around this place 'til night time." He said. "I'm pretty sure it's a riddle." I said as Nate sets the map on a fallen pillar and pulls out a pen. "I'll make a note of it in the map." Nate said as he starts to write on it. "You're gonna mark up Sir Francis' 400-year-old map?" Elena asked. "What? He wouldn't mind." Nate said as he picks up the map and start to walk around the room, occasionally holding up the map.
"Wait! This is it!" He exclaims as he stands near the side of the room. "Sully, you go to that column." Nate said as he points at one column. "(Y/n), you take the one on the far wall there. I've got this one." He said and I go to the one at the far wall but Cole places a hand on my shoulder. "Uh, let me do this one." He said. "You sure? I don't mind." I said to him. "Yeah, I don't want anything to happen to you. I'll do it." He said and I smirk as he goes over to the column. "Okay, now just reach in and find the lever. I think we have to pull them at the same time." Nate said.
"Okay, but what if you're wrong?" Elena asked him as Sully and Cole place their arms in the hole of their columns. "Yeah, I kind of like this arm, Nate. I use it all the time." Sully said as he gestures to his right arm. "Just do it." Nate said, annoyed. "One, two, three..." he counts down and the three men pull the lever and we heard a noise but nothing happened.
"Are you sure that's the right lever?" Cole asked Nate as I heard another noise. "Listen." I said then a door on the side opens. "What'd I tell ya?" Nate said in a cocky attitude. "I'll be damned, it worked." Sully said, impressed, as he, Nate and Cole pull their arms out of the holes and we run over to the door. "Yeah, pretty amazing." I said.
"Oh, okay. So why the big secret all these centuries? What did Elizabeth expect Drake to find?" Elena asked. "We don't know exactly. Treasure, I guess." Nate said. "What else?" Cole asked. "The buried riches of a lost civilization." Sully replied. "Course it's never that simple, is it?" Elena asked us. "Rarely." I said. "And those assholes in the black suits--they're looking for the same thing, I suppose?" Cole asked. "Yep, they're Marlowe's men." Sully replied as we make our way down the hall and into a large room with an open doorway and some large statues.
