"Hi, Pidge." I greeted her in the hall.
"[Y/N]? What are you doing here?" Pidge asked after jumping away in pure shock.
"I'm a cadet too. Just like...." I trailed off. "And I'm also your senior, so.... But enough about me. What are you doing here?"
"Looking for my brother." Pidge told me.
I had known the Holts for ages. Well, my adoptive parents had known them for ages. I grew up with their two kids, Matt and Katie. And the three of us grew up quite close to one another. That is... until it was time for us to say goodbye to one another. Even though, Matt and his dad went to space with Takashi Shirogane, I still hung around out with his little sister.
And then, Matt, his dad, and Shiro were proclaimed dead, I stop talking to the Holt family. Then, I found out Katie had been banished from the Galaxy Garrison. For looking for the real reason behind their disappearance. To be fair, she could have just asked me to go find out. I DO have the clearance for it.
"You could have asked me to do that for you, Pidgeon." I told her.
New recruits were paired with a team and assigned a placement earlier that week. I had out about Katie posing as Pidge. I remember she hated that her brother called her that, but I understand why she went by that. It was the only thing that gave her a part of the brother she lost. Well, the part she lost to space (and aliens). Ayways, I gave her the opportunity to deal with Hunk and Lance (with what I heard about those two).
It was my input that gave her Lance McClain as her pilot and Hunk Garrett as her engineer. Why did I give her those two? Because I thought she deserved to come out of her comfort zone. I thought she needed a little excitement and fun in her life.
"Why must you call me that?" she asked me referring to my use of her nickname.
"Well, to be fair. Pigeons are annoying, and you are also." I looked at her annoyed expression on her face. "Sometimes."
Sometimes I forget what my brother saw in her, but her humor must not be one of them. This was not my voice in my head. Telepathy? I could read minds? Or someone was sending me their thoughts in a though projection (which is a real life superpower).
"Okay, so a couple paladins of Voltron and a few of their freedom fighters are going to raid this compound because they believe this is a Galra hideout. However, since they are coming here, then I would have to fight them or go to jail. Since you know I am a criminal." I mumbled to myself staring at the tablet with the camera on it showing they were coming.
The green and blue lion that held two additional rebels on board. This was going to be fun. It was true I was a criminal. Technically, I was a mercenary and I did what people asked of me. Not to mentioned I hacked into networks all across the galaxy and extension the universe.
"Now, what to do for when they get here?" I asked myself out loud.
A voice rang into the air saying, "Here. Here. Here. Here." That was my system, and only I knew what it meant.
"Let's get started." I pulled my hood to over my head and covering my eyes.
So, they couldn't catch my whole face. Just my smile. The smile... he always seemed to like and strived to see more of. Especially during the time when I thought I was a hopeless orphan. I turned around and grabbed a bo staff. Now, to escape out of sight. I hid in my favorite room of my hideout, the training room library. Okay, so there's a reason for a training room library.
I was limited on space when I made the hideout, and I needed both a training room and a library next to the necessities (a bedroom, kitchem, a bathroom, a storage closet, a laundry room, and a electronics room full of computers and databases). So, I made it work. Plus, if you get jumped it's extra practice with being in an enclosed area or inside area.
I waited patiently for someone to come in. They were looking for me, and if they were smart they would haave split up. However, if they thought before they acted they knew that you never split up (in horror movies) or you'll becoming easy to attack. However, they had split up. How do I know? Because the green paladin walked into the training library (cool name I know).
The paladin's smell was so familiar to me. So nice. So familiar. So much like .... I shook my head erasing the thoughts from my head. I leaped from my place (hiding behind some book shelves) and brought my bo staff to the neck of the Green Paladin. I couldn't see their face, but I didn't need to. I didn't need to see their face in order to fight and soon escape.
"Uh. Hi. You must be the merceanry that hacked into the rebel forces mainframe? Quite impressive." the green paladin's voice was female. And familiar to me.
I stayed quiet still pointing the staff at her. My eyes don't just stay in one place. They're constantly moving to find an angle. An angle that my opponent won't see coming.
"Oh, so you don't like to talk. Well, then here goes nothing." and just like that the Green Paladin's bayard (a fancy green knife) came at me.
I flipped out of the way careful to not let my hood fall off my head. The Green Paladin threw the knife and it shot out like a grappling hook as it came at me. I narrowly dodged it before running up to the Green Paladin and smacking her on the head making her fall onto the ground. I heard her make an inaudable noise like a grunt or something.
She got off of the ground and turned to me. She came at me with her bayard and pointed her knife at me. With her close proximity now... now, I could see her face. I now know why she was so familiar to me. Her voice. Her smell. She was...
"Pidgeon?" I questioned.
"Why did you call me that?" she asked me/
I ignored her question. "Pidge." I breathed out/
"How do you know my name?" she asked me.
She heard me. And I tore my hood off my head to reveal myself. My [H/C] hair cascaded down in waves as I looked at my best friend's younger sister.
"[Y/N]?" she asked me.
That was when I saw him enter the training library. I looked up to see him. He still looked the same. Yet, his smell was different. Just slightly different. Probably from not showering in space.
"[Y/N]? What are you doing? In space?" Matthew Holt asked me.
"That's actually a long story." I told him.
"Lance, I found the merceanary. And you'll never guess who it is." Pidge said into her comm.
Wait a second. Lance? As in Lance McClain? The same Lance that I forced her to be paired up with? I knew he would be a bad influence on her. I knew it, and I went against my instincts for it.
"Lance is here too?" I asked her.
"Yeah, he's the Blue Paladin." she explained. "So, why are you in space?"
"Just like I said, it's a long story." I replied.
"We have time. So, what is your story on how you got to space?" Pidge asked me.
"I should be asking you the same thing. I can clearly guess how Matt got this far out. Since, you know he was in space. But why are you in space and how did you become a paladin of Voltron?" I retorted.
"That's actually a long story." she said using my own words against me.
"Then, we can have a 684 minute cram session about our time apart like we've always done on that lion of yours." I offered.
"Yeah, but now this time, I'll be apart of it." Matt said.
"That was the whole point, genius." I told him.
