Dawn's POV

We anxiously waited for the dreaded phone call from the Cullens. And then one fateful night it came. The boys were told to meet in a clearing the following morning just after the sun rises behind the dense clouds hiding it from view. And so they went. Each wolf kissed their respective imprints before they left us at Sam's house.

They were gone for the entire day. Emily, Rachel, Kim, and I did our best to distract each other from the worry and dread we were all feeling. Emily tried baking, Kim tried watching a movie with Rachel, and I paced back and forth between the two rooms, watching a bit of the movie before going to help Emily.

My cell phone rang in the early evening and I walked into our, mine and Sam's, room to answer the call. "Hello?" I said not recognizing the number.

"Is this Dawn Brooks?" A male voice asked.

"Yes, this is she."

"Well, I am very pleased to tell you that your mother has improved quicker than any of us have anticipated."

"So what does that mean?"

"It means that by the end of the week you will be able to check your mother out of the hospital."

"That is wonderful news! Thank you for telling me."

"Of course, there will be outpatient appointments and several check-ups that will need to happen."

"No, I understand. I just can't believe this is happening."

"Can't believe what is happening?" a very familiar voice spoke from behind, effectively scaring me.

"Thank you so much for the news. I will be in at the hospital within the week to discuss this more in detail," I said before hanging up the phone. "My mom. She got better faster than ever expected and they think I can bring her home by the end of the week!" I told Sam, a few tears escaping my eyes.

"That's wonderful." Sam walked over to me, wrapped his arms around my waist and spun me around.

"It means that I have to leave tomorrow morning. And it's gonna take some time to get everything settled and sell the house and find a new one here and pack and change hospitals and-"

"Breathe," Sam said resting his hands on my shoulders. "Take as much time as you need to get everything settled so that when this newborn battle is over we can finally begin our lives together."

"I... would love that. So what happened today? What did you find out?"

For the next hour and a half, Sam filled me in on everything I missed including the date the battle is supposed to take place. Three weeks from today. It might not seem like a lot of time but it is better than them fighting tomorrow. Sam also informed me that they would be patrolling by Bella's house on alternating nights and that Bella would be visiting the Rez when they needed to feed. Jake apparently volunteered for every patrol and to keep her company while she was on the Rez. I just laughed. That boy was in for a real treat when he finally meets his imprint. I know for a fact that if he still dotes on Bella, his imprint is more than likely going to struggle to be in the same vicinity as him.

After dinner, I packed my suitcase while Sam booked me a flight for the next morning. As we were settling in for the night we talked about what we wanted our lives to be like when it was all over. Sam wanted at least one child and he wanted to eventually stop shifting and hand the pack over to Jake. He also wanted to get married to me. His exact words, 'I don't care where or when we get married only that you are the one walking down the aisle.' To which I replied, 'I will only be walking down the aisle if you are waiting for me at the end.' I told him that I wanted at least one child as well and that I wanted to spend my days here with him. I told him that I didn't care what we were doing so long as we were doing it together.

The next morning I got dressed in a long-sleeve burgundy dress with a pair of knee-high grey boots with white socks that just barely peek out above the top end of the boot. As I walked downstairs everyone was sitting in the small dining room, a few had tears in their eyes. I did my best to reassure them that I would be just fine and that I would be back before they knew it but even I didn't know when that would be.

Sam loaded my bag into the truck as I said my goodbyes. I gave everyone a hug and shared a few tears with Emily. I reluctantly pulled away from the las hug which happened to be Jake. "Promise me you won't do anything stupid for Bella," I asked of him as I walked back towards Sam.

"I can promise that I'll try not to," Jake said in return.

"I'm making the boys hold you to that and I will ban deserts if you get hurt because of a stupid decision." The boys shared a small but sad laugh and I hopped in the truck before Sam drove off.

The ride to the Port Angles airport was quiet and slightly tense. We didn't really make small talk. We were both worried about the other person to really make a decent conversation. He parked the car and got out, jogged around the front and opened my door for me.

"Sam, I need you to promise me that you won't do anything stupid and that you will come back to me in one piece," I begged not letting go of his hand.

"I swear to you that once this is all over I am never letting you go," he vowed.

I silently nodded my head and let him lead me over to the security area. This was where we parted ways. He set my bag down and wrapped his arms around my waist. I wrapped mine around his neck and tears leaked from my eyes. I could feel something wet hit my shoulder and I knew that he was crying as well.

"We will get through this and when we do you will move in with me and we will start our forever," Sam whispered in my ear.

"Forever," I whispered back.

I slowly removed my arms from around his neck and he reluctantly took his hands off my waist

I slowly removed my arms from around his neck and he reluctantly took his hands off my waist. I leaned in and gave him a slow kiss on the lips and in half a second his hands were back on my waist pulling me as tight as he could to him. We pulled away slowly and I grabbed my bag and walked through the security checkpoint. Once I was through I looked back at Sam and gave him a small wave of tears springing to my eyes once again. He lifted his hand up and waved back as I disappeared around the corner. About an hour later I boarded the plane and was on my way home. My chest felt heavy like my heart stayed with Sam and the pack imprints and all.
