'let's fall in love for the night'
at the sound of a knock on the door, i almost trip over my feet opening it. i look at billie for a split second before throwing my arms around her. she stumbles back a little and laughs at the force of my hug.
'hi, love,' she murmurs. her voice is quiet and affectionate. i sigh, softly.
'i missed you. so much,' i say into her shoulder. she squeezes me tightly. she's so warm.
'me too, baby.' she says, in the same affectionate tone. i smile against her at the pet name.
'how were your interviews?' my voice is slightly muffled by her shirt.
'okay. they were just interviews, nothing interesting.'
we stand, arms wrapped around each other for what must be at least five minutes.
'this is is nice and all, but can we cuddle on the couch or something, my legs are tired.' billie's voice is muffled too.
'okay.' reluctantly, i let go of billie and we go inside. she doesn't let go of my hand though.
'you wanna watch a film or something?' i ask. we walk through to the lounge.
'sure.'
'they're all over there,' i say, pointing to a bookshelf full of movies, 'you pick, i'm so indecisive. i'll go get blankets and shit.'
she shoots me a thumbs up and starts perusing the shelf. i assume she doesn't realise her hand is still in mine.
'billie?'
'yep?' she says, not looking up.
'you're gonna have to let go of my hand, love.'
she laughs and looks down at our fingers.
'right, yeah.' she rolls her eyes at herself and takes her hand away.
i go upstairs, getting my duvet and all the blankets i can find. i pause to sit on my bed, wondering how on earth i ended up here with billie.
'nora?' i hear a shout from downstairs.
'yeah?' i shout back.
'i picked a film!'
'okay, i'll be down in a minute!' i quickly pick up my bundle of blankets and head back to her, careful not to trip over them.
upon entering the lounge, i see billie sitting on the couch, film in hand, looking very proud of her decision.
'the babadook?' i raise my eyebrows.
'hell yeah.'
'this is not gonna go well. i'm scared of everything.'
'you're gonna love it, i promise.'
'i doubt that.'
'i'll give you cuddles if you get scared, kay?' i smile, knowing i'll get many cuddles this way.
'okay.'
