"Finn. What's wrong?" you asked the boy in a hush tone.
The unexpected reaction from Finn worried you further more , he cast his eyes to the floor like a troubled pup once more.
"I just wanted to finish our dream castle as soon as possible princess, no matter how many times the crown warned me to pause and replenish energy. I want you, me and Jake to live together happily" he explains, lost in his own fantasy.
"Wait, who's Jake?"
"Jake, is my dog. He's my best friend" His voice became calm all of a sudden, as if talking about the canine soothed him. "We used to hang out together at the farm and play fetch, he would do this cute little dance when ever i gave him a burrito." he chuckled, it wasn't like the maniacal laughter you're used to, but it was more light hearted and carefree.
Finn's change in personality certainly threw you off. He was acting like a completely different person unlike the crazy ice prince you've been traveling with these past few weeks. You blinked in silence, unsure if you should be scared of the personality shift or not. Deciding to dive in for now, you pressed on with more questions to know more about the boy who's sitting beside you.
"He sounds like a fun friend. What happened to Jake?" you ask in interest, his relaxed laughter rubbing off on you.
"I... don't know. He was with me when everything became... Oww..." Finn groaned, raising a hand to massage the side of his head while wincing at the throbbing pain.
"Finn? are you okay?"
"Yeah, It's just a little headache." he removed his hand from his head, waving it to the side as if to decrease the problem.
"I'll stop with the questions for now. You could use some rest since you've been working all day." Feeling a little guilty at causing the already tired young man a headache. Your eyes were quick to land on the golden crown sitting on his head. "What if you took off that crown for a moment? it looks pretty heavy" you attempted to remove the crown yourself, but Finn became visually tense the moment you barely raised your hands. Even in his current state, he was aware of the dangerous powers the crown possessed so he preferred you didn't have any contact with it.
"I-It's okay, i can do it myself." he removed the object from his head, eyeing it carefully like a bomb ready to explode.
Finn settled the crown on the ground next to your bed, passing a hand through his long hair with a tired sigh. Feeling sympathy for the guy, you sat back into the sleigh bed by tucking your legs with the covers. You felt a bit too embarrassed to say it out loud so you simply patted your lap, silently offering it as a pillow. The ice boy accepted your offer without a second thought, collapsing his head on your thighs with an exhausted yawn as he made himself comfortable.
A small blush spread through your face at the fact you had a guy's head on your lap. You're no stranger to romance but you've never done this kind of thing before due to lack of interest and experience. You were even beginning to have doubts about letting Finn sleep on your legs, however you tossed those worries out of the window when you saw his serene expression.
You tentatively reach out a hand to brush away the loose strands of hair from his face. Although Finn had his eyes closed, he reopened them the second he felt your touch. Causing your breath to hitch up at the sight. The rigid ice blue in his eyes was diminishing, instead being replaced with natural and darker toned irises that made him look more human. And dare you say, appealing even.
Finn didn't say anything about you caressing his hair. Yet, the calm smile he gave you said more than a million words.
It didn't take long for him to eventually fall asleep, realizing just how tired he really was.
There was a lingering feeling that made you look at the crown, like it was something you should be wary of. You personally didn't know much about the object, yet you were able to connect the pieces together with the ice magic and the unusual madness that fell upon this carefree young man. It has a limited magic supply that needs to be relished if used constantly. Whatever crazy effects it had on Finn, it could be possible that it wears down to a certain degree when the crown is in this state as well. Or at least, that's what you want to believe.
Sadly, you can't confirm anything until you gain some information from Finn himself.
For now the whole thing was starting to make you tired as well. Feeling the sand man do his own magic, you leaned back towards the sleigh bed with a yawn. Giving the young man on your lap a quick glance before saying in a hushed tone.
"Sleep tight."
