October 2019

Karlie is just about to drift off to sleep when she feels Taylor stir against her. They're both tangled together on the large couch in their living room watching the Food Network, Karlie fighting to keep her eyes open in the hopes of minimising the jet lag she's sure to feel tomorrow after flying back from Shanghai. That and she doesn't want to go for a nap on her own, content to drift off to sleep on the couch with her girl in her arms.

"I hate it when they use fondant icing," Taylor mutters rolling her eyes, leaning her head back further against Karlie's chest.

"I know baby, but it's easier to work with," Karlie mumbles sleepily, slipping her free hand under the material of Taylor's shirt to rest against her stomach.

"But it doesn't even taste nice," Taylor whines peering over her shoulder at Karlie. "Imagine spending that much time on a cake and then covering it in chewy, tasteless fondant."

"Hmmm," Karlie hums reaching for the remote to lower the volume on the tv during the ad break.

"I mean what's wrong with some buttercream, a little Italian meringue, some cream cheese frosting?" Taylor says shifting around on the sofa to face Karlie. "Where's the invention? The creativity?"

Karlie can't help but chuckle at her fiancee's dramatics tightening her arms around Taylor's waist. "I knew we shouldn't have watched the Halloween baking championship, it's too much excitement for you."

"Karlie, they're not even making the fondant icing, they're just rolling out the store bought kind," Taylor says as if that settles the argument.

"This isn't Great British Bake-Off Tay, this one is all about the look," Karlie counters.

"Well I don't like it."

"I know baby."

"You're pacifying me,"

"Maybe just a little."

"I don't like that either."

"I'll see if I can stop," Karlie chuckles dropping a kiss to the top of Taylor's head.

Taylor doesn't respond, just scoffs and buries her face in Karlie's chest and settling comfortably against the taller woman, tangling their legs together.

"You can't let it bother you so much babe," Karlie says and Taylor can hear the smile in her voice without having to lift her head from where it's resting against the soft material of Karlie's sweater.

"Oh, that's rich coming from the woman who gets worked up every time she sees someone wearing a fanny pack," Taylor says snapping her head up to look at Karlie incredulously.

"It just bothers me that they're suddenly cool again," Karlie says indignantly, rubbing her tired eyes.

"Everything comes back into fashion eventually babe, that's how it works," Taylor says smirking up at Karlie as she brings her arms up to wrap around Karlie's shoulders.

"But if there was one thing that you were confident would never ever be fashionable it would have been fanny packs," Karlie argues.

"And the worst thing is that it's people who would have literally rather died than been caught wearing a fanny pack that now have them strapped across their chests just because someone has decided that they're suddenly cool again."

"You can't argue that they're functional babe," Taylor teases trying to hide her smile.

"I'm not saying that they're not functional, but they've always been functional. People haven't just discovered that they're functional," Karlie fires back.

"I don't know what to tell you baby, I think you might just have to wait this fashion craze out," Taylor says shaking her head fondly.

"I just want to know who's responsible for it? Who decided to bring them back?" Karlie pouts thoughtfully. "Who's patient zero in the great fanny pack epidemic of 2019?"

"My money's on one of the Kardashians," Taylor mutters.

Maybe we should ask they Kaylors to do some detective work?" Karlie breathes, looking down at Taylor with wide eyes.

Taylor can't help but laugh out loud at that one and she uses the hold she has around Karlie's shoulders to pull her down and kiss her soft and slow.

When they break apart Taylor smiles at the dazed look on Karlie's face.

"What was that for?" Karlie asks, slowly blinking her eyes open.

"You're so cute when you get all worked up," Taylor says before leaning up to kiss Karlie again.

Karlie rips away from Taylor with a gasp turning towards the t.v. when she hears the opening notes of It's Nice To Have a Friend. "Oh my God, baby, it's you!"

Taylor twists her head around, the angle awkward and sees a trailer for Abominable playing on the t.v. behind her. "Mmm, is this the first time you've heard it?"

"That's so cool." Karlie says softly, giving her fiancee a gentle squeeze. "We're definitely going to have to go see it."

Taylor hums her agreement and twists back around to face the t.v.

"Do you think people know that it's about having crushes on girls?" Karlie whispers softly in Taylor's ear.

"I doubt it babe," Taylor chuckles intertwining her fingers with Karlie's.

"Is this step 1 in indoctrinating the children and making them all gay?" Karlie jokes.

"Shut up Karlie," Taylor throws back over her shoulder and Karlie ducks her head down to stifle her giggles.

"You know Christmas is coming up, maybe I should get you a fanny pack?" Taylor teases.

Karlie leans over Taylor's shoulder to meet her eyes, "If you get me a fanny pack, I will choke you with it."

"Oh, kinky baby," Taylor replies tangling her fingers her Karlie's hair and using her grip to pull her close and kiss her again.
