Josh's fingertips harshly dug into my skin as we stood terrified and cold in the dark. He began to breathe heavily as my heart started to beat faster and faster with each passing second, footsteps were heard echoing throughout the hall, scaring us both.
"Yo guys! Are you there?" Charlie called out, his voice bouncing from wall to wall. "I think someone else is here." He whispered loudly, creeping closer to the pool as his silhouette slid back in, joining us.
"Charlie keep it down, your gonna get us killed." Josh spat, still holding onto me tightly.
"Okay sorry." He whispered as sadness riddled his voice.
The three of us stood there for what felt like hours before Charlie felt the need to climb out of the pool and investigate the noise. His footsteps rattled through the presumably empty building until we heard a deafening shriek, my eyes filled with tears as I feared the worst. Josh leant in closely, kissing me on the cheek as the door of the building slammed shut and the lights turned on again. Josh pulled my body out of the water, looking at me seriously. "I'm gonna check on your brother, you stay here and change into my hoodie and the new pair of leggings I slipped into your bag earlier." He panted, cautiously walking through the building. I changed and placed a new bandage on my foot before wrapping the bag around my body and following him into the abyss.
I peered through the empty rooms to find my brother laying there covered in blood, Josh hung over him, using his survival skills to save him. He wrapped a towel around his abdomen and applied pressure accordingly. He looked at me sorrowfully. "I don't think he's gonna make it, help me take him to the car where we have more of a chance at saving him." He said, trying as best as he could not to break his emotionless front.
I carried my brothers lifeless body to the car, with the help of Josh. I lay him in the back seat and rested his head on my lap as josh drove carelessly through the village. I kept a tight grip on Charlie's wounds and used my supplies to help him but he wasn't doing so good, thankfully, we had just made it to the mall. I didn't even have the chance to get out of the car before Josh dragged Charlie's body out of the car- carrying him through the mall himself. I was left to walk on my own, making my way to the green room expecting to see them there but being merely disappointed at their absence. I dropped my bag onto the ground before I burst out of the door and in a state of panic, ran through the mall and into the pharmacy. I walked in to see a commotion, Charlie was laying on the ground as Angelica, Josh, Wesley and a few others who I hadn't met yet gathered around him as his life slowly faded away. Josh quickly glanced at me before gesturing at me to go away, Wesley stepped up and took my hand as he led me away from the shop.
"Yo so, he's gonna be fine. They've got it, I'm here to distract you from whatever the hell may be going on up there." Wesley wrapped his arm around my body. "We May have gotten off on the wrong foot, but I'm here." He spoke softer now, a more sincere tone riddled his voice.
"Thanks Wes." I smiled, wiping a tear away.
"It's no problem, I've got a place to show you." He acted enthusiastically.
"Okay, sashay away." I laughed, he let go of my body and seemingly sashayed forward. Taking my hand once again as he finished his dance move.
"Come on girl." Wesley hollered, doing a little jig as he pulled my body through the mall. "Everything will be fine."
"I know, I know." I lied to myself in attempts to take the focus away from my brother.
After trudging through the mall for what felt like hours as I subconsciously thought about Charlie and the gaping hole that was slashed into his stomach, we finally came to a halt. Wesley wrapped a white sock around my eyes and pushed me into a room with a slightly chilly temperature and a sweet smell laced through the air. He unwrapped the sock to reveal an empty room only sparsely decorated with posters and fairy lights. In the middle of the room sat a huge trampoline, thrown onto the trampoline was a huge duvet and a blanket. The boy turned to me with wide eyes and smiles mischievously. "Girl, I gotta bounce." He laughed, dashing toward the trampoline as he threw his body onto the black sheet. His body effortlessly flew through the air as he beckoned me to join him.
I hopped slightly toward the boy and jumped as high as I could, my body landing on Wes. A shriek of pain escaped his mouth before laughter overtook the shock. "Oh are you okay?" I laughed slightly, worrying slightly.
"Yeah I'm fine." He nodded.
After jumping around for hours and establishing a strong bond with Wesley, he slowed down and looked intensely into my eyes, he breathed heavily before speaking. "Sorry if you don't want to talk about this but, who did that to your brother?"
My eyes fixated on him, filling with dread as I flicked through the possibilities but rounding all the answers back to one person... Turbo. I said nothing and gulped in response, Wes breathed a heavy sigh of realisation as he cleared his throat.
"Turbo." He sighed again. But before we could say any more on the matter, Josh walked into the room, his shirt soaked in blood and a tear in his eye. I pushed myself off of the contraption and ran towards him in a curious matter. "How is he???" I spat, placing one of my hands onto his.
"He's okay. Angelica bravely stitched him up with some supplies we found, I performed a blood transfusion and he's now drinking some Gatorade to replenish his body of the lost water and salts." Josh gasped, wiping the beads of sweat from his forehead. "I'm gonna get changed and then I'll take you to him, he's in our hangout with Angelica and Simon looking after him." Josh nodded to me before peering at Wes. "Thanks for taking care of her for me, I'll see you around."
"Yeah, bye guys." Wes smiled, throwing his body onto the cushioned layer of the trampoline.
As we walked out of the empty store, Josh tore his bloodied shirt off and threw it in the trash can. His slightly sun kissed skin glimmered in the light as he walked around the mall in exuding confidence. "My jeans are still wet so I'll need to change them too." He spoke softly, intertwining our hands as we walked.
"Okay that's fine." I smiled. "Thanks for looking after Charlie."
"Anything for you." He smiled, kissing me on the cheek.
"You're a good kid Josh, your dad would be proud." I nodded, acknowledging how much he missed him.
"Thank you, I will do whatever it takes to help the ones I care about and as it turns out, I care about you much more than anyone else right now. I want to make you happy with everything I do because ever since we met, you've brought me nothing but joy." He smiled, pulling me into a tight embrace before running into a store, changing quickly and taking me back to my brother.
