I stood outside the aquarium with mixed emotion. I was both excited and nervous for the day. Everything was in order, and it almost seemed as if it was too perfect. Typically this is the part in the movie where things would go incredibly wrong. But thank god that didn't seem to be the case. Namjoon arrived with Yoongi as schedule, both of them coming out of the car.
"What is this?" Yoongi asked walking towards me. He kissed me and I giggled at his confused state before looking back over to Namjoon.
"Thank you!"
"You're welcome." He smiled. "You got him stumped though."
"Good."
He said his goodbyes and when he drove off Yoongi pulled me into his body. He took my arms making me wrap them around his waist. "What are you up to, babygirl?"
His voice was low and gravely, giving me chills up and down my spine. "An early surprise birthday gift." I smiled kissing his neck. "I hope you like it."
"Well where is it?" he asked. "Or do I get to unwrap you?" He smirked and licked my lower lip teasingly, making me laugh and pull away.
"Come on." I said taking his hand. "You can unwrap me when we get back to your place."
"Not now?" He pouted. "Car sex?"
I laughed. "Yoongi!"
"Alright, alright. I'll be good."
"Good."
We walked in a comfortable silence, and I decided to take a different route to the familiar spot. I didn't want him to catch on. He will eventually, but I wanted to keep him in suspense for every second I could.
Once we turned the corner of the hallway we had been at before, I heard him chuckle. "Babe, what are we doing here?"
"Come on." I laughed.
We finally made it in front of the penguin tank, Yoongi looking at me with raise eye brows. "Why are we here?"
I kept a tight hold on his hand, and the paper in my back pocket was burning to be shown, but I had to warm him up first. "Okay, do you see that?" I pointed.
He looked up and a smile spread across his face immediately. "It's a baby penguin!" he said. "So cute. Is that what you wanted to show me?"
I shook my head. "Look again."
He turned his head and stepped closer, but I stepped to our left pulling him slightly. Next to the baby penguin he saw, was another, baby penguin. "There are two of them!" he said with joy. "That's awesome, I didn't realize they did that."
"Well..." I started. "The institute works a lot with rescued animals. But they don't have a ton of room, and they need funds for every animal that they take in. They almost couldn't house those two."
"How do you know that?"
"I subscribed to their weekly email, and there were rescuers that found the two of them alone, without a mom or dad. They were huddled together under a snow bank. The rescuers were research vets that work here at the aquarium. But they didn't have the funds to keep them."
"So why are they here then?"
I smiled and reached into my back pocket for the adoption paperwork for the two little penguins. I handed it to him and he let go of my hand to look over the document carefully. His eyebrows were together, and then after a moment, his shoulders slumped a little, and his mouth opened just a little.
"I adopted them. Well...we adopted them. I made a generous donation to the aquarium for both of them. At first, I thought they were brothers, but emperor penguins only have one egg at a time. So, they must have found each other when they were separated from their mom and dad, and stuck together for comfort. When I heard that I knew I couldn't let them separate. They are fully funded for 6 years, and if they are still around, I have signed a document stating I will provide 4 more years of funds for their care. I figured that they would be happier here. They can swim, and have a family with the rest of penguins and there is a slide for them to play on, and the caretakers are kind to them."
As I spoke Yoongi only stared at me. I wasn't sure what he was thinking about it. Was he speechless because he was happy, or that it was so lame he didn't know what to say? I swallowed thickly and turned back to the baby penguins in front of us. "We get to name them." I said, making Yoongi look over at them. "You see how they both have purple tags around their ankles?" He nodded and I could feel my heart racing. He really is perfectly kept together, not giving off a single emotion. "The one that has the tiny heart punched into it, that is Koya. He is the one I named. The one who has a tiny star punched in his ankle tag, well, he's yours. You have to give him a name."
He stared at the tiny bird for a moment. And the baby penguin in question, shook his head and then his neck all the way down to his bottom. After a moment, Yoongi finally said something. "RJ." He said making me turn to him. "Koya, and RJ."
I smiled to him, as he still didn't have much emotion on his expression. "I like it."
