Charlie took one step onto Akala Island and immediately smiled. The warm air, the fresh breeze, the smiley locals. It was all so beautiful! Her Solosis, Sooli, gurgled in happiness as they wandered down the streets of Heahea City, a map tightly clutched in her hand.
"We're finally here, Sooli! Akala Island," Charlie breathed with a smile. Her gaze turned to the map in her hand, "okay, Tide Song Hotel. We're at the ferry station, so it should just be down this street and left." Sooli gurgled and bobbed up and down as they began walking down the street.
"Alola!" a young boy greeted cheerfully to Charlie. Charlie giggled and squatted down to his level.
"Alola, young man! That's a gorgeous pokemon you have there," she said nicely, pointing to the Eevee he was hugging in his arms. The blonde boy smiled and hugged the Eevee tighter.
"Thank you!" he said happily. Charlie smiled and stood straight again before waving the boy goodbye and sharply turning left toward the hotel. Charlie smiled at Sooli,
"See? Everyone's so lovely!" she said with a smile. Sooli bobbed up and down in agreement as they pushed through the hotel doors and rung the bell on the desk. The ring stretched out through her mind and gave her a pain in the head. She rubbed it slightly and sighed, her migraines were probably coming back, so she prepared herself for a surge of unbearable pain.
But nothing came, instead, it turned into a wave of brief melody before fading into the back of her head. Charlie scowled and pushed her glasses up her nose slightly in confusion. She pulled a Rotom-recorder out of her pocket.
"Akala Island log day one, I've had a strange half-migraine that sounded oddly soothing, like a song. Perhaps while I'm here I'll figure out what this is and if it's anything to worry about," she recorded and dropped it back into her back pocket. She tapped the bell twice more which finally alerted the workers to come and tend to her.
"Hi, my name is Charlie Commons? I have a reserved room for one plus a pokemon?" she asked with a smile. The hotel tender tapped his computer a few times and smiled.
"Yep, here's your key. You're on the top floor in the First Class suite, room three," he explained as he pulled a key out from under his desk and handed it to Charlie. Charlie smiled with a nod and led Sooli up the stairs to the fifth floor and cracked the door open into her fresh suite. Sooli immediately started playing in the fresh potted plants. Charlie spotted her suitcases by the sleek, white bed and unzipped the hard, black case with 'Fragile' stamped onto it. She smiled, this brought back memories.
She pulled out some papers for some of her old projects and pulled her recorder out.
"Akala Island log, still day one," she said as she pulled out all of her equipment and mounted them onto the large desk provided, "currently unloading my science equipment. Ever since I flew over Alola on my way to the Unova region, I've been fascinated by the energy signals I picked up on Akala Island! I won't let my previous losses get to me ever since I got fired from my last project for being 'too ambitious'."
Sooli gurgled in anger, making Charlie giggle. Even he hated being reminded of the last organisation that had hired her as their scientist. Charlie pulled her heavy energy reader out of the suitcase and hoisted it onto the desk, still talking to her recorder.
"It's not my fault I wanted to make the pokemon we were genetically re-inventing as similar as possible to the original pokemon, but no! Apparently, they were making it just to battle! Tch! Boring!" she hissed and gritted her teeth, Sooli let off a deep gurgle in anger. Charlie sighed and fanned her face to calm herself down, "but this isn't the place to complain. Now that I'm on my own, I can research these extreme energy readings on my own."
Sooli lightened up and gurgled happily. Charlie flicked the recorder off and dropped it onto the desk. She immediately turned it on and started getting some strong readings. Charlie smiled with her brow furrowed and documented the readings.
"There's some powerful energy source around here somewhere," she called out to Sooli and wandered toward the balcony. She pushed through the curtains and looked over the rest of the island. The migraine she had gotten earlier started ringing in her head again- only louder.
"Lele, Lele!" the ringing screamed in her ear. She leaned on the balcony rail and confirmed it in her head, these weren't migraines. She heavily looked upward and saw a blurry pink and black figure, before it flew away, leaving a trail of sparkles in its way.
Charlie dropped to her knees as the pain started fading away, gasping loudly. Sooli came up to her and gurgled as if to ask what was wrong. Charlie looked up,
"Sooli, we've found our readings," she whispered with a determined smile.
