End flashback

"Shisui," she whispered desperately. She spun the ring in her fingers for a moment before she gave in to the fear.

She ran out the door, her destination the Uchiha compound. Y/n ignored the fact that she had no shoes and ran at full speed. She clutched the ring tightly in her hand as she ran. 'No. No. No!' She chanted as she continued barreling towards the gruesome scene. Her feet stung from the cuts, but she kept going.

"Kakashi!" She spotted the silver-haired nin and captured his attention.

Kakashi's eyes widened. He feared the moment she heard the news. He had hoped she would be on a mission still. "Y/n, you shouldn't be here," He was visibly on edge, and Y/n could tell. She was panting, "Where... is... Shisui?" Hands-on her knees, she tried to catch her breath as she cut her eyes upwards.

"Y/n," His tone was severe, "You should go home."

"Itachi?" She ignored his directions.

"Y/n-"She didn't let him continue.

"Where dammit!" She shouted as she stood straight.

The look in her eyes told Kakashi she wasn't going to back down. His heart clenched as he thought about how to deliver the news. Maybe it was best for him to be the one to tell her. She already hated him. Why not add to the hatred. He could handle it.

A heavy frown beneath the mask, he went straight for the gut, "Shisui is dead. They found a suicide note."

*snap* Remember that heart, the one that dipped into darkness all those years ago? After fighting with Kakashi, it fell further. After Asuma left, it sank a little more. After joining the ANBU, it became darker still. Now... it was plunged into the deep. The swirling abyss that her heart sank into would shape my life. Kakashi and her were both shrouded in the same hardened shell. Not wanting to let anyone in.

Falling to her knees, the mud splashed as the rain began to pour. Lightning filled the sky, streaking the darkness in a searing white. The sudden storm raged on the outside while one roared within the young woman.

"Tachi?" She asked desperately.

"He-he killed the clan. He escaped." Kakashi hated himself.

Kakashi watched as Y/n closed her eyes tightly. She titled her head upwards, allowing the rain to wash away the silent tears that streaked her cheeks. She felt electricity dance across her skin. Her clothes became scorched in a few places. The sky seemed to open even further. Rain pouring even harder, a monsoon. The thunder was so loud it was deafening. The lightning was arcing as if it wanted to strike Y/n and Y/n alone.

"Y/n," Kakashi called to her as he walked closer, "You need to calm down." He urged.

Y/n's eyes sprang open as she asked, "Are we even now?" Her voice oozed with disdain.

"What are you talking about?" Kakashi was taken aback by how cold and cruel she sounded. She didn't hesitate, "Is my pain equal to yours now? Are my losses, compared to yours, the same?"

"You're in shock. You have lightning dancing on your skin. You need to breathe." While he knew that her affinity was lightning, he was still unsure how she could even tolerate the feeling.

A blood-curdling scream echoed through the night, piercing even the sound of the clapping thunder. The lightning pulsed around her. Kakashi braved the shock that came with touching Y/n as he approached. He was able to knock her out, rendering her helpless. Kakashi caught her quickly as he scooped her into his arms. He began the walk to the hospital with a solemn feeling in his heart.
