"Hey, Kari, Kanu. I'm going to tell you something super important, alright."
Kari and Kanu, the sisters of the slightly short boy with long, black hair in front of them, both nodded seriously.
"Okay..."
"Well then..." the boy, Kaore, said with a deep breath, "I've paid off the debt!"
The mood quickly reversed from serious to joyous.
"Really, Kaore?" Kanu asked, her eyes widening.
"That's right. I'll have a lot more free time to spend with the two of you from now on, as well as for myself."
"Okay then. How about we introduce you to something super fun!" Kari exclaimed while rubbing her hands together with a wide smile.
"Hmm. Sure, why not? What is it?"
Kaore wondered what they were going to show him. The two sisters quickly got up and went to one of the two rooms they had rented, along with a kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Kaore waited for a little bit until they came back out.
"Here it is," Kanu muttered. She had in her hands weirdly shaped glasses. What is that, Kaore wondered. I don't need glasses.
"You're wondering what it is, aren't you, brother? Well, it's a new gaming system that came out a few days ago, and one of our friends at school got us three pairs. They actually don't cost that much, surprisingly, but we didn't want to ask you for them."
Kari explained what the glasses were.
"It's the gaming system for virtual reality, and it actually links your mind to the game world, so you don't have to worry about crashing into stuff in real life."
"Ooh, that's really cool. Are there any games along with it?" Kaore questioned her.
"Yeah, one came with it in the package by its developers, so we have the game for all three of us. We already started though, so you'll have to play by yourself for a while until you exit your Beginner's Isle."
"Oh, that's too bad. What is the Beginner's Isle?"
"It's where you start off at when you first start, until you're level 10. I'm not going to tell you any more cause it'll spoil the fun," Kanu answered instead.
"Alright. Then how do you start this thing?"
Kaore has a lot of questions. After all, he had never played anything before, so it was all knew to him.
"Well, first let's go to your room so you can lay down."
After the two sisters followed Kaore into his room, he laid down on his old bed.
"Okay," Kari said as she held out the VR glasses to her brother, "Put these on and I'll show you how to start it."
Kaore grabbed it and slid it on as Kari continued talking.
"The game cartridge is already in, you just have to press this button," she told Kaore as she guided his hand to a button on the exterior of the glasses.
"I'm going to start now, then," Kaore said with an excited smile.
He pushed down with his finger. Suddenly, the lens started turning black as his consciousness faded into the virtual world of Lume.
"Oh wait, we never even told him the name of the game." The sisters smiled awkwardly as they went to their room to also log in.
