"Oh! Me and Shiro were talking about our lives back on earth! I didn't know you and Shiro were like brothers!" Lance pouted and he slumped over. "I'm jealous."
"And pretty."
"What?" Lance perked up, raising a brow. Shiro did the same, not expecting that to come from his mouth.
"I said you're pretty. Is that a problem?" Keith said, trying to retain his snicker as Lance's face flushed red.
"Yes! You can't just say that out of no where!"
"Haha, funny," Keith smirked as he felt butterflies swell up in his stomach. Shiro snickered as Lance sent him a playful glare.
"It's not funny!"
"Yeah, and you're not dorky."
"What's wrong with being dorky?!" Lance pointed accusingly, though Keith grabbed his hand and looked him in the eye.
"It's makes you cute~" Keith snickered as Lance stopped. He soaked in his baffled features and his mind started to panic. Did he go too far?
"Nice one Keith," Shiro whispered in his ear and patted his shoulder. He smiled gently as he sent a wink his way, walking off to leave the two standing in the hallway.
"Wha-What's gotten into you?!" Lance said really flustered. Keith frowned and shrugged, anxiousness welling up in his stomach. He thought for a moment before pulling together a teasing smile.
"Payback. For yesterday." Keith flicked his hand as he backed away awkwardly. He finger gunned the blue eyed boy and blinked before running around the corner.
"Oh hey Keith-woah!" Allura jumped out of the way as the boy came to a screeching holt.
"I-uh-sorry! Gotta run!" Keith said quickly before stumbling away with embarrassment.
It felt like forever since he's seen the inside of his room. He closed the doors, sliding down them with heavy panting. He's never ran that fast in his life and he's already been in several life or death situations.
"Breath. Just breath." He slid his hand over his flushed and hot face.
He's never done anything like that before. He just flirted with the biggest flirt he's ever met. Heck he doesn't even know if he likes boys or not, let alone...boys like Keith.
"No no no, don't over think. What's down is done." The mullet haired boy stood up and popped his back. "Should I go to the pool? Nah, I'm tired. I'll go tomorrow. I don't wanna risk running into Lance and getting stuck in the elevator again. Hehe~" he laughed at the memory. Lance had said his eyes were freakishly glowing in the dark. He didn't know then but after meeting the Blade of Marmora he knew he was half Galra so it sort of made sense.
His back tingled at the memory and he decided it was time to go to sleep.
He woke in what seemed like the middle of the night. Or what was considered night on the ship. He got up anyway, stretching out before putting on his slippers. He walked down the hallway to grab a glass of water to hear a strange sound from the cockpit.
He peaked into the room to find Lance. He was hunched over in his green jacket and he was sitting on the tiny steps with his knees drawn. Keith furrowed his brows as he slowly crept up to the boy.
"Hey..." he said lowly, trying to come off gentle as he sat down next to him. Lance went ridged as he quickly wiped away his tears.
"O-Oh uh hey Keith, I uh, didn't know anyone else was up. What time is it?" he said happily. It was almost scary how real it sounded it made Keith Wanna curl up and die.
"It's 2 in the 'morning'," the mullet haired boy said before setting down his water cup. "Why were you crying?"
Lance got defensive; he refused to look him in the eye and made sure there was space between them by scooting over.
"I-It's nothing I'll get over it soon! Promise! I'll...I'll find a way to cope..." Lance whispered that last part but Keith heard it perfectly clear.
He had to think for a moment so he'd do the best he could. Shiro would comfort him back at the Garrison so he decided to give it a try.
"Ya'know, you're lucky you have a family to go back to. My dad died when I was little and I just found out my moms Galra. I use to visit her 'grave' so having found that out I wonder if she's actually dead or not..." 'OKAAY not the best way to go about it but it'll have to do.' He thought.
Keith saw at the corner of his eye Lance's face. He had a look of pity and guilt and he didn't want to see that, so he continued.
"So...having nothing else to lose but my life...I'll make sure you get back home. I'll make sure you see your family again. That's a promise I intend to keep." Keith grabbed his hand with both of his. It felt...nice to feel his warmth without his gloves. A softly smiled at them, before looking up.
Lance's face was in shock. His beautiful blue eyes reflected off the dim lighting and his jaw hung slightly open.
"You...You're not joking...right? Because that pretty messed up if you are," he croaked, a tear falling down his face. Keith wiped it away and scooted closer.
"I'm serious Lance. You can...you can trust me. You always have my back now let me have yours. It's okay to miss your family, but you don't have to worry about them. If they're as strong as you are they'll be fine. And don't carry this alone, that's why you have us. That's why you have me, okay?"
Lance nodded and yanked him into a hug. He buried his face in the crook of his neck and sobbed. Keith gently patted his back, resting his cheek on his shoulder.
"You smell nice. What shampoo do you use, mullet?" Lance muttered, chuckling to himself. Keith shrugged, a small smile gracing his lips. He made Lance feel better and that made his heart really happy.
