Frankie awoke in her bed around the afternoon. The sunlight was streaming through her attic window and Mr. Pebbles was snoring lightly beside her she glanced around the room, hoping to see Lucas but she couldn't feel the vibrations.
The beginnings of a headache urged Frankie to leave the confines of her warm comfortable bed in search of coffee and some painkillers. She always heard her friends talking about hangovers, not really experiencing one herself until now and she made a silent oath to whoever was listening that she would never drink again.
As she made her way downstairs she heard voices lingering from the kitchen and the smell of potions wafted in the air. Praying for silence and hoping to keep the contents of her stomach down, she painfully made her way inside. She rounded the corner, noticing her three best friends sitting around the breakfast bar and she greeted them all with hugs.
"Afternoon Francesca, glad to see you have joined the living." Grandma Claire joked, you have no idea Frankie thought, wincing as a sharp pain bounced around her head. Grandma Claire placed a black coffee and pastry in front of Frankie.
"You look worse for wear dear, did you drink?" Claire asked knowingly, Frankie had come to realise this was a Stellanova look, as she recognised the same face on Edeline last night.
"I didn't drink much! Only a couple." Frankie shook her head yes, immediately regretting it.
Claire went to the pantry, where she stored all her potions she kept for home use and produced a little brown vial. Sniffing the contents before deciding whether it was the right one, she gave it to Frankie.
"Here drink this"
Frankie took the vial opened it and sniffed it, the smell overpowered her, causing her eyes to water. She knew exactly what it was – it was a hangover cure created from natural ingredients and one of their bestsellers. Frankie contemplated not drinking it, to punish herself as a reminder not to drink but she immediately got rid of that thought and plonked the contents of the vial into her coffee and added some almond milk.
Her friends were chatting in the background and she slowly eased her head into her arms, as she let the potion work its magic. Frankie closed her eyes for a few minutes and a flash of a figure in a dark hooded cloak danced across her memory and she bolted up right, something bounced off her chest. Everyone in the kitchen stopped what they were doing and stared at her.
"Are you alright dear?" Grandma Claire asked
"It has been a long time since I've used that stuff on one of us" She whispered the last part.
Frankie laughed nervously, "they know Grandma about the W-I-T-C-H thing, so don't worry I'm fine just something I saw" she lied. Grandma Claire just narrowed her eyes and continued creating more useful bits for the store.
Frankie clutched her neck and felt a necklace – which was strange for Frankie as she hardly wore jewellery. She noticed there was a sort of pendant attached to the chain, and it was the little glass vial containing the grey liquid that Edeline gave her. She quickly pushed it back down her top and left it there. She needed to talk to Grandma Claire alone, she didn't want to involve her friends in what she saw as yet.
She tuned into their conversation half listening, not wanting to think about the vial and what its contents did - whilst eating her pastry. She was starving since the party, and she really did love custard tarts. They were talking about the party and what happened. From what she heard, Frankie found that Rose and Luke had spent the whole night and morning together after the party – but Rose was adamant that nothing saucy happened. Callum and Priya shared their first kiss and Celeste took the title of Beer pong Queen. They also mentioned no one could stop talking about what happened with all the lights and the music, it felt like they had been at a live music festival and that's all everyone was talking about. They didn't ask if it was Frankie, but they all knew.
