Murder mystery au

---

Another person had been killed within 24 hours of the last victim.

You gave out a heavy sigh, flipping away at the envelopes and newspapers that had laid on a familiar wooden desk. It had been bombarded with books and paper, the obsidian ink of the pen had been written with every possible clue you could muster over the last events. With the difficulty of having zero to no evidence of the suspect, the thought of solving a murder case was thought to be unsolvable. But that only fueled your stubbornness to apprehend the man on a rampage. Within the past months, about twelve unsolved cases had littered your little apartment across the street from the studio, every news article and other notes revolving around the killings were pinned on walls, stacked on cases, and folded in messy arrays. It had seemed like your job never had a break.

But serial killers don't take breaks, at least, not when people have already started looking for them.

It had rained a few hours prior to your entrance to the department, the soft patters of water had echoed through the small studio. You had looked disheveled, coat wet and boots most likely drowned in rain. Hair was a bit wet, and as much as bringing an umbrella would've left the burden of drying the coat and fixing the folders that had almost gotten wet, you had just lived across the street and thought that needing an umbrella for small trickles of rain wouldn't do much harm. However, as seen, it had started to get more intense as the hours come and go. Your first mistake.

The rain from outside had cut through all silence, and the only thing else that had made noise was the taps of heels and flipping paper. A deep sigh escaped past your plump but rosy lips, but the hum of a familiar Recluse had only blocked the noise. He entered the studio, umbrella in hand. Unlike your reckless self, your partner was there to solve crimes without making a ruckus- and perhaps to tame the unhinged detective such as yourself. There wouldn't be a time where he would only leave you to solve on your own, but perhaps that was the reason the head of department had forced you to partner up the man who was known as Eli Clark. But it also may have been the fact that you were completely incapable of stopping once you had had enough evidence to keep going. Like a machine, you would continue to work and work without end. Until you would pass out however, the apartment you were currently living in, was but the second choice to sleep in. Aside from the bed, passing out in the studio was quite nice.

The clock had just turned seven, and even with an early morning shift, sunless skies pulled clouds of rain. The brunette had sat at the opposite side of the desk, sitting on the same type of chair. "Let me guess, didn't bring an umbrella?" He smirked, and even with bandages wrapped around his eyes, his vision was perfectly perfect.

You scoffed, chin resting onto of your hand. "Perhaps. Does it look like I swam here?" Sarcastically, your eyes refused to divert away from the semi-wet papers, ink just barely an inch away from existing splotches of water. Readable, yes, but now the sides were soggy.

"No, not exactly, more like you had taken the sewers just to get to the other side of the street."

This man...

You heard him chuckle, and even with a evident annoyance displayed on your face, it was clear that he had fun teasing. Your cheeks had already bled beat red, but refusing to point it out, Eli leaned back on his chair. He had changed his attention towards the envelopes that laid on the desk, and skimming through a couple pictures of the victim from the previous case, his vibrant demeanor rapidly changed. With the heavy aura surrounding the idea of another innocent person being killed cold blooded, it wasn't a surprise to see that the seer had pushed aside any funny business. He had kept tabs on any suspicious people while he had been walking to the studio, and the amount of wandering people were a bit on the less side considering it had been less than an hour when normal morning routine would occur.
