It's been a few weeks after they had traveled to see Revali and fix Vah Medoh. Daruk has sent note that he was having a hard time piloting Vah Rudania. Zelda had decided to travel there and help him. Link was looking forward to this. He liked riding Epona and riding with Zelda. Although they hadn't talked and had only seen each other at the table for meals and around the castle it was nice to get a ride together. At some point he knew he would have to talk to her. She has become a bit more talkative on these trips which he enjoyed hearing her voice. It was kind of soothing. He also was looking forward to seeing Daruk. He liked Daruk he was kind and quite funny now that Link thought if it.
Link and Zelda were now walking while guiding the horses forward. Zelda was ahead and she had the Sheikah Slate in hand. "From here we'll make our way to Goron City. Then we'll need to make some adjustments on that Divine Beast so Daruk can manage it as easily as possible. He's figured out how to get it to move...however it is apparent that we still have much more to learn." Zelda was mostly rambling and talking to herself but Link was listening. He found it fascinating the interest she took in these ancient machines. She knew so much. "But to think that Divine Beast was actually built by people...that means that we should be able to understand how it works and how to use it to our advantage. These Divine Beasts...so much we don't know. But if we want to turn back Calamity Ganon then it's our best hope." Zelda had slowed to a stop and Link was somewhat confused as to why she stopped. Zelda turned to face Link. She had a serious face on and her tone had changed to more of an angry and jealous tone. "Tell me the truth...how proficient are you right now wielding that sword on your back? Legend says that an ascend voice resonates inside it. Can you hear it yet...Hero?" Zelda then hopped on her horse and told it to go a fast pace. Link stood for a second trying to understand what had happened. Zelda looked back to make sure he was behind her. He hopped on his horse and caught up but decided not to ride next to her but instead behind her this time.
They arrived at Foothill Stable to settle in for the night. This time Zelda's nightgown was a pale purple with the same lace and Triforce patch. This one was shorter, it didn't reach just below her ankles. This time it fell just below her knees. Link usually slept without a shirt but he couldn't do that here so he just wore an old shirt and new trousers...again. Zelda just looked at him and went to bed that night. Both couldn't stop thinking about each other and finally Zelda had fallen asleep as did Link.
It was bright and early and Zelda was already up. She had put on a flame resistant gear. It was similar to her travel cloths but this time it had a hood and a high low skirt. The belt was skinnier with a broach on it. Links flame guard was right from Goron City. They had to leave their horses or else it would have gotten too hot for them. Link and Zelda walked a ways till they arrived at Goron City. It was quite late so they just decided to stay at the Inn and rest. They repeated what they did the night before except no thoughts clouded their minds.
Link and Zelda walked to meet up with Daruk who had greeted them with a loud booming greeting. Zelda was smiling that same gleaming smile and was happy as can be. How can she be so mad and then be happy? Link thought to himself. He smiled and shook the big Gorons hand. "Ok tiny princess lets get you up there and check it out." Daruk stared at link before continuing "and you can come too!" Zelda stared at Link with a little disbelief. Link thought she may have intended to go alone but Daruk insisted both come up. Zelda had her same notes hugged tightly except her smile was gone now. She only put it on when Daruk was looking.
Zelda was inside working on the beast while Link and Daruk were standing on a ledge. "Yeah! I think I'm finally getting the hang of controlling this Divine Beast! I tell you what...sure is a blast piloting a toy like this around. Let those other champions know they better eat the gravel is they wanna keep up with Daruk. Speaking of which can you believe this view?" Daruk was smiling pointing to all the mountains. Link was smiling he liked the calmness and Daruk. He was a nice guy to talk too. "Just look at all those delectable rocks sprinkled on those mountains...mighty tasty. I may not know a whole lot about this Calamity Ganon thing...but mark my words I'll protect this land of ours to the death! Right little guy?!" Daruk had forgotten how big he was and had patted Link a bit to hard. Link had lost his balance and coughed. Daruk chuckled and Link smiled at the accident. Daruk awkwardly scratched his head getting ready for what he was going to say next. "Hey by the way...congrats on becoming the princess's appointed night. That's a really big deal! Protecting the Kings daughter...no pressure! Seriously though the princess is a strong personality-so strong she can't quite see the range for the peaks remember that and you'll be fine." Under them the ground started to shake. Daruk looked up the mountain into see Rocks falling twords them. "What the?!" Daruk put up a protective guard to block them. "All right what was I saying..." Daruk scratched his head and looked out over the mountains. "That was a little strange...as far as I know death mountain has been quiet for decades. But if the mountain is shivering enough to send down a bunch of boulders that size then...never mind forget I said anything." Link was wondering what he was saying but his thoughts were cut off by the princess running out to them. She was started by the rocking but luckily had finished in time. "Let's get going now, it seems I have finished and the controls should be much easier." She didn't give one glance to Link.
They pair got changed and went to bed. Zelda had lost her happiness. Usually she liked working on Divine Beasts. She hadn't said one word to him all day. The pair went to bed and was ready to get up early and make the walk back to their horses. Link just wanted to isolate himself in his room.
