Y/N's POV
I stood infront of Zim's house. "It's been 20 minutes." I mumbled to myself. As I was about to leave, the door slammed open. "Y/N-Hooman!" Zim gasped. He sighed. "I'm glad you waited. I have to ask you something!" He ran over to me.
"What is it Zim?" I asked. He hopped next to me, grabbing my hand. I thought I heard a loud yell from inside his house but I ignored it. He dragged me along. "Y/N-Hooman, define love." He demanded softly. I slowed to his walking pace, setting myself next to him as we walked. "Well Zim.." I started. "It's a strong feeling of affection you have towards a person. You want to be with them, you don't want to hurt them." You explained. "And when you find love, there's a chance you've found your soulmate." His grip tightened. "What's that?" He asked. "A soulmate is someone who was meant to be with you." You told him. "Thank you Y/N-Hooman." We walked silently for a bit, ignoring the fact we were holding hands.
"Y/N." He looked up at me with big eyes. I was a bit taken aback at the fact he called me by only my first name, but I listened. "Have you ever felt love?" He asked. "Um.." I started. "No Zim, no I haven't." He nodded. "Well then. Since you saved Zim the previous day, Zim shall help you with your newfound quest!" I stuttered. "I-It doesn't really work like that.." He shook his head. "Nonsense! I shall help you, Y/N-Hooman!" I smiled, knowing I couldn't stop him.
We were halfway at Skool. Usually many kids travel along this route. I released his hand. He looked up at me with a small disappointment in his eyes. "Zim, it'll look odd people see us holding hands." I explained. "How?" He asked. "Well, usually only people in relationships hold hands." I explained to the shorter boy. "Relationships? Does this tie to the love thing?" His eyes were curious. I nodded, confirming his question. "Ohh." He looked straight ahead. "Who cares what they think?" He said abruptly. "Um, well-" I started. "I need your protecting, Y/N! And not a filthy, human worm shall stop us!" He announced. I was surprised by his boldness, but I was even more surprised at him grabbing my hand and running.
