31. Rescue?

   The man jolted backward as the door opened, revealing a girl.

   I narrowed my eyes as the man grabbed her, and I instantly put my gun up again. I aimed quickly and shot the guy in the leg.

   The girl, whose identity was still unknown due to the darkness, looked over to where I was and started to sprint towards me.

   I put my gun up again and almost pulled the trigger when the girl suddenly spoke.

   "Aspen! It's me! Y/N!"

   "Y/N!" I exclaimed, helping her get through the open window.

   She looked at me with fearful eyes. "We have to hurry. Or she'll-"

   "YOU BITCH!"

   Y/N Closed her eyes tightly and grabbed my arm, pulling me away from the warehouse.

   I looked back at the building and saw another girl holding her bloodied side. "Who is that-"

   "Kriss," Y/N said quickly, looking back at me. "I stabbed her."

   I nodded and beckoned to the guards. "Markson! Avery! Smith! Arrest those two people inside the building. There is a high chance they're the ones in charge of all of this!" 

   The three officers nodded and lifted their guns, running back into the building. 

   Y/N tripped over a loose wire and fell, making me curse as I saw her ankle twist.

   I scooped her up and began sprinting again. "Look," I said, "we're gonna have to treat that ankle before we get back to the palace. You can't run the whole way back to the cars, and I don't think I can carry you and protect you at the same time."

   Y/N nodded and winced as I jumped over a box. 

   "Sorry," I said, making my way towards the Threes in Carolina. "Thankfully, we both know someone near here."

Y/N's POV

   "Thank you for doing this, America," I said softly, scrunching my nose as she wrapped my ankle.

   Her red hair glistened in the light, and she smiled softly at me. "Of course, Y/N. It's no problem. I wasn't expecting Kriss to do all that, though," she said softly. "She seemed like a goody-two-shoes to me."

   I sighed. "Well, she definitely played the part," I mumbled, looking outside to where Aspen was.

   "When are you gonna go back? Are the cars coming here or are they still at the gates?" America asked.

   I shrugged. "I'm not sure. Aspen didn't say anything. Thanks," I said as America finished up.

   America looked up at me. "You know, for someone who was almost killed a few hours ago, you seem pretty calm."

   I sighed. "I guess I'm just... shocked. I mean, one day you're talking with someone and the next thing you know, they're holding a gun against your head. You know?" I said, not really knowing what I was saying.

   America blinked. "No, I don't know."

   I gave America a bored look and rolled my eyes. I then burst out into laughter, her joining me instantly.

   "I really missed you," I told the red-head, smiling. "I wish you could've stayed."

   America laughed. "I'm honestly glad I didn't." 

   She looked longingly towards the door, and I cocked my head to the side in curiosity.

   "I probably would've been killed," she said softly.

   "What? Why?" I asked, looking out the window towards Aspen.

   America sighed, looking like a lovestruck school girl. "Because of him. I never really wanted to join the Selection because of Aspen," she explained, making me freeze.

   "Aw, are you two dating?" I asked excitedly.

   America smiled. "We have been for a while. We had a fight before the Selection, but we're good now. Anyways, how are you and-"

   "Y/N! We have to go!"

   Aspen rushed in and gave a quick kiss to America before lifting me up. "The car's here."

   I said a quick goodbye to America and yelped when Aspen dropped me in the car.

   "Sorry."

   Aspen got in next to me and instructed the driver to start driving, making me jolt back into my seat. 

   "You're safe now, Miss."

1154 words! I... absolutely dislike this chapter. I feel like it was wayyyy too rushed...? I guess? I don't know... It's just so... non-action-packed which makes me very disappointed. Oh well... Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well and that everyone is safe. We will get through this crisis together!! We're all in this together~ Okay I'll stop now hehe.
