"You're very pretty."

Taylor's ears began to heat up, and she ducked her gaze. Lucas was still looking at her. They were leaning against the back of his car, watching as the sunset slowly got dimmer and dimmer. The orange light was lighting the snow-covered field on fire and spreading across the endless horizon.

"Thank you," Taylor responded, keeping her gaze on her running shoes. She tugged at the sleeves of her jacket, pulling them down to cover her hands. It was a brief and useless attempt to ward off the chill of the wind that was sending her hair dancing about. She could feel her ears turning pink of embarrassment.

Lucas let out a soft, quiet chuckle. "Come on, you're going to freeze, let's get going."

Taylor glanced over at him. He was wearing a jacket and jeans, yet the dwindling sunlight made his hair look ginger, instead of the pale blond it was. He made his way to the driver's seat and hopped in. Taylor paused for only one moment, glancing once more at the sunset, and calming down her speeding heart rate, before opening the passenger side door and getting in.

"This was fun," She commented as they turned, heading back into town.

Lucas nodded his agreement. "It was. I think we should do that again."

Taylor suppressed a smile at the words. He wanted to do it again. She had to tell Clara and Aubrey what he had said.

They drove in comfortable silence. There was some trashy pop music from a station out of Fort Mcmurray playing softly through the speakers. When they finally got back into town, the sun had vanished, and dark shadows spread amongst all the streets, warded off only by street lamps.

"I heard about the game. It's too bad that they lost. I was hoping that they'd beat Fort Qui. There are some real assholes on that team."

Taylor blinked in surprise at his words. "Yeah, it's too bad. They were ready too, and Fort Qui demolished them. It's really awful."

Lucas turned the corner onto her street. "That must look pretty awful on Nasir."

Taylor nodded. "Have you met him?"

Lucas shook his head. "No, I haven't seen him before."

"I think you'd get along well," Taylor hummed. "Besides the whole hockey thing."

Lucas chuckled, shaking his head slightly as he pulled into her driveway and they both got out of the car. He walked her up to the door, and paused on the wooden porch.

"I know I haven't officially asked you, but will you be my girlfriend?"

Taylor had to prevent herself from making a surprised squeak. She blinked for a second, then responded. "Of course."

Lucas beamed and shoved his hands in his pocket, thinking something through. He hesitated, only for a second, and then leaned forward, quickly kissing her on the cheek.

Taylor's face felt like it was on fire, and Lucas smiled at her shocked expression. "I'll see you tomorrow."

Before she could say anything, he darted down the driveway and back into his car. Taylor waved good-bye, before pushing open the door and vanishing inside.

She pushed off her shoes and glanced at her mom and dad, who were sitting on opposite sides of the couch, watching some movie.

Her dad turned, his curly hair falling in her face. "How was the date?"

"It was good," She responded. "I'm going to go upstairs. Love you."

"Night sweetheart." Her mom said and Taylor turned, taking the stairs up to her bedroom. Taylor pushed open the door, flopping on her indigo bedspread. She tugged her phone out of her purse and typed out a quick message to their group chat.
