Taylor gave him a blank look. "To be honest, I never really paid attention to you guys at games until now."
"Weren't you at like every game?" Nasir blinked in surprise as Taylor gave him a confused expression. He hurried on, explaining. "Jacob would point you out every time."
"My parents made me go," Taylor said. "To be honest, I spent more time playing on my phone and sneaking out to talk to Clara than anything else."
Nasir chuckled. "Fair enough," He took a drink of his tea before continuing. "But seriously, just tell him that we are trying that motion again, and I can come up with something completely different to do."
Taylor hummed in response. "You don't actually think this will work, do you?"
"Have a little bit of hope," Nasir smiled. "If it does work, I won't look like a complete failure of a captain, and you won't have to deal with a bunch of disappointed, violent teenage boys."
Taylor shoved her hair away from her face. "Okay, deal."
Her phone lit up on the table, the obnoxious theme tune to her brother's favourite tv show lighting up the screen. Nasir let out a laugh. "That's your ringtone for Jacob?"
Taylor nodded. "It's his favourite show."
She scooped up her phone, pressed the answer button and held it to her ear. "Hello?"
"We are here. Coach says you've got five minutes or he's leaving without you again."
"Fine, we're coming, and tell Uncle I'm telling Mom." Taylor hung up, shoving her phone into her pocket and picking up her bag with the vase inside. "They are here."
They both stood and Taylor grabbed her coffee, walking with Nasir out of the small establishment and out into the chilled air, which made her wince and pull her free hand inside her coat.
They were approaching the bus, when Nasir grabbed her arm, turning her back to face him. "Wait."
Taylor could feel the curious gazes of the boys on the bus burning into her back. "What? It's chilly."
"Don't tell them anything. I don't want them to get excited and accidentally ruin it."
Taylor nodded. "Can we get on the bus now?"
Nasir obliged and let go of her arm. She walked forward on to the bus and ignored all the amused faces watching her. Without saying anything, as Nasir had advised, she sat down. Nasir paused beside her seat, before he let a short chuckle, staring back at the bus.
"Oh, fuck off."
The bus erupted into laughter, and Taylor grinned, watching as Nasir erased the tension with one sentence. Coach shook his head in bemusement and pulled away from the mall, heading back onto the highway.
Nasir sat down in the seat right in front of her, and she blinked in surprise. She hadn't expected him to sit right there, instead of thinking he would have returned to sit with Jacob and Jamie at the back of the bus.
~~~
They were about a fifteen minutes away from Camp Caroline when Isaac finally looked over at Taylor and Nasir and asked.
"Did you actually get stuck in an elevator? Or was that just a story to get Jacob to fuck off?"
Taylor shook her head. "No, we were actually trapped in the elevator, and if you don't believe me, you can google it. They got firefighters there to get us out."
Nolan let out a disbelieving laugh. "That's hilarious. I can't believe that happened to you two of anyone in the group."
Nasir was leaning on the edge of his seat, watching the three of them interact. He had pulled off his toque, and his eyes kept flicking in between the three of them.
