Lauren~

"This is event number 33, women's 400 meter IM." I began to tune out the background noise to listen to my music. I stand at lane 6 from behind the blocks watching the swimmers while stretching to warm up a bit.

Saying I am nervous is an understatement, it didn't hit me that I made it this far until I put on my tech suit in the locker room. Took damn near 30 minutes to put on since it's supposed to be two sizes smaller than it needs to be.

I take off my warm up parka and take deep breaths to calm myself down. I cap myself and tighten up my googles. This is my last race of the day as well as the last race of my high school career.

"You got this dude. Try and beat me this time, okay?" Hailey and Beverly walk past me tapping my shoulder gently.

"Good luck guys." I say with a smile.

"You too." Beverly says to me with a genuine smile on her face. They both leave me going to their own lanes that are further down.

We were all in heat 3, the subsection on our event. I honestly didn't think that I would ever be ready for this. I have been training for years but never expected to make it this far.

After the girls ahead of me in heat two are half way done, I put my phone in my parka and put on my goggles. Myself and the others in heat three step up to the block when the ref blows the whistle for the second time.

It's just a two hundred free.

"Swimmer's take your mark." I bend down gripping on the edge of the block tightly.

Only two one hundreds.

BEEP!

I dive into the water making sure I was in streamline, swimming the first few strokes without breathing.

Just eight laps.

Just eight laps.

Once I reach the wall I do my flip turn with all the energy I can.

Seven.

This is the part when I start singing songs in my head. I love the sport, but it's all mental. Even if I don't win, it's all about finishing and how I finish.

Or at least that's what pintrest says.

I take my second to last flip turn and swim as hard as I can. I block out all of my thoughts hoping to be able to focus more on the goal and take my last turn. I sprint with the last of my energy I have left not taking a single breath. I pass the second set of flags, only 10 meters to go. I practically slam into the wall touching the key pad.

I shake hands with the girls in the lanes next to before looking at the score board.

Third. Not too shabby.

I somehow gain the energy to pull myself out of the water and grab my things so that I can go to the locker room. I have never wanted my bed so badly. I didn't see Camden today since he is competing tomorrow and is getting in his last practice after school today.

I hug my mom when I see her in the lobby waiting for me. She smiles at me widely making me smile as well. "You did so great! Let's get you a shower though, you stink." She says jokingly. "Are you still going to the pool tonight."

"Yeah, I just wanted to talk to you before I left."

"Okay, I'll see you at home then." My mom hugs me one last time before I drive to the pool.

I make my way inside the pool of the rec center the team practices in and see Camden looking for an empty lane. "Hey," I say from behind him and he turns to look at me.

"You made it, I thought you would be too tired." Camden replies happily and puts down his water bottle.

"How could I possibly say no to being your coach for the day. I get to whip your ass in shape." I smile and pinch his ass. He shakes his head with a smile.

"Look at you being all kinky in public."

I roll my eyes in response before pushing him in the pool. He resurfaces and splashes water at me. "Go ahead and warm up. I'll create your set for today."

"You're hot when you're bossy."

"Shut up." I laugh a bit and watch him start his warm up.

I like watching him swim, he makes it look so easy while I probably look like a freak show in the water. Since his parents reserved the pool just for him today, I pulled out my speakers and grabbed a giant white board from the storage closet.

He stops at the wall to drink some water with his warm up being half way done. "Alright babe, what are you swimming in tomorrow?"

Once he tells me, we get to work on his technique.

~~~
"Whew you wore me out." Camden says dropping his bags down at the front door. He sits down and leans back into the bar stool at the island. I wash my hands before pulling out a pot and a pan to make us dinner.
"I bet," I wink at him and start filling up the pot with water. On the way home from the pool, Camden kept begging that I made him and I pasta for dinner. I turn on the stove to boil the water and season some chicken for chicken alfredo. My spoiled boyfriend insisted on it.
"Your mom told me that you committed to Wellington today." He said breaking the comfortable silence.
"Yeah, seems like the best choice for me. Did you decide on a school yet?" I ask him.
"Well I'm leaning towards University of Virginia? It's not that far from where you'd be and their swim and baseball program is amazing."
"As long as I get to borrow a hoodie."
"Another hoodie that you're going to steal," Camden shakes his head at me with a disapproving look.
"Steal is a pretty strong word." I respond before draining the pasta. I add in both the pasta and broccoli to the pot with the chicken. I place a bowl of pasta in front of him with water bottle.
"As long as you make a monthly visit I don't mind." Camden saying reaching up to peck my lips.
