So, I was thinking about what I was going to do for this scenario since I didn't get much to work with (which is fine!) and I like adding quotes and so this sort of high school AU came about.

I hope you enjoy nonetheless!

"It's like I want you to look at me.
But I turn my head every time you do."

There was a boy that sat at the back of all the classes you were in with him, he always kept his head down and he never sought any sort of trouble. But, trouble usually sought him out. Some days he would come to school with new bruises or a black eye caused by the bullies that stalked him.

The class had nicknamed him 'Shy Guy' because most everyone didn't know his real name and he never talked to anybody. He was always picked last for school teams, sat alone at lunch and he always had to do school projects alone because no one would have him.

You felt bad for the Shy Guy, but what could you do? You didn't want the bullies to target you, it was natural selection. Eat, or be eaten. And so you kept as quiet as the Shy Guy, kept your head down, and ignored what was happening to him.

But you were miserable and so overcome with guilt for the Shy Guy, each and every time he came into class with a new bruise or a split lip and his eyes just a little bit deader then before. And gaining the courage one lunch time, ignoring the stares and open gawking, you marched- albeit a bit timidly and hesitantly- over to the Shy Guy's table and softly as to not startle the boy asked, "May I sit here?"

Four simple words.

The Shy Guy did nothing so that technically wasn't a 'no', and you sat across from him and watched him quietly eat for a moment. You began speaking what was on your mind, just to fill the awkward silence around you.

It was nice- you didn't feel like you would be criticized, it sort of felt like you were talking to yourself and that was alright. It was liberating. So, in a weeks time, you sat with him again.

And then you sat with him sooner until you were sitting with him everyday. You hung out with your friends, you didn't ignore them whatsoever, but lunchtime was for you and the Shy Guy.

"[Name]?" Doc- you and your group called him as such because all he ever talked about was his dream to become a doctor- spoke up one day on the way to lunch with clear curiosity lacing his smooth voice.

Sock- you called him as such as he was a complete drama queen and it was an inside joke plus, it rhymes with Doc and they, no matter what they may say, were so gay for each other and yet they couldn't tell and it infuriated you sometimes... anyway- looked over in confusion.

"Hm?" You asked distractedly, thinking about Shy Guy and wondering if he would answer you when you asked how he was. You got to the point to where he would shrug and that was about it.

But sometimes, in class, you caught him looking at you and that made you smile.

"Would you mind if I asked you something?" Ever there gentleman, he and Cain were while Sock and Able were loud, typically vulgar and basically the lovable dumbasses of the group.

"Huh? Oh, no, go ahead." You replied after blinking out of your thoughts, you smiled over at the curly haired boy.

"Well, and not to be rude, but-"
