"How'd you do on the winter final project?"
"Aced it," I smiled.
"Me too!" Amber grinned and gave me a high five. "All right, am I going to see you at the awards?"
"You know it," I said.
Amber waved as she walked into Mr. Hall's classroom. Arriving at Ms. Evans's class, I saw her standing outside, smiling at students. When she saw me, her smile got wider.
"Afternoon, Jackie," she said.
"Afternoon, Ms. Evans."
Once the bell rang, I looked up from my desk. "Before we get started with the lesson, I have a few papers to hand out to people. If I call your name, please come up and grab them," she said.
"What are they?" Lucy asked.
"I think they're academic award sheets. They're at 2:30 PM today in the theatre. There will be an announcement for everyone who got a slip to go down to the awards. Now, if I call your name, please come up and grab your slips. James, Cameron, Lucy, McKailey, Renee, Winston, Naomi, and Jackie."
I grabbed my slip and opened it reading the black writing on gold paper.
"Congrats, now, let's get started with the lesson for today. Looking at your packets, we'll start with a review from the last class like always," Ms. Evans said as she began writing on the board.
When class ended, I began packing up my things as the bell rang.
"Have a good day, everyone," Ms. Evans said. Once the door shut, she moved her eyes over to me and smiled widely.
"What?" I asked.
"I just wanted to look at you," Charlotte said.
"Awe isn't that sweet, Ms. Evans," I said.
I watch her eyes move down to look at the paper on my desk, "Congrats."
"Thanks. I've gotten it before, so not much to celebrate."
"Are you kidding? It shows how much of an excellent student you are," Charlotte said. I smiled and lowered my head, feeling myself blush. "Are your parents coming? Or are they working?"
"They said they took the day off to come and watch. They do it every time, as much as I tell them they don't need to. It's been like this since the beginning of my junior year."
"They're proud of you," Charlotte said.
"It definitely shows." I played with the gold paper in my hand.
I heard footsteps walking over to me, and I looked up. Charlotte is standing in front of me, with a warm smile across her lips.
She took the gold paper from my hands and replaced it with her own. Her thumbs rubbed my skin before bringing the hands up to her lips for a peck.
"You know, I'm proud of you too, right?" she mentioned.
I grinned and nodded, "Of course, it shows on your face too, just like my parents. You three can't hide your happiness," I said.
I leaned in and kissed her. Charlotte went back to lesson planning while I sat sketching ideas for a newly assigned project.
The time passed quicker than I imagined, and it was already 2:20 PM when I looked up at the clock.
"You should head to the theatre now, don't want to be late," Charlotte said.
"Right."
"You can leave your stuff in here," Charlotte mentioned as she grabbed her keys.
