Gross, she thought as she heard the squelch but she couldn't be bothered to get up.
After a while of just sitting down and scrolling through her phone, (Y/N) heard a soft tinkle again and raised her head to get a good look at who walked in through the doors.
It was none other than her half-red, half-white haired classmate. She was excited to show him her new power but then she took a good look at his face.
He seemed to be in a bad mood and she couldn't exactly pinpoint it but his expression was full of annoyance and a tinge of what looked like sadness.
(Y/N) decided to keep her mouth shut.
Without browsing around the shop, he walked over to the counter and took out his phone. He only walked through her doors twice but she noticed that he was always prepared before entering the store.
"(L/N)," he greeted to which she replied back with a nod. "Can I have four bouquets?"
"Of course, do you know what kind of flower arrangements? Or would you like to browse."
She knew that he wouldn't pick the second option. He seemed like the type who would think that browsing would waste his time.
"I have the flowers right here," he replied as he gestured to his phone, "So for three of them, can you use crimson roses, gladiolus, lavenders, lilacs, pansies, and white roses? Arrange them in a way that makes it look pleasant."
"Alright," she replied as she jotted down his order. The flower combinations were a bit strange but some of the flowers allowed for different colors so she could make do.
The symbolism of the flowers didn't escape her either. The crimson rose was either love or sorrow, the white rose symbolized sympathy, pansy was used for sincerity and thoughtfulness while lavender was associated with admiration and lilac meant tranquility.
She never exactly educated herself on the symbolism behind gladiolus so she didn't know what the flower was used for or how it fit in with the theme, whatever this theme was.
"For the last one, use all of the flowers above and add these two: yellow roses and hydrangeas."
(Y/N) noted it down and recalled the symbolism of those two flowers. Yellow rose was for friendship and gratitude and hydrangea stood for honesty, gratitude, making amends, and understanding. I can't piece it all together, she thought as she tried to work out the meaning.
"What color would you like the ribbon to be?"
"Periwinkle."
(Y/N) scrunched her nose at the mention of that color. Her mother used to love it but she absolutely hated the color. "It's not blue but it's not purple either!" She used to say, expressing her disgust at the weird color.
It's such a weird name too, she thought as she recalled a silly memory of the time she fought with her mother over the name of the color.
"What's the occasion?" She asked her classmate as she wrote down the name.
"(L/N), I believe I've told you this before but I'll say it again. It's none of your business," he responded curtly and it surprised her just how cold his voice was, "Just because we're classmates doesn't mean that I have to share."
"Right."
The rude attitude left a foul taste in her mouth and she tried to control her expression as she informed him of when to pick up the order. His response made the atmosphere awkward and the silence was suffocating.
When he finally left, she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Is he always this rude?" Chiba asked from around the corner, "I was just hiding because I didn't want to interrupt but it's surprising how rude he is."
"I thought that we were on okay terms but it's like he's hot and then he's cold," she replied, shaking her head, "Literally."
"Kids, man. He's also the one that broke my locket, right? Little shit."
"How's it coming along?" (Y/N) asked him after a while.
He looked confused at first but then he realized what she was talking about. "It's going well," he replied softly, "We'll be able to hold it by the date that we put on the invitation. An arm was missing but it turns out someone just misplaced it."
The extra information made her wince; she didn't want to imagine that.
"I really did want to help," she said.
"I know."
It was true. She wanted to be a part of the preparation for the funeral but it was too much for her to handle. She tried to be strong but seeing their mangled corpses broke her. By the end of the first night, she was crying and throwing up at the same time and it was decided that staying away was the best option for her.
She shuddered at the memory and pulled out her phone to distract herself. She then thought of Todoroki's flowers.
She searched for the symbolism of gladiolus and found out that it symbolized remembrance and honor.
That's a nice meaning, she thought as she took a screenshot of that page.
She wanted one more type of flower in the bouquet honoring her parents who had their life taken from them cruelly and this was the perfect option.
Remembrance and honor.
