For the second time in the short span of a week, Levi found himself cradling an exhausted Akira Jaeger surrounded by Erwin's precious army. Anger and annoyance flowed through his veins as he pulled her closer and made a tsk-ing sound. "What are you idiots doing, huh? Go search for injured survivors or some shit. And find the brat!"
No one dared argue with the pissed off captain who had turned his attention back to the eldest Jaeger who had begun to stir.
Finally she opened her eyes. Her normally bright green eyes seemed to be a duller grey and despite the fact that she wasn't blind, it still appeared like she was staring off into some deep dark void. Red markings framed her face. "I lost control, didn't I? How many..."
Levi cut her off, his thumb absentmindedly whipping her tears. "Don't think about that. This was Erwin's plan, not yours."
It was silent for a moment before either of them spoke again. "You know, Levi, I don't have to be injured for you to hold me like this." A teasing smile graced her face, even if it did feel slightly forced.
He smirked slightly and let out an amused scoff. "It's the only way I can make sure you won't push me away."
Akira laughed weakly in response as her eyes seemed to fully focus. "Where's Eren?"
Levi scowled. "No clue. I sent people out to find him."
She attempted to sit up only to be pulled closer to Levi. "He's MIA?"
"Tsk, I'm sure he's fine. He was number five out of his class, remember?"
She let out a shaky breath. "I know. It's just after our parents died...I basically raised him. He's my responsibility. What about Annie?"
He gestured to the crystal and anger built up inside her. "I shouldn't have hesitated."
"If you hadn't hesitated, you would've eaten her. At least this way we have a chance." Despite Levi's words, neither of them seemed all that convinced.
A young solider stumbled up to them. "We found him sir."
Akira forced herself to sit up, her 'war face' back in place. "Take me to him."
Levi looked as if he were going to object, but when she glanced at him his expression softened. Despite his better judgment, he helped her move across the ruins of the city.
Akira practically collapsed at the sight of her brother. She would have if it hadn't been for Levi holding her upright. The only signal that he was alive was the trail of smoke in the air. Otherwise he looked dead.
The Captain's grip on her tightened as he moved so he was in front of her, blocking her view. "He'll be fine. See, he's already healing."
She shook her head in a shocked disbelief. "I failed him."
Levi's grey eyes hardened. He couldn't explain it, but he found himself actually affected by her simple statement. "Tsk, don't be an idiot. He's alive and he'll heal in no time. I want you to stop blaming yourself, that's an order."
Weakly she nodded. "Yes sir."
He turn to glance at Eren who was being wrapped in bandages. "Come on, let's take you home."

And for those of you who've jumped back on the Avatar bandwagon and enjoy my work, you're in luck. I've started publishing chapters in a new book called The Firebender, the Avatar, and The Deity, Oh My. As you can probably tell, it was originally planned to be a Zuko x oc, but I'm still trying to decide if I should change to Sokka.
