The Last Fox Shifter

Aydens POV

When we got back to the house the majority of the bags went into the spare room where Skylar and Mikie spent the rest of the day wrapping them so that no one would peek. the rest went with my mother back to her place.

I went to my study thinking over the conversation that we had in the restaurant. Not much of a conversation really. More being told not to celebrate her birthday. The others did a good job of acting surprised. I hid myself in office to give them some space and time to wrap presents.

"Can I come in?" Troy was standing in the doorway arms crossed.

"Of cause" I waved him over. He closed the door.

"You were deep in thought. Whats on your mind?" He took a seat on the couch relaxing

"Everything. Skyler, Mikie, their past. Mikie let it slip about her birthday. She will be 17 and shes had more shit happen to her then anyone could imagine. Its like shes in two minds about everything."

"You need to give her time. She needs to know that youre not going to abandon her like everyone else has in her life."

"Shes my mate. She should know that." I thumped my hand on the table making everything jump.

"Does she? I mean really does she know that? Have you talked to her? Have you let her know? Shes a fox spirit for heavens sake not a wolf. Shes different to us. Maybe the mate bond works differently with her, or they dont have one. We dont know. Ive looked into fox spirit and there is nothing about them. And I mean nothing." I was taken aback. I never thought to ask her. Never thought about any of it. Most bonded pairs just knew. Maybe it did work differently.

"Maybe I do need to talk to her."

"Ha I can imagine how that will go. Me Tarzan, you Jane."

"Im not that bad" I huffed flustered

"You are too." He laughed

"You need to take her somewhere where she can get answers without having to answer questions."

"And where would that be genius"

"How about the only people who know what we are" he stood up and left leaving me to ponder what he said.

I sat alone in my office for a good while when the phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Hey Ayden"

"George how are you?"

"Good, good. Was wondering if you were free tomorrow and could come over for a but i need a little help with a few things."

"Sure will 9 work for you?"

"Perfect. See you then." George hung up and I stared at the phone.

Well this could be good thing. There was a light tap on the door I walked over and opened it. Mikie and Skyler were standing there.

"Is everything ok?"

"We wanted to thank you for everything." Mikie squeaked holding out a present.

I took it and let them to the couch.

"You didnt have to" I unwrapped it slowly. It was a picture frame on the bottom was a forest seen with what looked like a black wolf. It was beautiful. But it was the picture that caught my attention more. It was of the two of them. They were both smiling and happy.

"Its beautiful." I said looking at them then back at the picture.

"Im glad you like it" Skyler smiled.

"No I dont like it I love it" I stood up and went over to them both I hugged mikie then Skyler. The tingles came on stronger this time. I moved back my smile wider.

"Thank you. You didnt have to." She shook her head but smiled.

"We did, you have done so much for us." she said.

"Anybody home?" Jonas called. Mikie took off running and we both giggled. She went to follow but I grabbed her arm stopping her. She looked up at me scared.

"Um." I let go of her and looked at the floor.

"A friend of mine needs help tomorrow. I was wondering if you would like to come along." The fear left her face and was replaced with a small smile.

"Ok" she said and dashed out the door.

"You ready?" I was waiting by the door the following morning when she came down the stairs. She smiled and turned to Mikie.

"Ill be back soon" she ruffled his hair and looked at over at Cameron who would be looking after him.

"Thank you"

After dinner sky had asked who would look after Mikie while we were gone. I put out a call and Cameron was the only free person.

"Well were off" I led Skyler out to my car and opened the door for her. She got in and I ran round to the other side.

"Thanks for coming with me" I said as I drove away from the house.

George and Megs place was a 20 min drive from home. We listened to more Christmas songs including Jingle bells and Aussie Christmas. We pulled up in front of the single story house.

"Hey Ayden. Thanks for coming" George called from the veranda as he helped me out of the car.

"And who might this lovely lady be?" a huge smile sat on Georges face.

"This is Skyler" George held out his hand for her. to my surprise she took it.

"Its nice to meet you Skyler. Meg my wife just left but she wont be too long. Come in get warm and Ill show you the problem." He held the door open for us to enter.

"Im sorry to call you out so close to Christmas but I wasnt sure if this could wait."

"Its not a problem. What seems to be the trouble?" George led us to the back half of the house where the bedrooms were. When he opened the door the room was flooded with towels and blankets trying to soak up water.

"I think you have a little problem George" I smiled.

"Yeah just a little." I made my way over to the bathroom. The sink had fallen from the wall exposing the pipes and breaking one resulting in the current flood.

"Looks like a bit of a problem. Ill need to get some things from the store to fix it. Can I take your jeep?"

"Yeah no problems. How long do you think it will take?" I looked around the room.

"Maybe today and tomorrow. We will have to play it by ear. Ill go get what we need and be right back. Will you be ok here?" I looked Skyler who nodded slightly.

"Dont worry. Ill keep her safe and tell her all about the embarrassing things you did as a child" George laughed. I didnt know whether to be scared or happy about the idea.

"I wont stay out to long then" I grabbed the keys of the bench and ran outside to Georges jeep.
