(Y/N)'s POV:
5 months after the last chapterI woke up to see it was snowing outside. Of course, it's Winter. Another Winter staying inside. I never get out during winter and no one can make me. Not even Heatwave. I went back to sleep and hoped no one would disturb me. That didn't stop Heatwave from coming in though.
"Time to get up my little fox," he told me.
"I wanna sleep for most of the winter," I told him.
"Nope," I felt Heatwave climb on top of me and the definitely got me awake, "you won't be doing that and, this year, you won't be staying inside all day."
"I don't like winter."
"And you hate water, what else is new?"
"You do know what snow is, right? It's atmospheric water vapour frozen into ice crystals and falling in light white flakes or lying on the ground as a white layer."
"Ah, ah, ah. You provide the life quotes. Not the knowledge. That's Boulder's job."
"You want one?"
"Sure."
"Well, I don't have one."
"I do. If winter helps you curl up and more, that makes it one of the best seasons."
"Alright, get off."
He did and I got out of bed. I got dressed once Heatwave left and went down to the bunker where everyone was. No surprise there. Blades especially because he hates this weather. I think mostly because of the flying. I remember my first flight with him and Danny. I hated it. I prefer the hight of the trees. Speaking of, we were watching a film together to pass the time and, hopefully, to have an excuse not to go outside.
Unfortunately, that didn't work. Everyone said they were going out to play in the snow and asked if I'd join them. As usual, I refused until Heatwave dragged me out after putting a furry winter coat on me. I didn't enjoy a minute of it. I'm more of an indoor fox in the winter. I suddenly heard whimpering nearby. Probably too far away for human ears. I went to investigate as it sounded oddly familiar.
Behind a bush were five fox pups with no mother. Of course! One of the foxes I met about 8 weeks ago was pregnant. A bit late since mating season was months ago. I should know. I shiver thinking about it. Taking my coat off, I laid it next to them and carefully put them on it. They didn't seem to mind. No doubt because they smell my fox side. Once I had them all in my coat, I took them inside to my room to get warm and out of the way.
Oh, goodness. I'm like Heatwave when Optimus came over and Heatwave wanted to hide me. The pups were so small, skinny and clearly hungry. I went into the kitchen and got out some raw steak that was supposed to be for tonight but the pups are top priority right now. I cut it up small enough for them to eat and brought it to them. The mother no doubt left to find food for them but she's clearly been away for far too long. I fed the pups one by one so they got equal amounts when Heatwave came in scaring both me and the pups.
"Where have you been?" He asked.
"Sh! You'll scare them," I told him.
"Scare who?"
I shushed him and motioned him over to the bed and showed him the pups.
"Pups?" He questioned.
"Fox pups," I corrected, "I heard them outside behind a bush. They were alone and hungry. They're not that old so the mother should still be with them but she's gone. I do hope nothing serious has happened to her. They need their mother for the next four weeks or so."
"They shouldn't even be this young. Mating season is over."
"I know. It's rather odd for pups to be born in the winter."
"What shall we do with them?"
"Best take them to the animal shelter until they're strong enough to be released out into the wild."
I let Heatwave try feeding them while I went to get a blanket and a basket to put them in. I put them in once they were fed and Heatwave took me to the shelter. I gave the person at the reception the pups and told them where I found them and what condition they were in. The took the pups and told me they would take care of them. I was about to leave when the receptionist asked if I would be interested in having a job here considering that I'm good with animals.
I told them I'd think about it and left. Maybe I should take up that job offer. Sometime in the future, I will need money for my own food and maybe my own house. Yes. A nice house in the forest. I won't be disturbed there. And Heatwave can live there too. We will have a comlink so the team can reach Heatwave whenever they need him. What a perfect life that would be. Later that week, I took the job opportunity and I was allowed to look after the fox pups until winter was over.
They were very playful around me as were most of the other animals but I wasn't complaining. I was comfortable around them. I am part animal. Heatwave would often visit when I'm working to see how I'm doing and often helped with the animals. Eventually, I was able to buy the house in the forest I imagined but never told anyone about it until I properly moved in. Heatwave moved in with me after I told him my plan. Living a normal human life isn't that bad.
(A/N: that's all I've got. See you next chapter.)
