"Mom! Mom, wake up!" A young girl screamed, in hysterics whilst the area around her was in flames.

The villain in front of her laughed maniacally, "Yes! Beg for your mother to come back! It won't work!"

The heroes around the geokinetic villain all charged in at once, only to be impaled by large spikes of rock.

"NO!" The young girl screamed, she didn't want anyone else getting hurt.

Wings unfurled from behind her green flowing locks, and she ran to every downed hero, putting her hands on their open wounds.

A green glow emitted from her hands, and the otherwise fatal wounds faded away from each hero.

The villain realized what was going on and tried to impale the young girl, but his quirk had somehow stopped working.

"Sheesh, you were elusive. But I finally got you." Eraserhead muttered from the alley.

He wrapped his capture gear around the villain and took him into custody.

"Hey kid, are you alright?" The young girl looked up from her mother's broken body to see Eraserhead looking down at her with sympathetic eyes.

She sniffled, "Mom isn't waking up..."

"I'm sorry, but your mom is gone. She's not waking up ever again." He decided to be brutally honest with her, even though she's just a four-year-old kid who just got her quirk, she appeared to have a better grip on reality than most kids.

"I... I know..." The young girl hiccupped, still crying, "Why didn't my quirk manifest sooner? I could've saved her!"

Eraserhead also thought it was weird for the girl's quirk not to manifest when her mother got hurt and instead manifested when other heroes got hurt.

"Hey, what's your name? We'll take you to the police and see if you have any more relatives you can move in with." He laid a reassuring hand on the little girl's shoulder.

"I-Izumi Midoriya..."

Eraserhead hummed, "A Midoriya, huh? Your father made quite the reputation in his field."

At the mere mention of her father, Izumi looked up in hope, but Eraserhead quickly crushed those hopes, "Sorry, kid. He passed doing what he loved best. I couldn't believe he risked catching the plague to save a patient."

Izumi looked disbelievingly at Eraserhead, "Y-you're lying, you have to be! Dad can't be gone too!"

He merely shook his head, "I'm sorry, kiddo. Your father was... quite fond of those he considered his friends, myself included. Unfortunately, you don't have any relatives left who are able to take you in."

Tears started dropping down from Izumi's face, Eraserhead realized too late that he had been way too brutally honest with her.

"Shit." He muttered under his breath.

"So you're saying that you were too brutally honest with a four-year-old child and now she's sobbing uncontrollably?" Midnight asked.

Eraserhead sighed, "Nemuri, you of all people should know how bad I am with children. If you had been there, she probably wouldn't be sobbing so hard."

"Sheesh, Shota, I knew you were bad with people in general, but I never thought you were so heartless!"

"I'm not heartless. I just... Don't have much contact with other people, you know this, Nemuri."

"Yeah, yeah. So, what are we gonna do about her? Hisashi's gone, Inko's gone, the poor thing has no more known relatives still around."

Aizawa immediately noticed the look on her face.

"We are not adopting her."

"Aw, come on, sweetie, please?"

"Your seduction tactics will not work on me, and we're not married, stop calling me sweetie."

"We still live in the same house." She drawled in a sing-song voice, earning a frustrated growl from Aizawa.

"Because you burnt your goddamn house down! We are not adopting the kid and that's final."

"What's with you and other people? You always avoid them."

"Because I'm not as good with people as you or Hizashi. Granted, Hizashi isn't either, but he's still more social than I am."

"Oh, come on, Shota, this is a perfect opportunity for you to get over your dislike of people! What's stopping you?"

"I can't deal with kids, Nemuri! We've been through this."

"Oh come on, it won't be all bad. Look, I'll adopt her, you don't need to take care of her if you don't want to, but at least work on your social skills with her, alright?"

Aizawa sighed, "I suppose there's no arguing with you. Fine. I'll go along with this insane plan."

"It's not insane, Shota. Stop making it out to be." Kayama retorted, "Alright, I'll go sign the adoption papers. You go home and prepare some dinner, alright?"

"I'd better be the one preparing dinner. The last time you tried to cook, you nearly burnt the house down."

"It was one time!"

"Whatever, just get the kid."

Izumi sat obediently on a chair in the waiting room of the police station. Silently plucking at her wings.

She hated the timing. She hated this quirk for not manifesting sooner.

But it didn't matter how many feathers she plucked from her wings. They grew back almost immediately after she plucked them off.

"You know, you shouldn't pluck your feathers. It makes you less aerodynamic."

Izumi looked up into the smiling face of Midnight.

"I hate this quirk." Izumi confessed, silent tears sliding down her face, "It didn't manifest sooner. I could've saved mom!"

"Hey, it's okay, kiddo. You have your quirk now, you can save others. I'm sure your mother wouldn't want you to hate your quirk because she sacrificed herself for you." Midnight remained smiling, even after hearing what Izumi said, which, despite not showing it, greatly disheartened her.

"I suppose..." Izumi muttered, seemingly not convinced.

"I was friends with your mom, you know. She wouldn't have wanted you to beat yourself up over her death. Come on, chin up. Use your quirk to save those you can. Be a better hero than anyone can ever be. I'm sure that's what Inko would've wanted too." Midnight suggested, little did she know that Izumi was convinced from the moment Midnight made mention of her mom.

Izumi agreed to go with Midnight as she signed the adoption papers and took Izumi back home.

A/N: Well shit. That took an entire week to write. I've been binge-watching a lot of anime lately. Dr Stone, Koro Sensei Quest, Twin Star Exorcists, a lot of stuff.

And you found time to binge watch anime instead of writing a chapter. You lazy fucking procrastinator.

Shut up, I actually had trouble with it this time.

Was that why you wanted me to write the later half of it?

Consider it an honor. I don't usually let you write my chapters, since you'd probably fill them with morbid shit.

You're more morbid than I am, just saying.

That's besides the point! Anyways, thank you guys for sticking with me for this long. Did you enjoy the first chapter? Let me know in the comments below!

'Me'? No 'us'?

Sorry, I meant us.

You definitely did not.

Whatever.
