Dice looked down at the small little angel before him and sighed. "Opal... darlin are you sure you wanna do this? There's a lot of casino to clean and right now it's just gonna be you... I don't want you to hurt yourself..." He said as he tried to do something with her long ass hair to keep it out of her way.
"Yes sir Mr. Dice. I can do it. I'll have the entire building clean by the time my shift is over."
Dice barked a laugh, "Oh sweetie! No no! You can't do that! There's no way! Look no one expects you to do something extraordinary. Just do what you can and do your best and I guarantee you the boss will be so pleased with you." This girl was such a bright little spark it was hard to believe where she came from.
Opal nodded and as dice finished her hair he showed her the cleaning supply closet and gave her a walkie talkie to radio him if she had any questions.
He then left her, figuring she could maybe at least clean the front room by the end of her shift.
The day was long and hard for dice, busy from the second the doors opened to the second they kicked everyone out.
Everyone on the main crew was exhausted and dice felt bad he hadn't been there to see opal after her shift ended but he figured she was fine since he never heard anything over the walkie from her. Not a question or complaint or request for help, nothing. It had honestly been nice not having to worry over her like he did everyone else.
He went to look at how well the front room had been cleaned and it was utterly spotless. Even the glass ceiling had been washed on both the inside and outside. He could see the stars so well through the once foggy muggy glass.
He blinked amazed. She must have worked so hard. He had to go tell her what a good job she had done so he made sure the doors were locked before heading for the devils office...when he noticed that the hall carpets looked brand new, and it smelled like cleaner in the hall.
He took a detour down a hall that was for residence, the crew that worked there, and it too was spotless. Another hall for guests staying in the casino was spotless and he even checked the bedrooms attached and they were all sparkling clean.
There was no way that girl had done all of this in one 6 hour shift... just no way...
He turned on his heals and went for the devil again but before he could he stopped again as he saw opal flapping her wings in front of the devils large ornate door and scrubbing out the mouths of the gargoils with a tooth brush.
"Opal? Darlin what are you doing?"
She flinched when dice spoke and fluttered back down and folded her hands in front of herself. "Oh... Mr. Dice. Sir. Is...is my shift over already?"
"Already? Opal... your shift was over 6 hours ago... you've been working since 7 this morning...its nearly midnight!" He said, looking at his watch.
Her face fell and she bowed her head.
"I'm sorry Mr. Dice. I... I didnt." She seemed to shrink before him and his heart ached as she looked like she thought she was in trouble.
"Opal! Opal you're not in trouble honey. I just..." He rubbed his face in exasperation. The boss was gonna kill him if he found out that his new toy worked that long and did so damn much. "Why didn't you come to me when you finished the front room?"
"Because... on my way to you someone spilled their drink in the hall so I had to clean it up and when I cleaned the spot the rest of the hall looked dirty then the ajoining halls looked bad and so I cleaned those and then the rooms off them looked bad so I cleaned those and then I couldn't find you after I was done and my radio was dead so I tried to find you but the masters door was all dusty so I figured you'd find me when my shift was over and I'd be able to get all my work done before then."
Dice blinked. Oh dear. Oh goodness. Yeah the boss was gonna kill him. This sweet little thing was going to be the reason for his death.
"I'm sorry I didn't finish everything today Mr. Dice. I swear tomorrow I'll work extra hard."
"No!" He shouted, making her flinch but he quickly composed himself. "No sweetie. You did an amazing job today. I am stunned at how much you were able to accomplish in just one day."
"So... I'm not going to be punished? Masters not going to find out?" She asked hopeful.
Dice blinked, "Well... I'm going to tell him you did a fantastic job but no... no one's going to punish you. You didn't do anything wrong."
She seemed to relax a little and she took a deep breath. She really seemed afraid of messing things up and getting in trouble.
He took the tooth brush from her hand and tossed it in the bucket of soapy water by the door before slipping his arm around her and knocking on the door.
"Come in." Called the devil gruffly.
