What Could've Been...

Erin's POV
I looked out the plane window, lost in my thoughts. I managed to get us on a red eye flight to Chicago. It's been a chaotic few hours to say the least. This wasn't what I had planned for us when I got home from work tonight. I thought I would be able to just relax and enjoy the night in with Sophia but life had other plans for us.

Absentmindedly, I ran my hand through Sophia's short, brunette hair, looking down at her as she was in deep slumber with her head laying on my lap and her arm hugging her beloved teddy bear that she can't sleep without. The teddy bear that Hank gave to her when she was born. She had fallen asleep after the plane took off, which isn't surprising considering that it's way past her bedtime. I let my mind wander once again, thinking about all the what ifs, and everything that may happen - the good, the bad, and everything in between. Suddenly, I felt a hand touch my arm and snapped my head up.

"You okay Erin?" Chloe looked at me, concerned.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I let out a breath, "Why?"

"Well I called your name multiple times and didn't get a response. You just seem so lost in your own world," she explained.

"Sorry, just thinking about Hank," I admitted softly, looking back down at a peacefully sleeping Sophia.

"Whatever happens, it's going to be okay," she tried to reassure me.

"How do you know that? Chloe, I don't know what I'd do if he doesn't make it. He's the only family I have left, well other than Sophia, but still. He saved my life Chloe. He's like my dad," I looked at her.

"I've met him several times and I know he loves the both of you a lot. I'm sure he's fighting and will do everything he can," she encouraged.

I let out a long breath, closing my eyes. "You should try to get some sleep Chloe. It's gonna be a long few days and I really need your help taking care of this munchkin as I'll probably be in the hospital a lot," I said.

"Don't worry about it Erin. Be with him, I'll take care of her," she smiled.

I nodded. "Thank you Chloe. For everything. I don't know what I'd do without you," I looked at her appreciatively.

She gave me a smile and for the rest of the flight, I tried to keep myself calm.
