Wednesday afternoon, Abela was holding her black coffee and a biscuit in her hands. She was leaving the coffee shop down the street from campus dragging her feet. They had a coffee shop on campus but it was always crowded and the coffee was poorly made. It's been 3 days since classes started and she already was so exhausted from all the work they gave them. The only thing that got her through the past couple days was "Kaffeine's Coffee & Sandwich shop".
It was a small white building with plants hanging from the ceiling and drawings that looked like customers probably drew them for the shop. You could tell the shop had to been pretty old because the bricks that were painted white were starting to show the reddish brown color on certain parts. It gave it a charming look. A lady with frizzy brown hair, that she could tell was dyed because some grey was showing, took her orders everyday. She even started to remember Abela's name. She mostly came back to see her. She was so kind with a little spunk. She kind of reminded Abela of her mum. Always caring for everyone else but herself but was ready to call you out when you pissed her off. It still didn't compare to the locally owned coffee and tea shop by her home by Dover, England but it would do for the next couple years.
Her town she grew up in was about 5 hours away from Manchester so she would just have to miss good coffee till next time she could visit her family. Which would be a while considering her family wasn't really that wealthy. Her great aunt who passed away three years ago put money aside for Abela to attend school. Her parents had told her that her aunt was big on schooling for girls and since she had no kids and Abela was her moms only child it was passed to her. She just got really lucky.
A couple of crumbs fell onto her burnt orange sweater as she took a bite of her biscuit. She had public speaking class starting soon. Then not long after her "date" with Jack at the library. She was a little nervous at the thought of Jack possibly fancying her. Sophie wouldn't stop pestering her about him. Yes, he was very dreamy but looks aren't everything to Abela. Sophie usually made fun of the guys she liked because they did tend to look homely and Abela knew that. She just tried to look past those things when they had similar passions. Granite, maybe she should look for a guy who wasn't a male version of herself because none of the guys worked out.
As she passed the over grown hedges that surrounded the castle like school. She stopped and stared, drinking her coffee and eating the last bit of her snack. The school had open window archways made of tan bricks that were gigantic but against the school looked insignificant. Since they were open you could see students walking the halls. When she first arrived here she didn't really notice these small things. She was sure no one really noticed its beauty or they would be standing here like her memorizing the minor details. Taking another drink of her coffee she set back into motion toward the school. Passing a couple holding hands and looking at each other like they were enchanted with each other. She loved seeing couples in love because she wished she knew how it felt. She wanted a romance that consumed her like this couple seemed to be with each other.
She heard someone call her name. She turned toward the field of grass where the voice came from. Sophie was sitting with three of her friends from football the other day. They had an old yellow picnic blanket laying on the slightly dying grass.
Sophie waved her over to their gathering, "Abela! Come here and sit with us!"
She smiled warmly at the group and waved hello as she made her way over to the friends. She sat next to a girl with jet black hair. She had olive skin and brown eyes. Her style was vintage wearing a white button up blouse and plain grey trousers. She wore a lot of jewelry that probably came from her gran because they had to of been made in the 50's. Not Abela's taste but she was lovely.
"This is Abela. We've been mates since grade school. She's also studying for writing! This is Em and Ethan." Sophie expressed to the group.
"I thought I had seen you before. Charming to finally meet you." Ethan shook her hand. He pulled down his circle glasses from his blonde hair and let them rest on his nose. He features were very plain with peroxide blonde hair, his jaw line kinda blended in with his neck, and his lips were thin. He wore a black fitted jumper and black trousers that looked a size too small but Abela figured that was the style he was going for.
