As Jake, Paul and I approached Sam's house, I could sense three new, unfamiliar minds. I was surprised I hadn't heard about these visitors in Sam's thoughts earlier. I suppose chasing Victoria had us all a little distracted.
I focused on the darkest mind first. This is a person that has seen and experienced endless pain and trauma. He seemed to be replaying the chase of Victoria in his mind. He was there? How did I miss that? He was half paying attention to the conversation, the other half of his mind was fully focused on the teen beside him moving his hands around his head wildly. His thoughts were fond and admiring as he looked at him out of the corner of his eyes.
The next mind I caught onto was... good. That was the best way I could describe it, pure and good. Like a child or puppies mind.
Which brought me to one of the most interesting minds I had ever heard. This boys thoughts were intelligent, calculating, but also scattered and erratic. He was thinking about several things at once. Vampires, werewolves, his family, the boys on either side of him. If I didn't know better, I would assume he was a vampire with the capacity of his mind. I wonder what his IQ is.
Jake, Paul and I all shared a glance as we caught their scents and voices. Two werewolves, though not smelling quite the same as the Quileutes, and one human. There was an image of the three men in their minds, something provided by Sam in the pack mind.
"So they actually drink human blood?" The human one asked in a tone of disgust.
"Not always..." Seth trailed off, his eyes moving to us as we entered the house.
The one with the dark mind- Derek- was in front of the human in a second flat, his hand resting firmly on his hip as he shielded him with his body. The other one- with the pure mind- Scott was beside him immediately, both of them growling loudly, conveying a warning and a threat. These werewolves were different from the pack. They both had glowing red eyes, fangs, and claws. And both of their minds were screaming vampire. The human was just utterly confused.
Jacob moved himself closer to my side at the obvious threat they were displaying, but I wasn't concerned.
"Der? Scotty? What's wrong?" The human- Stiles?- asked from behind them. I'm not even going to bother trying to get around them right now, they'll just shove me right back. But the packs touch usually calms them down a little... he thought, placing a hand on each of their backs.
"Vampire," they both answered, their fangs muffling the word.
"What?!" He screeched, his thoughts were at war as he considered both hiding himself further and trying to take a peek at a 'real life vampire'.
"It's okay!" Jake defended beside me. "He's not like the one we chased!"
Suddenly the rest of the pack members were moving to stand around Jake and I protectively.
"He's with us," Sam spoke firmly. It was the tone of an alpha that brooked no arguments. Too bad I brought two alphas of my own, Stiles thought sarcastically.
"How?! Why?" Derek demanded, not relaxing his stance in the slightest. His eyes were alert, taking in everything in the room, waiting for the slightest sign of movement.
"Stiles is human!" Scott shouted angrily, as if accusing them of putting his life in jeopardy.
"What kind of name is Stiles?" Paul snorted.
Stiles let out a huff of annoyance. If we want an alliance with this pack, we need to trust them. Even if they do run with vampires. The idea seems contradictory to the way they spoke about them earlier, but that's besides the point. They trusted us enough to invite us into their home, to introduce us to all of their pack. We need to show the same courtesy, his mind raced and he came to a decision quickly.
