"Dad, please don't go" my four years old self was there, in my most miserable and vulnerable state, crying next to my sister.
"I'll come back, don't worry. Plus, I will visit you each month".
Lies...that never happened.
"You promise?"
"I promise"
More lies...
He came to us, and hugged me with his left arm while he hugged my sister with his right arm.
Who knew that this hug meant nothing?
"As much as this hurts you, it hurts me too".
Lies, Lies, Lies...everything is a LIE!
But I was too young, too naive. I believed everything that was said to me.
"I'm sorry but I have to go now".
After saying that, he picked his bags and left like it was nothing, and all that I did was to stick to my place, while crying, watching as his silhouette got further and further away from me, not being able to see his face for one last time.
. . . . .
. . . .
. . .
. .
.
"Aaaaaah!" I suddenly woke up, to see feel my form on the bed , panting loudly, covered in cold sweat just because of one nasty nightmare, or more like a memory.
'How many more times will this memory have an effect on me? How many more times will I have to see it? Is it the only one I have left of him, or are there many more of its kind?'
I made my way out of my bedroom, into my bathroom and washed my face. As I put my hands on both sides of the sink and looked into my reflection, questions began to plague my mind like a disease.
'What did he even look like?'
'Is he still alive?'
'Does he even know where I live?'
'Will I ever meet him again?'
I shook those questions off of my head, and headed for the kitchen to grab something to eat. There, I saw my mother reading the news while drinking coffee.
'Weird, usually she's at work this time'
"Good morning mother" I greeted her with a smile. Apparently, she haven't noticed me until I made my presence known.
"Good morning Y/N. What do you want to eat?"
"Just some cereals and milk. Mother, can I ask you why you haven't left to work yet?"
"I want to discuss something important with you". She said, losing all emotion on her face.
"Yes mother, what is it?"
"What high school are you planning to attend?" She asked raising an eyebrow.
"U.A" I said with a firm voice, sure of my decision, not planning on going back.
"Are you sure you want to be a hero? You know, it's a dangerous job, plus you can be a pilot or a doctor like me, it's way better". That one took me by surprise. To be honest I would have never expected her to say something like that, she was always encouraging and would always tell me to follow my dreams.
"Yes, I am sure, mother. But didn't you always tell me to follow my dreams and never give up on them? I am sorry if I am disappointing you, but I am not giving up on this dream. I know that you only wish for my best, but I am not backing off from this decision". She just sighed, seemingly expecting my answer and accepting my decision.
That's when a wave of joy washed over me; I have always been home-schooled, so I was more than delighted to hear that I was finnaly going to interact with people of my age. But that happy moment wasn't long.
"But under some conditions"
'Oh, come on!'
"First of all, you will be enrolling there with a recommendation".
"Second of all, my personal chauffeur will be taking you and bringing you back home every day, if you wish to come alone contact us both beforehand" she paused looking straight into my eyes, as if she had a quirk that allows her to look into people's soul, her gaze was sharp, making shivers go up and down my spine.
"And lastly...you are not allowed to have any relationships beyond friendship.
Understood?"
"YES MOTHER!" I didn't want to scream, but what could I do? I was overwhelmed with the fear which was caused by her frightening look.
Silence took over the room, accompanied with a tension thicker than bokuto's thighs, until I decided to break it with a question.
"May I ask you who will be recommending me?
"That's for you to discover in tonight's evening. Speaking of which, I already prepared a dress for you to wear, you will find it laying on my bed"
"Alright, thank you mother". She then stood up and kissed my forehead.
"I have to go now, be ready before 8 o'clock" after bidding her goodbye, I went upstairs to see that dress.
. . . . . . . . . . .
We were now in our limousine heading for this so called 'meeting place', and it didn't take take long before we arrived there. As soon as we stepped out of the car, journalists came rushing towards us like a tsunami wave with the objective of taking some photos and asking us questions as we revealed our wearings: a long blue simple dress with a belt made out of silk, and a silver neckless which my mother wore, and a shorter one, its top covered in a thin layer of lace that has flower patterns accompanied with triangular earrings that I wore
[So, this is what your mother is wearing]
[And this is what you are wearing. It took me forever to find a beautiful dress, and when I finally found some it was hard to choose.]
As we entered, the huge glamorous hall was filled with pro heroes, businessmen and businesswomen with all their glory and elegance, wearing fancy clothings. The first person who caught my eyes was Hawks with his bright red feathers and his tuxedo. He was heading towards me and mother.
"Good evening (L/N)-san " was the first thing he said.
'Is it just me, or is it really the first time he speaks formally?'
"Good evening Hawks".
"May I have a word with your daughter if you dont mind?"
"Of course, that is not an inconvenience to me, just make sure she comes back".
"Will do, thank you for accepting" I then followed hawks to a calmer area, as we were walking I eyed him up and down"
"Stop staring and looking at me like that, it's creepy!"
'Oh well, he caught me'.
"No, I won't. Not when you are wearing that tuxedo and speaking formally" i said smiling my usual smile. He just sighed and turned around, facing me. He was grinning ear to ear, eager to say something. Now that he fully turned around I was finally able to see him properly, he was wearing a maroon jacket and pants, a black shirt and a red tie, orned with a chain that connects both sides of the fur that was attached to a black cape.
"So..." he started but didn't continue
"So what?"
"What did she say?"
"About that...she accepted but with some conditions"
"What are those conditions?"
"Well...
First, I can't pass the entering exam, I will get there with a recommendation instead.
Second, I mostly can't go there alone, I will be be brought there by her chauffeur.
And last..."
"What is the last condition?" He asked, not skipping a beat.
"I am not allowed to have a romantic relationship, not that I want one nor believe in that something called 'love' ".
"That kinda suck you know, also why don't you believe in love?"
"I have my own reasons, and love is just a pathetic excuse people created to justify their needs, lust and weird behaviour"
"Nah, that's not true, you will be taking that right back where it came from when you will experience it"
"Yeah, yeah whatever you say 'Mr. Love expert' " I said, my tone full of sarcasm stopping myself from rolling my eyes.
"Just you wait and see. Also who will be recommending you?"
"Even I myself don't know, mother said I will meet them this evening"
"Alright then. I think we should now go back or your mother will ground us both" he laughed at his own joke.
'Silly'
Yes, he was silly, talkative, cheerful, maybe a bit too much cheerful, but that's exactly why he was a unique person, he was the only cheerful person in my life, always wearing that contagious smile, doing his maximum to be the best person and hero he could be to the point of almost sacrificing himself, without mentioning always being there for me. Even though he isn't my real brother, I still considered him as one.
"Hey keigo, why did you come here wearing that suit? You never wear formal clothes nor speak formally, so why the sudden change in attitude?"
Oh yes! keigo aka:hawks probably considers me as his small sister as well, since I'm among the few people that know his name and are allowed to call him by it. Not only that but he usually stays with me in his free time, either chatting and relaxing, or training my body and eyesight, and since he has the eyes of a hawk - since it is his quirk- it was beneficial for my training.
"No reason, it just crossed my mind so I did it"
I almost forgot, he always does the weirdest and most unexpected things.
We finally arrived where my mother was waiting for me with miruko, wait...MIRUKO?!
'Oh my god, it really is miruko, in all her glory and grace, in bone and flesh! Destiny has finally decided to let me meet my idol'
As we got there, my mother introduced us to each other.
"Miruko, this is my daughter, (Y/N). (Y/N), as you know this is miruko, the #5 hero".
Unable to put on a different smile, I wore the same smile I have always worn, I bowed my head.
Even so, I was genuinely happy; I have always wanted to see her, and now the chance is presented to me on a silver plate.
"Good evening miruko-San, I am truly honoured to be meeting you"
"Hello there, just call me miruko no need for honorifics" she told me having her pround and confident grin on her face. I only now noticed that she wasn't wearing formal clothes like everyone else, just her hero costume, but she still looked as cool as ever.
"As you have already guessed, miruko here will be recommending you. But for that, you will have a mach with her next month so she can see if you are worthy of being recommended by her."my mother suddenly interjected.
"I am looking forward to having a mach with you, miruko." I said, determination plastered on my face.
"Hmm...I like your determination, kid.
I look forward to that too." And with that, she left saying that she only came to meet me before going on her night patrol shift.
'Oh! That explains why she came with her hero costume!'
The hall was filled with chatter and laughter until it all stopped when three figures went on stage; the first one was my mother's, the second one was David Shield's and the third one who had pitch black hair and long black eyes was still unknown for me.
"Good evening everybody, we thank you for coming to tonight's event" Shield-San was the first to have a word.
"We are gathered on this lovely day to discuss our newest project." Mother said soon after him.
"This project will be a health assistant robot, which will be available for everyone." The third person said
"It's in the shape of a bracelet, and can transform into a small robot." The blond inventor said, taking a small silver bracelet from his pocket.
"All you need to do is call the name given to it, and it will instantly transform back, it is provided with all the medical knowledge, from small to big details." Mother added.
They started asking that same robot many questions, to which it replied, it even showed us the procedure of a surgery.
Soon enough, the hall was filled with people's clapping and small encouragements here and there, mine as well. The three people who took the spotlight thanked the others and descended the stage, heading my way.
Seeing them come near me, I slightly bowed saying good evening.
"And that is an incredible invention, I seek to see it in action." I said, showing them my utmost respect.
"(L/N)-san played a crucial role and I wouldn't have been able to make with your her help, therefore, all the glory should go to her" Shield-San said making me look at her with admiration in my eyes.
"That is enough flattering to me, but thank you nevertheless, this is a great opportunity for all of us to save people's lives. (Y/N), I suppose you haven't met Yaoyorozu-San yet?" Mother asked me, clearly speaking of the third person that was with them.
"Unfortunately not yet. But I am most delighted to make your acquaintance Yaoyorozu-San." I bowed a 90 degree bow to show him all of my respect.
"The feelings are mutual.
By the way, I have a question to ask, if you don't mind?"
"Not at all, go ahead." I responded with the same expression I had all the time while being here.
"You are attending U.A to become a hero, is that correct?"
"Yes, it is."I responded
"Hmm, interesting." That seemed pretty weird, someone asking you about your choice only to say 'interesting'.
"I apologise if this might seem rude, but is there a particular reason as to why you asked me about it?" I couldn't keep in , my mouth won the race between him and my brain, and decided to just speak what I was thinking.
"Actually yes, I would like you to meet, or at least know the face of my daughter who will be enrolling at the same high school as you, with the same objective in mind. She doesn't have many friends, and if it isn't too much to ask, I would like you to become one of hers." He answered me truthfully which lessened my aching curiosity.
Taking his phone out of his pockets, he clicked on it a few times and showed me the image of a smiling girl, nearly my age. She has got long black hair and clever eyes with the same colour as her father's.
'Wow, she's so beautiful!'
"Her name is momo, and she is probably the same age as you." The black haired adult said.
"I look forward to meeting her, Yaoyorozu-San"
"Thank you. Anyways, I must take my leave now. It was nice meeting you." He said before leaving. We bid him goodbye and continued o with the evening.
The rest of the night went smoothly, with me conversing with Shield-San and other pro heroes here and there, then chatting with hawks, until the event came to an end.
As I was heading towards the exit, a glimpse of crimson hair flashed in my eyesight and took all my attention and mind.
'That looks like Endeavour's hair, but he didn't even come, so how is it possible?'
"(Y/N), keep your composure." Mother ordered me, finnaly snapping me out of my toughts.
"Oh! I am sory!" I quickly apologized and concentrated on my way.
"Mother, did Endeavour come tonight?" Curiosity got the best of me. Again.
"No, he didn't, but a representative of his did come"
'Yeah, doesn't matter' I didn't think too much about it.
But unbeknownst to me, the same person I was questioning about was starring at me the whole night.
