Hermione finds out the truth about Y/N and her family backstory.
Y/N was studying in the library, trying to study for Snape's potions quiz soon. She wasn't fond of studying; however she knew how important her grades are especially with how strict the professors are with it, Hermione liked how academically focused Y/N was. She has had a crush on Y/N since she first saw her which was in 3rd year.
Maybe it was the way her hair flowed or those elfin Eye/C orbs. Y/N rarely ever smiled but whenever she did and Hermione saw, she couldn't help but smile shyly, her smile was just too contagious and adorable. Y/N always had a blank or irritated expression on her face, probably because she was bored of other people's stupidity.
She asked why she arrived at Hogwarts so late, Y/N usual response was always personal issues. Hermione never really understood what that meant, she had come up with a few theories about her sudden arrival over the years. One, probably with family issues which she knows how sensitive that topic is for some people.
Two, maybe some health issues.. but what could possibly be so life-threatening a young healthy looking girl like she has? What was even more suspicious about her was how she saw that she wasn't getting sorted with the first years, in fact, she looked over at all of the Hogwarts house tables and she saw her sitting at the Ravenclaw table. She was very curious about the girl, but she would never admit that to Harry or Ron, especially with their endless badgering about her and Y/N.
Hermione had a strange relationship with her, Y/N usually has the same classes as Hermione, rarely conversing with each other but whenever they do they both would take advantage of every minute of it. Hermione always envied how b/f/n would always have the opportunity to talk to Y/N whenever they wanted, which Hermione could've easily but the awkward tension between them always got the best of her.
Hermione was known as 'the brightest witch of her age' but whenever she conversed with Y/N she had a hard time admitting she was probably more brilliant than she was, Y/N never vaunted her knowledge as Hermione did. Her somewhat introverted and kind of socially awkward demeanor not to mention their dislike of crowds always made her seem to wander like a ghost whenever a huge event was going to happen. Hermione noticed that about Y/N, determined to make her open up more.
She liked how she was able to talk about anything to Y/N and how she was able to keep up with Hermione's words without making her ever interrupt to dumb down or repeat what she just said. Y/N was also a very attentive listener, she always kept her gaze on Hermione when she was rambling excitingly about something.
She found it absolutely adorable when Hermione's eyes would light up whenever Y/N asked her some book recommendations, her also being a bit of a bookworm but she didn't read as many books as the bushy-haired girl did. These feelings they had for each other had been bottled up for a while now.
It was already 5th year, Hermione hadn't been able to crack Y/N, yet. She even talked to her brother, Jace who was two years older than both of them. He keeps saying 'It's her secret to tell, not mine,' his responses only made Hermione more interested in the girl's obscurity. Y/N was always wandering in the halls with one of her friends, (y/f/n). They always hung around her, she didn't have any friends but everyone and I mean EVERYONE knew who she was, but nobody knew her family background.
Hermione just got out of Charms, she started walking to her next class until she got a glimpse of her favorite Ravenclaw girl, Y/N, who was currently walking while seeming to listen to the figure walking next to her. Hermione quickly approached her tapping on her shoulder, she quickly turned around. She looked at the bushy-haired girl then back to her friend, seeming to get the message she quickly shuffled away from the two. Hermione started to get nervous, tapping her index finger on the book she was currently hugging on her chest.
Y/N noticing this she quickly spoke up. "Did you want something?" She asked as softly as she could, trying to calm down the shorter girl's nerves. Hermione nodded lightly, the tip of her ears tinting a light pink.
She huffed shakily, trying to ease some of her nerves. "I wanted to know if you wanted to study with me in the library," Y/N furrowing her eyebrows at her, Hermione lowering her head down towards the floor continuing to ramble. "Only if you want to of course- I don't really expect you to accept my response but-" Y/N raised her index finger to Hermione's chin, lifting her head to her eyes. Y/N lips curled into a small smirk, amused by the girl's rambling. She nodded, accepting her request.
"Sure, just tell me when," Hermione's eyes narrowed into the taller girl's orbs, seeing if there were any hints of dishonesty swirling around those Eye/C orbs. She nodded, rubbing her neck shyly about the time.
"Maybe after dinner?" She requested hesitantly. Y/N nodded, waving her goodbye with a small smile on her face. Hermione's heart stopped for a second seeing Y/N's charming smile.

"Hermione have you heard?" Harry asked, they were currently in the dining hall, Hermione was sitting next to Harry while Ron sat across both of them. Hermione curled an eyebrow at him questioningly, signaling him to go on. He nodded. "Y/N.. passed you in potions," Harry said cautiously. Hermione furrowed her eyebrows at him, making sure she heard him correctly. He nodded hesitantly after a few moments, knowing how angry Hermione might've been for this, she's always been on top of her classes but when she heard someone else surpassed her, Harry knew she was most likely going to be enraged.
Hermione's eyes widened, shocked. She looked over at the y/h/h table, seeing Y/N brooding which worried her. The topic of Y/N passing the bushy-haired girl in potions had been thrown out the window, she made a mental note with herself to ask her what was wrong when they're going to study. Y/N got up from her table, seeing how she barely touched her food as she made her way out the Great Hall.
The raven-haired boy looked over at Hermione, noticing how her eyes were following a certain someone on their way out of the Great Hall. Harry smirked knowingly, Ron being the oblivious person he continued eating. Harry nudged the bushy-haired girl next to him, making her snap out of her trance as she directed her eyes towards him.
"What do you want, Harold?" Hermione asked harshly, Harry's grin only widening in response. Harry still is not making eye contact with the girl instead of looking towards the table.
"Nothing, nothing at all. Just watching how you observe your future girlfriend as she exits the Great Hall." He retaliated teasingly, Hermione smacking him with her book, slowly becoming a blushing mess.
"She's not my girlfriend!" She replied with a snappy comeback. Harry shrugged, a grin still plastered on his face almost saying 'whatever you say.' Ron looked at the two confused, Hermione giving him a discreet sneer as he just went back to his plate.
A few moments after, Hermione finished her food as she decided to go after Y/N, already knowing where she was. She waved the boys goodbye as she hurriedly rushed out of the Great Hall making her way to the library.

Hermione greeted Madam Pince as she looked around the library, her face fell when she didn't see Y/N anywhere she looked. She shyly looked over at Madam Pince, seeing her reading something. Hermione on the other hand was trying to work up the courage to ask where a certain someone was, that was until she saw someone else familiar, Jace. She quickly walked over to him tapping him on the shoulder, he turned around with a teasing smirk.
"How may I help you?" He asked the younger girl with a slight glee in his tone. Hermione raised an eyebrow at him, slightly shaking her head out of her thoughts.
"I wanted to ask you where Y/N was," She let out. He raised an eyebrow in the interest of the bushy-haired girl towards his sister, nodding understanding.
He then snapped his index and thumb together, like a light bulb went off inside of his head. "I think she headed to the y/h/h dormitories, I was just heading there right now. If you'd like to come and talk to her, I'm sure she wouldn't mind." He offered generously which made Hermione taken aback by his kindness. She nodded slightly as she then followed the older year to the dorm.
After a few minutes, they arrived as he quickly muttered the password, opening to the common room. Hermione's eyes widened in awe of the common room's beauty of unique design, Jace patted her back trying to get the shorter girl out of her trance. "I'll walk you up to her room." He states, Hermione, nodding in appreciation.
They climbed up the stairs as they made their way to her dorm, he knocked on the door a few times. It was a few moments till she heard the doorknob rotated, opening the door. Hermione saw that Y/N was in her nightwear. As soon as Y/N saw her older brother, she rolled her eyes at him, then landed on the bushy-haired girl lightly waving her index finger at her, gesturing a 'hello.'
Y/N looked back up at her older brother with bored eyes. "What do you want," she asked, irked.
He pointed to Hermione, "Just walked her to your dorm and wanted to talk to you." He responded, Y/N lightly nodded. Before Hermione could react, Y/N grabbed her wrist bringing her into the dorm.
Directing her attention back at her sibling, "Great she's here now leave." She says with a hint of exhaustion in her tone, he nodded and gave her a kiss on top of her head a goodnight. She closed the door, seeing Hermione walking around her dorm. It was kind of small but still homey considering the room was clearly only for one person.
"You can sit on the bed if you'd like." Y/N offered, Hermione nodded shyly as she sat on the bed as the taller girl leaned herself against the wall, facing Hermione. The bushy-haired girl made eye contact with Y/N as she quickly averted her eyes towards her lap, feeling a rush of heat making its way up to her neck as she played with her fingers nervously, her heart pounding just being in the presence of the taller girl. "If you're disappointed about me missing our study session, I apologize." She says candidly, noticing the bushy-haired girl's troubled expression.
"That's not why I came up here." Hermione sighed, Y/N wrinkling her eyebrows, puzzled. She couldn't think why else the bushy-haired girl would come up here. "You walked out of the Great Hall without even touching your food," Hermione let out nervously, still not facing the y/h/c haired girl.
Y/N pupils enlarged, she noticed that? Did she see me? Y/N coughed lightly, trying to defuse some tension in the room. "What's the matter with that?"
Hermione picked her head up as she looked at the taller girl, her eyes having an inkling of concern. "Is there anything wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong, just remembered something." Hermione's ears perked up from her response, finally directing her eyes to her direction in curiosity.
"What was that something?" She asked quickly. Y/N made her way up towards the bookshelf sitting behind her bed, pulling out a book from it effortlessly. She flipped through the pages as Hermione watched her actions closely, analyzing her focused expression. Y/N finally stopped at a page giving it to the bushy-haired girl. Hermione grabbed the page as her eyes landed on the words written with ink on the page Y/N opened up to.
It's my last night here before I have to leave my family... They're coming for me searching for me as I write this. If I died you're most likely going to read this. Y/N my sweet girl, I apologize for not being able to raise you alongside your mother. Your mother knew the dangers of being with me and getting herself involved with my family. Everything I've done, I did to protect her. I didn't want you to think your father didn't die without knowing you existed, yes I may not have been able to get to know you however I love you even if you were still in your mother's womb. Please stay by your mother and your older brother, I hope you never come in contact with my side of the family. They're.. horrible people, the only thing I hope you inherit from me is how courageous I am. I need something else to tell --
Hermione looked up at her, bewildered at what she just read. Y/N took the journal out of the shorter girl's grasp, setting herself down the bed next to her. She let out a weary sigh. "I think it's time for me to tell you... about who I really am." She conceded straightforwardly. Hermione was shocked at how straightforward Y/N was about this, she didn't mention anything involving her family very often due to how Y/N would always move onto another topic or how she would leave the area quickly after, she learned to tread lightly on the topics from then on. Hermione nodded hesitantly, deciding it was best for the taller girl to continue speaking.
"I don't know my parents' first names however I know what happened to both of their disappearances. My mother left my brother and I, one year after I was born. My father was being hunted like Sirius Black, he was a part of Voldemort's Army back then until he backed out. And it didn't go well for his family considering they also were a part of Voldemort's Army. My mother on the other hand.. well abandoned me when I was just a year old and when Jace was three. I didn't want anyone to know since they'll start actually treating me like I'm this supervillain type and maybe if I told you, you would see me differently due to Harry being your best friend and all." The Ravenclaw girl rambled out.
Hermione on the other hand is trying to wrap her head around everything she just said. Is she a part of the prophecy too?
