The two stepped out of their house into a place so dazzlingly colorful that Elliott had to stop for a moment and look around him. Dorothy continued to walk ahead with Toto.

There were birds chirping faintly in the background. There were several arrays of flowers, a pond, tiny huts, and a spiraling yellow brick walkway. It was, in short, a colorful magical land where everything is beautiful.

"Toto, Elliott..." Dorothy said. "I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."

Elliott chuckled. "That's for sure, Dorothy."

The boy had caught up to her by this time, as the two finally stopped to look around them in absolute wonder.

Dorothy turned to Elliott. "We must be over the rainbow!" She said with shining eyes and a wide smile.

As she set Toto down on the ground, Elliott, who was looking in the other direction, saw a small colorful bubble floating towards them.

"Dorothy, look!" He said as he pointed to the strange bubble.

Dorothy straightened up and turned around to see what Elliott was pointing at.

As the bubble floated towards the two youths, it got bigger. By the time it was near them, it had grown taller than both of them and had gained a light, milky pink hue. Then, the bubble suddenly disappeared. In its place stood a woman with curly hair, a gorgeous pink and white gown, a pink crown on her head, and a long wand in her hand with a star on one end.

Elliott stared at her in awe.

"Now I know we're not in Kansas." Dorothy said timorously.

The woman approached them. "Are you a good Witch and Warlock or a bad Witch and Warlock?"

Dorothy looked around, before pointing at herself. "Who, me and Elliott?"

The woman nodded.

"Why, I'm not a witch at all." Dorothy replied, surprised. "I'm Dorothy Gale from Kansas."

"And I'm no warlock, ma'am." Elliott said. "My name is Elliott McDonald, I'm also from Kansas."

"Oh." The woman responded, before pointing to Toto with her wand. "Well, is that the witch?"

"Who, Toto?" Dorothy asked, now even more surprised and confused. "Toto's my dog."

The woman laughed. "Oh well, I'm a little muddled. The Munchkins called me because a new Witch and Warlock have just dropped a house on the Wicked Witch of the East, and there's the house, and here you two are, and that's all that's left of the Wicked Witch of the East."

She pointed to the house, and the two youths could see a pair of legs protruding from a space below it. There were shiny red heeled slippers on the feet, and a golden locket with a large red stone embedded in the middle lying right next to the body. Dorothy gasped in shock.

"And so," The woman continued. "What the Munchkins want to know is, are you a Good Witch and Warlock or a Bad Witch and Warlock?"

"But we've already told you," Dorothy said hastily. "We're not a witch and warlock at all!"

"Yeah, aren't witches supposed to be old and ugly?" Elliott asked.

He was startled by a mass of high-pitched giggling, causing him to turn around. "What was that?"

"The Munchkins." The woman answered the boy. "They're laughing because I am a witch. I'm Glinda, the Witch of the North."

Dorothy gasped in surprise. "You are?" She then dropped a half-curtsy. "Oh, I beg your pardon, but I've never heard of a beautiful witch before."

Glinda smiled. "Only bad witches are ugly. The Munchkins are happy because you have freed them from the Wicked Witch of the East."

"Oh, but if you please, ma'am, what are Munchkins?" Elliott asked, to be answered by another mass of high-pitched giggling.

"The little people who live in this land." Glinda explained. "It's Munckinland, and you are their national hero and heroine, my dears."

Then she spoke to the Munchkins. "It's all right, you may all come out and thank them."

[Glinda:]
Come out, come out, wherever you are
And meet the young ones who fell high from a star
They fell from the sky, they fell very far
And Kansas, they say, is the name of the star

[Munchkins:]
Kansas, they say, is the name of the star

[Glinda:]
They bring you good news, or haven't you heard?
When they fell out of Kansas, a miracle occurred

[Dorothy:]
It really was no miracle, what happened was just this
The wind began to switch, the house to pitch
And suddenly the hinges started to unhitch

[Elliott:]
Just then the witch, to satisfy an itch
Went flying on her broomstick thumbing for a hitch

[Munchkin Man:]
And oh, what happened then was rich!

[Munchkins:]
The house began to pitch, the kitchen took a slitch
It landed on the wicked witch in the middle of a ditch
Which was not a healthy si-tu-a-tion for the wicked witch!
The house began to pitch, the kitchen took a slitch
It landed on the wicked witch in the middle of a ditch
Which was not a healthy si-tu-a-tion for the wicked witch
Who began to twitch, and was reduced, to just a stitch
Of what was once the wicked witch!

A miniature carriage came down along with the Munchkin soldiers. Dorothy smiled as she and Elliott came to its side.

[Munchkin 1:]
We thank you very sweetly
For doing it so neatly!

[Munchkin 2:]
You killed her so completely
That we thank you very sweetly!

"Let the joyous news be spread! The Wicked Old Witch at last is dead!" Glinda said, arms spread wide. The Munchkins all cheered, and a celebration then ensued.

Ding dong, the Witch is dead
Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding dong, the Wicked Witch is dead
Wake up you sleepyhead, rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead
She's gone where the goblins go
Below, below, below
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing, and ring the bells out
Ding dong's the merry-o, sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead!

The Munchkin trumpeters played a fanfare as the Mayor came out along with the Barrister. Dorothy and Elliott came out of the carriage as Dorothy took the Mayor's hand.

[Mayor:]
As mayor of the Munchkin City
In the county of the land of Oz
I welcome you most regally

[Barrister:]
But we've got to verify it legally
To see

[Mayor:]
To see

[Barrister:]
If she

[Mayor:]
If she

[Barrister:]
Is morally, ethically

[Munchkin 1:]
Spiritually, physically

[Munchkin 2:]
Positively, absolutely

[Munchkin Men:]
Undeniably and reliably dead!

Glinda smiled as she looked on. Then, the Coroner walked up to the Mayor while holding a certificate in one hand.

[Coroner:]
As Coroner, I must aver
I thoroughly examined her
And she's not only merely dead
She's really, most sincerely dead

[Mayor:]
Then this is a day of independence

For all the Munchkins and their descendants

[Barrister:]
If any

[Mayor:]
Yes, let the joyous news be spread
The wicked Old Witch at last is dead!

[All Munchkins:]
Ding dong, the Witch is dead
Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding dong, the Wicked Witch is dead
Wake up you sleepyhead, rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead
She's gone where the goblins go
Below, below, below
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing, and ring the bells out
Ding dong's the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead!

The Munchkin soldiers marched as the Munchkin citizens all gathered around.

Then a trio of female Munchkins dressed in pink dresses came out to perform and sing for Dorothy and Elliott as they watched.

We represent the Lullaby League
The Lullaby League, the Lullaby League
And in the name of the Lullaby League
We wish to welcome you to Munchkinland

Then a trio of male tap dancing Munchkins came out to perform. Elliott noticed the leader was holding a lollipop, which he found amusing and adorable.

We represent the Lollipop Guild
The Lollipop Guild, the Lollipop Guild
And in the name of the Lollipop Guild
We wish to welcome you to Munchkinland

Then, all the Munchkins joined in.

We welcome you to Munchkinland
Tra la la la la la, la la la, la la la
Tra la la la la, la, la

[Munchkin 1:]
From now on you'll be history

[Munchkin 2:]
You'll be his...

[Munchkin 3:]
You'll be his...

[Munchkin 4:]
You'll be history

[Munchkin 1:]
And we will glorify your names
You will be a bust...

[Munchkin 2:]
Be a bust...

[Munchkin 3:]
Be a bust...

[Munchkin Men:]
In the hall of fame!

They all joined in for the finale as they escorted Dorothy and Elliott back to Glinda.

[All:]
Tra la la la la, la la la, la la la
Tra la la la la, la, la
Tra la la la la, la la la, la la la
Tra la la la la, la

The Munchkins cheered, but were abruptly cut short by a burst of red smoke. They all scurried away in a panic, running pell-mell through the courtyard to safety. Dorothy and Elliott hurried to stand beside Glinda, Dorothy clutching tightly to Toto, while Elliott held Dorothy in his own arms.

Out of the red smoke there appeared a woman with green skin wearing a black dress, black cloak, and a black pointed hat. She held a broomstick in one hand.

It was the Wicked Witch of the West.

"I thought you said she was dead." Dorothy said to Glinda in a scared, shaky voice.

"That was her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East." Glinda explained. "This is the Wicked Witch of the West, and she's worse than the other one was."

"Who killed my sister?" The Wicked Witch asked in a shrill, evil-sounding voice. "Who killed the Witch of the East?"

She pointed a finger at the two. "Was it you?"

Dorothy and Elliott both frantically shook their heads.

"No, no, I can assure you it was a complete accident!" Elliott defended.

"We didn't mean to kill anybody!" Dorothy added.

"Well, my little pretties, I can cause accidents too!" The Witch replied.

"Aren't you forgetting the ruby slippers and the ruby locket?" Glinda asked the green-skinned woman.

"The slippers and locket. Yes!" The Witch realized, and she walked back to the house to retrieve them.

However, just as she was about to do so, both the slippers and the locket vanished instantly, and the feet retracted underneath the house, out of sight.

The Witch gasped. "They're gone! The ruby slippers! The ruby locket!" She turned back towards the trio with an angry look. "What have you done to them? Give them back to me or I'll–"

"It's too late!" Glinda interrupted her. "There they are, and there they'll stay."

Dorothy and Elliott both looked down to see that the ruby slippers were transferred to Dorothy's feet, and the ruby locket was fastened tightly around Elliott's neck. The two gasped in surprise.

"Give me back my slippers and that locket!" The Wicked Witch of the West demanded. "I'm the only one that knows how to use them. They're no use to you. Give them back to me. Give them back!"

Glinda leaned closer to whisper to the two adolescents. "Keep tight inside of them, and keep that locket around your neck. Their magic must be very powerful, or she wouldn't want them so badly."

Dorothy and Elliott both nodded in understanding and acknowledgement.

"You stay out of this, Glinda, or I'll fix you as well!" The Witch threatened.

"Oh, rubbish!" Glinda laughed. "You have no power here! Begone, before somebody drops a house on you too!"

At that moment, the Witch flinched and looked up at the sky quickly, as though expecting to suffer the same fate as her sister at any given moment. Glinda barred Dorothy and Elliott from moving by placing her wand across both of their chests lightly, yet protectively.

"Very well." The Witch finally spoke. "I'll bide my time." Then she pointed a finger at the two kids again. "And as for you, my fine little ones, it's true I can't attend to you here as I'd like. But just try to stay out of my way! Just try! I'll get you, my pretties, and your little dog too!"

With that, the Witch cackled evilly, before departing in yet another cloud of red smoke and a burst of flame.
