Lorna

Ugh, the first day of school. My alarm clock blares its annoying tune, and I groan, hitting the snooze button with all the strength I can muster. Why does school have to start so early? Rolling over, I bury my head under my pillow, trying to escape the impending doom of waking up.

My phone, however, has other plans. It's hopping around on my bedside table with its annoying ringtone. I snatch it up, squinting at the screen. Sarah's face beams at me from the caller ID. I swipe to answer.

"Hey, sleepyhead! You better get your butt out of bed or we're going to be late for the first day!" Sarah's voice rings through the phone, and I can practically see her waving her arms around in exaggerated panic.

I groan again, "Give me ten minutes, will you? Meet me in the kitchen."

Heather, my whirlwind of a mother, lets Sarah in. She's always been a force of nature, especially in the mornings.

In 10 minutes, I rush down the stairs, hoping to at least grab a banana before we're out the door. "Hey, Mom," I manage to say in between bites, "I'll catch you later. Don't worry, I'll eat something at school."

My mom raises an eyebrow, giving me a skeptical look. "You better! You can't survive on just a banana, you know."

I give her a quick peck on the cheek, my backpack slung over one shoulder. "Love you, Mom. Gotta dash!"

Sarah's already waiting impatiently by the door, tapping her foot. "Fashionably late, remember?" she teases.

I roll my eyes, "Yeah, yeah. Let's go before we become legends on the first day of school for all the wrong reasons."

We rush down the street, Sarah's laughter trailing behind us. "You and your sense of humor, Lorna. It's a wonder you survived the summer without school to keep you entertained."

I chuckle, "Hey, the summer might have been dull if it weren't for my gripping novels and riveting Netflix marathons."

Sarah pretends to gasp, clutching her chest dramatically, "Oh, the thrill of it all!"

As we approach the school building, Sarah leans in with a sly grin. "Ready for another year in this shit hole..

I give her a wink, "Absolutely! Who knows, maybe this year I'll discover a hidden talent for interpretive dance during chemistry class."

Sarah bursts out laughing, "Oh, please, Lorna, I'll be your first fan!"

We finally reach the bustling halls of the school, our laughter blending with the excited chatter of students. As I step through the doors, I can't help but feel a surge of anticipation. Another year, another chance for hilariously awkward moments and unexpected friendships.

Sarah nudges me, "Look alive, Devine! Let's make this year one for the books."

Definitely ,,we set off into the school, ready to embrace whatever chaos and comedy high school has in store for us.

Entering my first class of the day, English, Sarah has science with Austin, that should be fun, I giggle to myself as I know Austin will torment the life out her ..

I quickly scan the room for an empty seat. Spotting Samia and Kady engaged in conversation, I make my way over to join them, looking forward to some familiar company.

Just as I'm about to join their chat, a sudden grip on my shoulders startles me. I let out an embarrassing yelp and instinctively swat at the intruder. Turning around, I see Connor with a playful grin on his face.

"Connor, seriously? You scared the living daylights out of me!" I scold, trying to catch my breath.

He chuckles, raising his hands apologetically. "My bad, Lorna. Couldn't resist, you looked so focused on the girls.

Rolling my eyes, I can't help but laugh. "Next time, warn me, okay?"

"Deal," he replies with a mock salute.

Settling into the middle row beside Samia and Kady, Samia gives me a hug, hey girl ready for hell she groans, hugging her back, let just hope it flies in grumbling in return,Kady stays put sitting beside her, barely giving me an audible hello, I choose to ignore her, not sure what her problem is with me lately.

Although that Kady for ya she can be moody, a lot !! Well I'm not gonna let her mood swings affect me especially on my first day. Maybe she just not a morning person.. I notice that the room seems to be abuzz with glances and lingering looks directed my way. It's as if my summer transformation hasn't gone unnoticed. I catch the glint of envy in the eyes of some girls, while both admiration and lust radiate from some of the guys.

Connor leans in from behind me,his voice low and teasing, "Looks like you're the center of attention, Lorna. Reece might not be too thrilled about all the eyes on you."

Perplexed, I furrow my brow and retort, "Reece? Why would he care?"

Connor smirks, leaning back in his seat. "Oh, trust me, he cares more than you think."

I shoot him a skeptical glance.. wondering what he meant by that comment..

As the class buzzes with the noise of chattering students and the teacher's attempts to restore order, I can't help but wonder where Reece is. The empty seat beside me remains a mystery, and my curiosity grows. The class seems unusually chaotic, first day of the school year I suppose, everyone playing catch-up with each other. I join the chorus of students who are still chattering away.

Just as the teacher's voice rises above the din, commanding attention, the classroom door swings open. All heads turn toward the entrance, and the noise instantly diminishes. There he is, Reece, striding in with an air of confidence that commands the attention of everyone present.

The room seems to hold its breath for a moment before erupting into a flurry of whispers and sideways glances. Girls can't help but ogle him, their eyes practically trailing after him as he moves through the room. Some even attempt to strike up a conversation, sending flirty smiles his way.

Reece, however, remains unfazed by the attention he's receiving. His focus is unwavering as he navigates the sea of adoration, making his way toward the empty seat beside me. My heart races as he draws nearer, and I can practically feel the collective envy from the girls whose hopeful glances he's ignored.

He finally reaches his destination, sliding into the chair next to me, and the disappointed expressions from the girls around us are hard to miss. I can't help but bite back a grin at the sight of their thwarted efforts.

Reece's presence beside me feels electrifying, and I try to focus on the teacher's words despite the lingering glances and hushed whispers that follow him. As the lesson continues, I steal a sidelong glance at Reece, his concentration solely on the material being discussed. It's as if he's completely unaware of the attention he's drawn, and a sense of amusement settles over me.

The dynamics of the classroom have certainly shifted, and I can't help but wonder what lies beneath this newfound interest in Reece. It seems like my best friend is still the subject of every girls  daydreams and fantasies.

As I exchange a smile with Reece, my heart skips a beat, feeling a familiar connection between us. But that fleeting moment of warmth quickly dissipates when I notice a sly and mischievous smirk forming on his lips. My eyebrows knit together in confusion, wondering why he's looking at me like that.

I can't help but feel a pang of anxiety, a prickling feeling at the back of my mind. Did he somehow find out about the dream I had last night? I can feel the heat rising to my cheeks, a telltale sign of the embarrassment washing over me. Please don't let him know, I silently plead with the universe.

My smile fades as my thoughts race, and I shift my gaze away from his, focusing on my notebook as if it holds all the answers. The memory of that explicit dream replays in my mind, the sensation of his touch, his voice, his proximity—my face flames up, feeling as if it's on fire.

Suddenly, his chuckle reaches my ears, and my heart sinks a little further. Did he figure it out? Is he laughing at me? I muster the courage to glance at him again, only to find him still wearing that smirk, his eyes glinting with something that's equal parts amusement and... what? Knowing?

My frown deepens, and I can't help myself. "What's so funny?" I blurt out, my tone a mix of curiosity and mild frustration. My mind races, trying to come up with a plausible explanation for his behavior that doesn't involve revealing the mortifying content of my dream.

Reece's smirk softens into a more casual smile, and he shrugs nonchalantly. "Oh, just remembered something, that's all," he replies, his voice casual and carefree.

I narrow my eyes at him, sensing there's more to this than he's letting on. "Remembered what?" I press, my curiosity getting the better of me.

He shakes his head, dismissing it. "Nah, it's nothing. Just some random thought," he insists, his gaze drifting away from mine as if the matter is settled.

I'm not entirely convinced, but I let it go for now. My heart rate gradually returns to normal, and I force a smile, though a hint of skepticism lingers. "Alright then," I reply, trying to sound nonchalant myself.

But deep down, I can't shake the feeling that there's more to that smirk than meets the eye. I'll have to stay on guard around Reece; it seems he's not above a little teasing, even if he claims it's all in good fun.

The bell rings, signaling the end of our first period. The classroom quickly comes to life with the sound of chairs scraping against the floor and students gathering their belongings. Amid the chaos, the teacher's voice urges us to review what we've learned for an upcoming test. I roll my eyes; it's only the first day, and already we're being warned about a test.

As I navigate my way towards the exit, Reece falls into step beside me. His presence sends a surge of excitement through me, though I try my best to keep my composure. "What's your next class?" he asks, and I check my schedule.

"Geography," I reply with a small smile.

I spot Connor nearby, a mischievous smirk on his face as he watches us. Reece shoots him a warning glare, and I arch an eyebrow, intrigued by their unspoken interaction. Connor simply chuckles and winks at Reece, seemingly unphased by it..

After saying goodbye to my friends and promising to catch up during the morning break, I turn to Reece. "See you at lunch?" I inquire, a playful glint in my eyes.

"Yup , he responds, confidence in his voice. In or out today I question?  "Out!" Connor chimes in at the same time.

Their synchronized response catches me off guard, and I can't help but burst into laughter. "Well, that settles it then," I chuckle, thoroughly amused by their simultaneous agreement.

Both chuckling at their Synchronised answer, Connor seizes the opportunity. "Ready to head to class with me?" he teases, a playful smirk dancing on his lips. I nod, see at lunch so speaking to Reece. Yeh see you then ..

As we start walking away, the subtle tension between Reece and Connor goes unnoticed by me. Reece's clenched jaw and Connor's triumphant expression remain hidden from my view, and I'm blissfully unaware of the playful rivalry unfolding behind me.

Little do I know, this school year holds more surprises than I could have imagined. With shifting dynamics and unexpected twists, it seems that each day may bring something new. As we step into our next class, I brace myself for whatever the year has in store, excited and curious to see where this journey will lead.

Ok I'm feeling generous today, so here's another chapter up. Hope you enjoy . Feel free to leave comments. 🥰
