It All Began With A...
Chapter Twenty
We've Figured It Out! (Part One)
It took a while until we finally arrived back at the mansion, Taiwan, who had gotten an elderly woman's number from one of the stores was ranting the entire ride home about how the store did not one bit live up to it's name.
I walked up the stairs to go watch television and just chill with Canada while America went to go check on the progress that England and Norway was making. I entered the living room to see a new tennis table in the corner of the room and the Baltic around it playing. Emma sat on a chair beside Estonia as Latvia and Lithuania were playing against each other.
"Oh, hey guys!" Emma waved as she drank the rest of her soda pop.
"Sup!" I waved as I walked over and jumped on the couch. Canada walked around the couch and sat down beside his polar bear, Kumajirou.
"Nothing much, just waiting to see who I'm going to play against." She replied, her eyes never leaving the tennis table.
I was about to open my mouth to speak when I heard someone calling out for Lithuania.
"Liet! Like, where are you?" A green eyed blonde entered the room, no silly, not England!
"P-Poland?!" Lithuania exclaimed as he looked over at Poland and dropped the little tennis racket, letting Latvia hit the ball and hit Lithuania's cheek, "Ack!" He shouted, falling down.
"O-Oh, sorry...but, I WON!" He exclaimed.
Poland let out a sigh, he walked over, "Like, I totally need your help, Liet!" He exclaimed, upset.
"What's wrong?" Lithuania asked, standing up and looking at the glittery Poland who stood casually in a sparkly pink dress.
"Look at this!" Poland whined, unfolding a cut up shirt and laying it on the tennis table, "W-What did you do?" Lithuania asked, running his fingers through the strands of the shredded shirt.
"I don't know what I did wrong, Liet! Like, I totally swear that I like did EVERYTHING that the DIY said to do!" Poland viciously waved his arms around at the abomination of a shirt.
"I-I..." Lithuania stuttered.
As Poland continued to cry out and wave his arms, multiple glitter bottles in different colours fell out of the pocket on the dress.
Emma looked down at them for a moment before she looked over at Poland, "So ugh, why do you have all of those?"
"Huh?" Poland asked, not yet noticing the bottles of glitter, "Oh!"
Lithuania knelt down to help Poland pick them up before Poland proudly spoke, "Whenever I see someone's looking down, I just pour like a hand full of this stuff on them and then at least their sad face disappears as they angrily chase me!" He laughed proudly.
Everyone remained silent as he then continued with a laugh, "Haha, I carry around so much glitter that the humans call me Poland in the hood now."
"Ah, Poland..." Lithuania sighed as he handed all the glitter bottles back to Poland who put them all back into his dress pockets.
"Now, what exactly were you trying to accomplish here?" He asked, looking at the shredded shirt.
"Well, like, that American can totally do this kind of stuff, like, have you seen that American flag he painted on one of his shirts? It was totally radical and like, he told me to go to pinterest to check it out so I was like, 'Kay, whatever,' you know, playing it off as cool. So like, I played around on that site when I saw this link to a video that took me to youtube and so like, I watched the video and it taught me how to make a shirt!" He motioned to the shredded shirt.
"And so the lady in the video was all like, 'yay! This is an EASY way to up-cycle your wardrobe!' So I was like, hey, if this girl who has been doing these kinds of things since forever can do it easy-peasy, how hard can it be if I do it for the first time after watching a six minute video of her doing it?" He finished.
Lithuania let out a sigh, "Next time, please call me for help before you ruin one of your shirts, Poland."
Poland smiled as he pet Lithuania's head, "Oh silly, that's your shirt! What? You think my clothes need to be upgraded? Look at me, I'm fabulous as I am!" He grinned as he spun around, letting the glitter on his dress fly in all directions in the room.
As Poland stopped his gracious spinning, he put his hand on his hip, "Say though, why is it that America could do it, but I couldn't?" He pouted.
"Well that's because amer-I-CAN!" America exclaimed loudly, followed by an obnoxious laughter as he entered the living room. He headed towards the couch and jumped on it just as I had done earlier. He sat right beside me and his arm casually rested around my shoulder. I felt myself blush as he kept his cool look.
"Like, Liet, you gotta help me out now." Poland said as he pointed to the shirt again.
Lithuania frowned slightly as he turned towards the other Baltics, "Guys, if I'm going down, I'm taking the both of you with me."
"What?" "Why do you hate us so much?" They both cried out.
I looked over to see Meghan walking down the hall and past the hallway as Lithuania spoke, "Come on Latvia, Estonia, you guys can't make me go alone." He said.
"Ah, yes we can!" Lavia blurted out, "We have to finish this match against Emma!" Meghan, who was in the hall froze as she heard Latvia speak, she turned back and poked her head into the room.
"Yeah and we will be needing a referee." Emma spoke, "Latvia's going against me since he beat you and Estonia is going to be the referee." Latvia cheered for a moment until he realised he was going up against her.
"Works for me, like, later!~" Poland waved as he pulled Lithuania's hand and the two ran out with the shredded shirt and glitter.
"Alright then kid, are you ready?" Emma asked, picking up the small tennis paddle.
"U-Ugm!" He stuttered only to have Meghan interrupt, "Wait, what did you say your name was?" She asked, walking further into the room. I squinted, she seemed nervous.
"Oh me? I'm Latvia, and that's Estonia, you probably haven't met us yet!" Latvia smiled, extending his hand towards her.
"You're Latvia?" She asked, stunned, as they nodded she gave a nod then turned around and just walked out.
"Is she okay?" Latvia asked, turning towards Emma who was smirking as she hit the small tennis ball, sending it flying at Latvia, she exclaimed, "Heads up!"
I stood up, stretching my arms out, "Hey I'm gonna be right back." I said to America and Canada.
"Sure, where are you headed?" He asked, about to stand. I stopped him, causing him to fall back onto the couch, "I'm just going to talk to Meghan, she looked somewhat shocked, I'll be quick." I smiled at him.
He stared at me for a moment before finally smiling, "Fine, we'll be here." He said, relaxing back against the couch.
I smiled as I made my way out of the living room, I headed down the hall towards Meghan's room, she was pacing around as she flipped through a book she had in her hands. Her green eyes widened as she looked up at me, "H-Hey, knock first!" She frowned.
I rolled my eyes as I closed the door behind me, "Dude, what's up?" I asked, staring her down, "And what is that book?" I wondered as she set it down on the desk beside a bag full of what looked like glass bottles.
She let out a sigh as she stared at the page in the book, I looked at it to see a perfume bottle drawing, "This is a potion that can only work with the right spell and it's called the 'Forget-me-not,' you know, like the flower. At least that's what I think it's called, I forgot..."
She flipped the pages in the book some more, "And this one here is another potion that can you put in small bags, when you cast the spell on them, they work as grenades." She stared at the book for a moment before turning towards me, "C-Can you keep a secret?" She asked.
"No."
She frowned, "Fucking sympathise with me right now, listen, I met this guy earlier who told me his name was Latvia and he was blonde and had glasses and his name was Flavio and-" I cut her off there.
"Flavio? What happened?"
"He told me that if I gave him the fire spell from this black magic book, he would give me all the potions that I needed just for that spell, and me, thinking he's one of the regular countries, I gave it to him... But now I have this really bad feeling, please help me fix this." She begged.
I stared at her, how did Flavio even manage to get close enough to make that trade if she was with Taiwan the entire time? I thought back to the old lady that Taiwan was shouting at in the car and realised.
"I think we should tell the others, they'll know what to do." I stated, taking a step back towards the door. Immediately after saying that, she pulled me back by my arm, "No, wait, help me out here and we can make these potions then we can help out more, think about it, the spot light can be mine then! Oh, I mean ours!" She smiled, motioning to the book.
I frowned as I yanked my arm away from her, "Stop it, now whether you come with me or not, I'm going to warn that now Flavio knows how to cast fire and how we should probably keep an eye out for him. Just think of everyone else, not just your image, Meg." I spoke.
She gritted her teeth as she looked around the room nervously. I approached the door and just as my hand turned the knob, I suddenly felt unbearably tired... Ah, how did I not see this coming?
--- Third Person P.O.V. ---
Meghan, casting the sleep spell on _____, she pulled her into the walk in closet, she then looked around seeing nothing but hangers and a few articles of clothing. Panicked, she pulled down a shirt and tied _____'s hands together against the bars where the hangers hung.
_____, still unconscious, remained motionless as Meghan closed the door and pushed a chair against the knob of the door.
"Now... I-I-I can fix this!" Meghan laughed as she approached the desk. She pulled the potions out of the bag by the bunch and turned towards her book, "Just mix and pour the given amounts and then it'll be done." She spoke under her breath.
---
"What? Ah, there's Norway you're awake!" Denmark laughed as Norway rubbed his eye sheepishly with a yawn, "Shh.. How long was I asleep?" He asked. His hair was slightly damp and he was wearing his usual navy blue outfit.
"Like, an entire day, what did you dream of?" New Zealand replied as he sat at the bar table with the other Nordics and Australia. Amber sat at the children's table with Maddie and the other child nations.
"Dream?" Norway asked, "It was more of a nightmare, that's why I'm awake now.." He said a bit worried.
Denmark, slightly unsettled, shifted in his seat as he poured Norway some lemonade, "What was it about?" He asked as Norway sat by him and took the drink.
"It was strange, I can't remember most of it... I just remember seeing so much red and fire... And I was really confused when I woke up sweating... So after I took a shower, I realised that I at least knew why I was seeing the red." He said emotionless.
"You took a shower without me?" Denmark laughed, trying to boost his mood. He stopped laughing as Norway was showing no signs of happiness, not even a snarky remark.
"Why did you?" Finland asked, rudely putting his elbows on the counter. Sweden silently pushed his elbows off of where they don't belong.
"I'm a murderer..." Norway replied, gritting the glass in his hands.
Everyone fell silent, even the children stopped colouring as they tried to listen into their conversation.
"I didn't have to kill Ma..Marie... I could have cast a time freezing spell or something else, I don't know, but I know that I didn't have to do that." He said, gritting his teeth now.
Denmark quickly wrapped his arm around Norway, giving him a smile, "Come on, Norway, you did what you had to do..." Norway still said nothing causing Denmark's look to slightly darken, "Look, kid..." He removed his arm, causing Norway to look over at him.
"In life, you won't always do things that you feel are right and sometimes you might even fuck up as bad as you think you did." He poured himself some more beer as everyone stared at him, shocked for saying what he just did, still, they remained silent.
"However.." He took a sip of his beer and looked over at Norway, "Even if you keep thinking like that, know that what you've done is done and you can't change that... You can't change the fact that you saved ____ and Belgium either. What you did was right, don't beat yourself up over that. Got it?" He smiled.
Norway remained quiet but nodded, "I guess that I've had my time out then, I should really go help England with the portal spell. We just need to practice it once. Once we can open it, we will be able to send them home and everything will be okay." He spoke, gulping down the orange juice.
"By the way... Pink is not your colour... Idiot." Norway said, turning towards Denmark.
"What? Denmark my words, Norway, I will make my outfit better for the concert. I will Sweden it up so much that you will just stop and stare." He laughed.
Norway let out a sigh, "I'm so Finnish with you.." He said as he walked out.
"WOO! Puns!" Amber laughed, falling off of the plastic IKEA chair Sweden brought down for their table. She jumped up and followed after him while the others continued as if it was normal. Oh wait, it was normal.
-- A Few Hours Later --
"We did it... We did it!!" England said, excitedly.
Norway mustered up a smile, this excitement couldn't be contained, "Great, now we just have to get the six together!" He spoke as he turned towards the fanboying England.
"Ah, worry not my sweeties, my crew is on it." Amber smiled as she sent a wink towards England who didn't see it as he continued cheering.
"Notice me Senpai.." Amber muttered as she stared at him.
"Oh, sorry, did you say something?" England asked as he stopped. Amber freaked out as she ran towards the door, "AGh! You noticed me too hard, Senpai!" She exclaimed, running into the door and falling back.
"Ugh... You forgot your glasses..." England spoke as he pointed to the glasses she had on the corner of the desk.
---
"Hey, Meghan? You in there?" Amber asked, knocking on the door to Meghan's room.
"Y-Yeah!" She blurted back as she stuffed the potions into the satchel she had and approached the door, "What's up?" She smiled, more excited than nervous about the fact that ____ was still in the closet.
"Come downstairs, quick, and have you seen ____ around?" Amber asked, poking her head into the room.
"Yeah, she went to the bathroom, I'll go get her!" Meghan smiled back convincingly.
"Alrightie, see you down in the living room!" Amber smiled, running down the stairs and tripping down the stairs, "OH fuck!" She shouted as she rolled down the multiple stair steps. ( =_= )
"I'll go see what's going on down there and I'll come back for you later!" Meghan smiled as she turned towards the closet. She turned the lights off in the room and closed the door behind her as she ran out and walked down the stairs like one is supposed to, get your life together dammit, Amber.
She turned to enter the living room where there were quite a few spectators and five of the six girls.
"We are finally able to open the portal!" England explained as he turned towards Norway, "It turns out all that I needed was some sleep in order to regain my energy." He spoke.
America looked over at Meghan who stood alone and quite jumpy about this. He frowned slightly, where was ____ at?
"I'm gonna get some birthday cake to celebrate the shit outta this!" America cheered.
"Um.. okay.." England replied as his phone buzzed in his pocked, he looked down to check it and gasped, "Oh god, I've just lost thirteen followers!" He exclaimed.
"England, focus." Norway scolded.
"R-Right..." England replied.
America made his way out of the room only to realise that Meghan was watching him. There was a staircase on the other side of the mansion that lead to that hall, it would just take a few more minutes. As he ran down the stairs, he felt the air getting thick. Maybe it was just him being out of shape or something. His eyes began to water as he made his way to the other staircase. As he ran up, the air slightly became more breathable and as he wiped his eyes, they didn't seem to water again.
"Hey, doesn't it smell like something is burning?" Maddie giggled, "What could be burning now? Scones? Nah, I'm sure England didn't cook today. Umm.. Pancakes? Nahh.. They don't smell like that.
"What do you mean, Maddie?" Jaden asked as she averted her gaze from Norway and England to Maddie.
"I mean that the house is on fire, you idiot." Maddie frowned as she pointed outside of the living room to where dark grey smoke could be seen rising.
Meghan's stomach turned as Maddie pointed that out, fire...
"God... Everyone, follow us and pull your shirt over your nose and mouth, come on and stay close." England said, panicked.
Outside in the halls, nations were panicking as they all looked for an escape out. Some jumped out of the windows in their rooms, falling a short height while a few others ran upstairs to warn everyone else.
England and Norway walked in front of the group as they began casting spells together to help the fire die down, other nations followed behind them, making it outside safely.
"Wait, where's _____ and America?" Maddie asked, looking around.
"They're still inside!" Amber said, about to charge in to help, only to be pulled back by Norway, "Stay here, I'm sure they're out here.
"Well I'm not taking that chance." England said, pulling his shirt over his nose and mouth and looking up at the burning building. The first floor was now entirely unacceptable from the outside.
"Are all the Asian nations here?" Austria asked, taking roll call on one side while Hungary ran around asking for all the European nations. "All you idiots know where you're supposed to go when there's a fire, now get in that line!" Belarus shouted as she waved her knife around, sending the nations running to their lines.
"Dammit! How did this happen?" Denmark asked, running up to Norway who was standing with the children nations and five of the six.
Norway kept his gaze on the burning mansion, "This was what my nightmare was..." He realised as beads of sweat slowly began to run down the side of his head.
-
"Run, guys, there's a fire!" Finland shouted, waving his arms around. The nations on the third floor made quite a loud noise as they all tried to get out as quickly as possible. All this sound and the suddenly crowded hall were all a bother for America as he rushed to get to Meghan's room.
___ said that she was going to talk to Meghan and now she was missing.
He finally approached the door and opened it only to find it locked. He frowned as he put his ear against the door to listen, as he did so many of the nations in the hall were finally making their way down.
Inside, there was a quiet muffled drum sound. America took a step away from the door and raised his leg, kicking the frame of his door and sending it flying open.
"_____?" He called out as he flicked the light on.
He looked around the room, panicked then saw the suspicious chair in front of the closet door.
He ran towards it, tossing the poor chair to the side then opened the door to see _____ kicking a drum that sat in the closet. Her hands were tied together and she looked tired, but alert. As America quickly made his way towards her, she finally stopped kicking and closed her eyes.
He reached up, freeing her hands then lifted her into his arms, "Alright then, ____, let's get out of here." America said as she laid in his arms with her eyes closed.
He made his way out of the room only to fall to his knees as there was a loud explosion from the bottom level, the house shook, causing him to lose his balance and fall to his knees.
He could see the shadow of the flames as they found their way to the third floor.
There was no where to run now, all the escapes were useless and the window in Meghan's room didn't open enough for the two to fit through.
"D-Don't worry, ____... I-I'm a hero, I can find a way out of here no problemo!" He smiled, kissing her forehead gently...
Outside, everyone could only watch as there was an explosion on the first floor, causing the support on that floor to crumble and the house to shift.
"The only nations that I didn't mark down on the roll call aren't here except for America.." Austria said, pointing to the clip board with the nations.
"Damn.." Denmark spoke, finishing the rest of the beer in his glass.
"And the only one of us not here is... ____..." Jaden said gently.
The vicious flames continued to burn as everyone watched in both sadness, disbelief, and anger.
All except for Meghan, who felt nothing but guilt as the sirens on fire trucks began to echo around her...
