Tw: slight smut
They woke up early to the sound of Johnny repeatedly calling Robby. He groaned, burying his face deeper into the pillow, wanting nothing more than to stay wrapped in the warmth of Skye's presence.
After the third call, Skye nudged him. "Just answer it already."
Still half-asleep, Robby grabbed his phone and answered. "What's the matter? It's six in the morning."
Johnny's voice came through, way too awake for this hour. "You in for a little father-son trip?"
Robby hesitated. Last night, he had noticed something was off with Skye. Even though she had won, she wasn't acting like it. She seemed distant, lost in thought. He hadn't pushed her on it then, but the idea of leaving her behind with whatever she was dealing with didn't sit right.
"I can't," Robby said simply.
Skye, confused, pushed his shoulder lightly, wordlessly asking why.
"Come on, Robby. It's gonna be fun. We're heading to Mexico," Johnny said.
"Mexico?" Robby repeated, suddenly more awake.
"Yeah," Johnny confirmed, offering no further explanation.
An idea formed in Robby's mind. "Count me in...but only if Skye comes with us."
"Skye?" Johnny sounded unimpressed. "Robby, this is supposed to be a father-son trip."
"Then I guess I'm not going," Robby said firmly.
There was a pause before Johnny sighed. "Fine. I'll pick you guys up in an hour. You better be ready."
The line went dead.
Skye sat up, frowning. "Why did you say I should come? This could've been a really good bonding experience. I don't want to get in the way of that."
"Skye, trust me. I feel better with you around. If things get intense, you're the only one who can keep me grounded. Leaving you here isn't an option." He took her hand, squeezing it.
Skye exhaled, then smiled. "Shit, then I better pack fast."
Robby let out a chuckle as she hopped out of bed, already moving.
A knock on the door.
"Shit, I'm not done packing!" Skye's voice echoed through the apartment.
Robby chuckled, shaking his head as he opened the door. Johnny stood there, taking in the sight of the apartment with raised brows.
"Wow, so this is where you've been staying all along. Guess you like it here," Johnny said, glancing around.
"Yeah, I really do," Robby replied with a small smile.
Outside, Johnny and Robby stuffed their bags into the van. Just as they finished, Skye stepped out, looking effortlessly stunning. She was definitely dressed for warm weather, and her outfit hugged her figure perfectly. Robby couldn't help but stare.
Johnny, noticing, rolled his eyes. "Are you serious? We're only going for a few days, and you need three bags?"
Skye sneered back, crossing her arms. "Yeah, so what? One of us has to look good."
Johnny scoffed. "Two. I'm only taking two bags."
Skye nodded smugly. Meanwhile, Robby finally snapped out of his daze, letting out a laugh.
Skye walked up to him, cupping his face in her hands before pulling him in for a strong, lingering kiss. When she pulled away, Robby managed to stammer, "You look... uhm... very hot."
Skye smirked, satisfied.
Once they were settled in the van, Robby took the passenger seat while Johnny drove. Skye sat in the back, already eyeing the mess around her.
"Watch out for beer bottles," Johnny warned. "There could be a few."
Skye sneered, kicking one aside. "A few? Are you kidding?"
As they hit the highway, Johnny reached for the radio, blasting an old rock song. Skye groaned dramatically from the backseat.
"Oh, great. A road trip filled with ancient music," she said, crossing her arms.
Johnny scoffed. "Ancient? You should be honored to have this blasting in your ears."
Skye raised an eyebrow. "Honored? I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard."
Robby smirked, shaking his head. "You better not say that too loud. He might turn this into a five-hour lecture on 'real music.'"
Johnny ignored them, refocusing on the road. "You have no taste. You're probably into that mumble rap garbage."
"Okay, first of all," Skye leaned forward between the front seats. "I have excellent taste. And second, at least our music doesn't sound like a chainsaw having a breakdown."
Johnny waved her off. "You know what? I'm just gonna pretend you didn't say that. Otherwise, I might have to pull over and make you hitchhike."
Skye gasped dramatically. "Robby! Your father is threatening to abandon me in the middle of nowhere."
Robby sighed. "You kinda had that one coming, babe."
Skye playfully smacked his shoulder. "Traitor."
Johnny grinned, clearly enjoying himself. "I like her. She's got fire."
Robby smirked. "Yeah, I noticed."
They drove in comfortable silence for a few minutes before Johnny spoke again. "Alright, let's talk real road trip business. Snacks. What did you guys bring?"
Skye pulled out a bag of candy from her backpack. "I came prepared."
Johnny frowned. "That's not road trip food. Where's the jerky? The chips?"
Skye gasped. "Excuse me, but candy is a staple of road trip cuisine."
"Yeah, if you're eight," Johnny muttered.
Robby chuckled. "She eats like a child, but don't let that fool you. She could probably kill a man with a single punch."
Skye smirked. "Damn right I could."
Johnny gave an approving nod. "That's the kind of woman you wanna keep around, kid."
Robby grinned, reaching for Skye's hand in the backseat, giving it a squeeze. "Yeah, I know."
Skye squeezed back, her teasing demeanor softening for a second. Johnny noticed and cleared his throat. "Alright, enough of that. No making out in my van."
Skye gasped. "Johnny, I would never-"
Johnny shot her a look.
Skye smirked. "Okay, maybe. But still, rude."
Robby just shook his head, laughing. "This is gonna be a long trip."
Johnny leaned over slightly toward Robby, keeping his voice low as he gripped the wheel.
"So you and Skye. Is this, like... official?"
Robby glanced at him, a little amused. "Yeah, it is."
Johnny nodded, like he was trying to play it cool, but Robby could see the small smirk on his face. "Good. She's got attitude, but she's a badass. You need someone who can keep up."
From the backseat, Skye scoffed. "I can hear you, you know."
Johnny glanced at her through the rearview mirror. "Yeah? Then answer this - why the hell are you eavesdropping?"
Skye smirked. "Why the hell are you whispering?"
Johnny opened his mouth, then closed it. Robby chuckled, shaking his head.
After a few hours:
Robby was drifting in and out of sleep, just like Skye, when her phone suddenly rang. The name flashing on the screen sent a chill down her spine. Silver. Her stomach twisted. After everything that happened, she wasn't ready to face him again, let alone talk to him. She had wanted to tell Robby the truth, but there hadn't been a right moment.
She let the call go to voicemail.
Robby turned to the backseat, half-awake. "Who was that?" he asked, his voice laced with curiosity.
Skye forced a casual shrug. "No idea. Wrong number."
Just as Robby was about to turn back around, her phone lit up again. Another call. Silver.
Panic flashed across her face as she subtly tried to angle her phone away, but Robby caught a glimpse of the name. His expression darkened.
"You sure about that?" he asked, concern creeping into his voice.
Skye gave him a tight-lipped smile before answering, trying to sound composed even though her pulse was racing.
"Where the hell are you?" Silver's voice boomed through the speaker, so loud she had to pull the phone away from her ear.
"I'm heading to Mexico," she replied flatly.
"You're supposed to be at training," Silver snapped. "You're the champion. People want to see you. You need to represent us."
Champion. Skye let out a quiet, humorless chuckle, shaking her head.
"I can't just turn around now," she said, keeping her tone firm. "I'll be back in a few days. Better than ever."
A pause. Then, Silver's voice dropped, cold and final. "I hope so." The call ended.
Skye exhaled slowly, gripping her phone tightly.
Robby, now fully awake, had been listening the entire time. Even though he didn't say anything right away, the tension in his posture told her he wasn't letting this go.
Robby sat up straighter, his brows furrowing as he studied Skye. "That was Silver, wasn't it?"
Skye forced a small, dismissive smile. "Yeah, no big deal."
Robby didn't buy it for a second. "No big deal? He sounded pissed."
She let out a breath, leaning her head back against the seat. "He just wanted me at training. Something about being the champion and representing Cobra Kai."
Johnny scoffed from the driver's seat, shaking his head. "Typical. Guy treats you like a damn trophy, not a person."
Robby's jaw clenched. "Of course he did. Silver doesn't care about you, just what you can do for him."
Skye shrugged, pretending like it didn't bother her. "I told him I'll be back in a few days. That's it."
Johnny snorted. "Yeah, like that's gonna sit well with him. Bet he's already plotting some manipulative psycho crap."
Robby reached behind, taking Skye's hand, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. "You sure that's all it is?"
She hesitated for a second, then nodded. "Yeah. I'm fine."
Johnny glanced at them through the rearview mirror. "Look, Skye, I've dealt with assholes like him before. He doesn't just let things go. So if he starts pulling any of his mind games, you better not keep that to yourself."
"She won't," Robby said firmly. "Because I'm not letting him screw with her."
Skye smirked, squeezing Robby's hand. "What, you gonna fight my battles for me?"
Robby smirked back. "No. But I'll have your back. Always."
Johnny rolled his eyes. "Alright, lovebirds, save it for when I'm not trapped in a car with you."
Skye chuckled. But her mind was still racing.
The drive had been quiet for a while. Johnny had switched the radio to some old-school rock, and Robby kept Skye's hand in his, tracing slow circles against her skin. But Skye wasn't focused on any of it. The weight in her chest was getting heavier.
She exhaled sharply. "There's something I need to tell you both."
Johnny shot her a glance through the rearview mirror. "That doesn't sound good."
Robby turned to her, eyes narrowing. "What is it?"
Skye hesitated, her fingers tightening around Robby's hand. "Silver... paid off the ref at the tournament."
Silence.
Then Johnny swore under his breath, gripping the wheel tighter. "Son of a...I knew that snake was up to something."
Robby's grip on her hand turned firm. "Skye..." He shook his head, his voice laced with frustration. "Why didn't you say anything sooner?"
"I didn't know how." Skye's voice was quiet. "I—I wanted to believe I won because I was good enough. But now... I don't even know if I deserved it."
Robby's expression softened, but his frustration hadn't faded. "That's not true. You deserved it, Skye. You're one of the best fighters I know. Silver just didn't want to take any chances."
Johnny let out a breath, trying to contain his anger. "Listen to me, kid. That bastard doesn't get to mess with your head like this. He did the same kinda crap back in the day. But that win? It's yours. Not his. Got it?"
Skye gave a small nod, but Robby could tell she wasn't convinced.
"Wait," Johnny frowned. "Does anyone else know about this?"
"No. Just you two," Skye admitted. "And I need it to stay that way."
Johnny didn't respond right away. She could see the gears turning in his head, debating whether to keep his promise.
"Johnny," she pressed. "Promise me. No telling Daniel. No telling anyone. Please."
Johnny cursed under his breath. "Damn it. Fine. I won't say anything."
Skye let out a relieved breath, but Robby still wasn't satisfied. "You should've told me, Skye." His voice was lower now, his frustration shifting into something more protective. "I don't want you keeping stuff like this from me."
Skye looked down. "I know. I just... I wasn't ready."
Robby exhaled, his hand squeezing hers again. "Just...next time, don't wait. Okay?"
She met his gaze and gave him a small nod.
Johnny sighed. "Alright, glad we got that out. But if Silver tries anything else, I'm not making any damn promises about staying quiet."
Skye chuckled softly. "Fair enough."
The car fell into silence again, but this time, it didn't feel as heavy.
In Mexico:
They quickly pulled over so Johnny could grab some new road trip snacks.
When he returned, he grinned. "Got us some choice supplies for the next leg of our trip."
He pulled out a couple of Cokes. "Mexican Cokes," he said proudly.
Skye chuckled, and Robby raised an eyebrow. "I'm pretty sure here they're just Cokes."
Johnny grinned. "Mexican candy. And I picked up this badass cell phone. It's got 60 minutos on it. That's like 300 American minutes."
Skye couldn't hold back her laughter any longer.
Johnny shot her a look before adding, "And I got you a little something that says Welcome to Mexico."
Skye raised an eyebrow. "Really?"
Johnny grinned. "And gift number two!" He pulled out three FBI shirts, each one with the text "Female Body Inspector." He laughed.
Skye rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I'm not wearing that."
Robby shifted the mood. "So what are we actually doing here? Don't say this is a father-son bonding trip, because we could've done that 500 miles ago." His tone was slightly sad.
Johnny sighed. "Look, it's a father-son bonding thing, but we need to take care of something first. Come on, I'll tell you in the car."
In the car, Johnny finally explained, his tone turning more serious. "I have to find Miguel. He wanted to meet his father, and Carmen's worried. She says he's a dangerous guy. Miguel needs me."
Robby looked shocked, then rolled his eyes. "So you brought me all the way to Mexico and you didn't mention once that we're here to find Miguel?"
Johnny looked over at him, eyes full of regret. "You have every right to be upset."
Robby's anger flared. "How could you not tell me?"
Johnny sighed. "I wasn't bullshitting you, Robby. I want to fix our relationship. But when I found out Miguel was in trouble, I had to do something. Besides, I need your help to find him."
"My help?" Robby let out a sarcastic laugh.
Skye looked between the two. "Do you even have a plan?"
Johnny shot her a look. "Yeah, of course, I do. He's looking for Hector Salazar. I know where the kids get off the bus. That's our first stop."
Skye raised an eyebrow. "And once we get there, what's the plan then?"
Johnny's expression hardened. "We ask around if anyone's seen Miguel."
Robby's face twisted in disbelief. "That's the big plan?"
Johnny leaned forward, clearly irritated. "Of course not. If we come up dry, I check the Mexican phone book."
Skye stared at him, exasperated. "Oh my God. You drove us over a thousand miles just to check a phone book?"
Johnny sneered. "You weren't even supposed to come with us."
Robby snapped, "Hey, don't talk to her like that. We could be home right now. Coming with you was a mistake."
Johnny's voice softened slightly as he glanced at Robby, guilt in his eyes. "Look, when we get to the bus station, if you want to buy a ticket home, you can. I don't want you to go, but..." His words trailed off, his gaze shifting to Robby, not the road.
"Dad, watch out!" Robby suddenly shouted.
The van swerved sharply to avoid crashing into another car, but Johnny veered off the road, driving through a thicket of trees.
As Johnny swerved to avoid the oncoming car, Skye was thrown to the side. She barely had time to brace herself before her head slammed against the window.
"Ow!" she hissed, the sharp impact making her vision spin. She reached up to her forehead, her hand coming away with blood. The sting was immediate, and dizziness followed fast.
"Skye!" Robby shouted, twisting around in his seat to look at her, eyes wide with panic.
Johnny cursed under his breath, his eyes flicking between the road and the chaos in the backseat. "Damn it, Skye. Are you okay?"
Skye swayed slightly, feeling a wave of nausea hit her as the blood continued to trickle down her face. "I'm fine... just... dizzy." She blinked, trying to clear her vision. Her hand pressed against her forehead instinctively.
Robby reached into the glove compartment for napkins, his voice full of urgency. "Hold on, Skye. I'm coming."
Skye answered "I'm fine. Johnny you can keep on driving."
Robby got next to her in the backseat. He gently placed a hand on her arm. "I'll try to stop the bleeding."
"I can't start the car. I need to check on it", Johnny said.
"Damn where is it...", johnny said. Robby was still sitting next to Skye making sure she is alright. "I'm fine...just go help him fix the van so we can be faster on the road again", she gave him a kiss. Robby gave her a nod.
Skye couldn't make out much of the conversation, but she heard Johnny's voice cut through the air: "I'm out here trying to fix my mistakes so I don't have to live with regret."
Johnny paused, and then continued, his voice firmer. "If you're serious about making things right, you can start by helping Miguel."
The car had been fixed, and they continued their journey. Robby sat quietly in the backseat next to Skye for the rest of the ride, his hand occasionally brushing against hers. The silence stretched until they arrived at the bus station.
Johnny handed Robby a wad of cash. "Here. This will cover your bus tickets. And this is for drinks and snacks," he said before turning to leave.
"Where are you going?" Robby asked, his voice tinged with suspicion.
Johnny hesitated for a moment before answering. "Ticket guy thinks he saw Miguel talking to some surfers. I'm gonna ask around." He gave a heavy sigh. "Sorry I dragged you into this, Robby," he said, then turned to Skye. "...You too, Skye." With that, he walked away, disappearing into the crowd.
Skye glanced at Robby, noticing the shift in his expression. "Are you sure you want to leave?" she asked, taking his hand gently.
"I'm not. But—" Robby started to speak, but Skye cut him off.
"That's enough. Then we stay, Robby," she reassured him, her voice soft but firm.
He still looked unsure. "What about your head?" he asked, his concern written all over his face.
"My head is fine. I promise." She smiled at him, trying to ease his worry. Robby's expression softened, and he leaned in for a kiss, but Skye stopped him.
"I think they're trying to rob your dad," she said, pulling him by the hand.
Together, they rushed over to Johnny, just in time to see him kicking someone. Robby's eyes went red with anger as another man lunged at Johnny, trying to choke him. Without thinking, Robby ran toward them, jumping in the air and landing a solid kick on the guy. He hit the ground hard.
Skye didn't hesitate either. As one of the surfers aimed a punch at Johnny, she moved in quickly, dodging the attack and landing a well-placed kick to his side. The guy stumbled, his attempt to strike Johnny failing.
Meanwhile, Robby and Johnny were each taking on two guys. Skye was in the mix too, moving with surprising speed. Johnny was handling his opponents well, knocking them down one by one. Robby wasn't far behind, his movements fluid as he kicked one surfer to the ground. Another tried to sneak up behind him, but Skye saw it and ran toward the guy, sweeping his legs out from under him. He crashed to the floor with a grunt.
Robby flashed her a relieved smile, but it quickly faded when he saw another man charging at Skye from behind. The guy was closer to her than Robby was, and before she could react, he grabbed her waist, sending her crashing to the ground.
Skye was covered in sand, her outfit ruined. The anger rose within her, burning hot. The guy leaned down, ready to strike her, but Skye quickly turned and kicked him hard in the face. Blood poured from his mouth as he stumbled backward, clearly dazed.
Johnny was engaged in his own fight, managing to grab a surfboard from one of the attackers. He kicked it in two, delivering a punch that sent his opponent to the ground.
Just when it seemed like they had everything under control, Skye didn't see the next attack coming. A guy snuck up behind her, tangling his arm around her neck. The pressure on her throat made it harder to breathe, and she struggled, gasping for air. As he turned her around and threw her to the ground again, she was helpless, her world spinning. Robby and Johnny were both occupied, and Skye fought against the weight of the man holding her down.
With her hands scrambling desperately for something, Skye's fingers finally brushed against a glass bottle. She seized it, swinging it up and smashing it against his head. The bottle shattered, glass flying in every direction, some of it cutting across her face. The man fell to the side, blood splattering everywhere, his grip loosening.
Robby's eyes locked onto her immediately. "Shit. Is this your blood? Are you okay?" His voice was frantic as he rushed to her side, gently cradling her head in his palm.
Skye smiled weakly, despite the blood dripping down her face. "No, not my blood. I'm fine. Are you okay, Robby?" she asked, her concern for him taking precedence.
"Yeah, I'm fine, babe," he replied, relief flooding his features. He helped her up, taking her hand in his.
All around them, the surfers were either on the ground or retreating, the fight finally over. They had won.
After cleaning up, they leaned against the car, talking. Skye rested her head on Robby's shoulder, exhausted. She needed him. He kissed her forehead, his touch grounding her.
Johnny let out a sigh. "This trip was a disaster from the jump. You were right, it was a mistake bringing you here."
Robby rolled his eyes. "No, it wasn't. Okay, some of it was. But we got a good story out of it." He smirked.
Skye chuckled, but her attention was on Robby. He smiled at his father – genuinely - and her heart melted. He deserved this.
Johnny cleared his throat. "Alright, your bus will be here soon. You should leave."
Robby straightened up, his voice steady. "We're gonna stay."
Johnny raised a brow. "Oh yeah?"
"You're trying to make things right, and I want to help you."
Johnny glanced between them, then let out a breath, a reluctant smile tugging at his lips. "Guess we all lost our damn minds on this trip."
Skye's expression twisted. "Wait... are we also supposed to sleep in the van?"
Johnny gave her a look like she'd just asked if the sky was blue. "Uh, yeah? No time to waste, we gotta be up early."
Skye blinked, appalled. "Okay, sorry, but absolutely not. Driving around in a van that smells like old beer is one thing. Sleeping in it? I'd rather walk home."
Johnny scoffed. "Oh, come on, it's just one night."
She folded her arms. "And yet, one night too many."
Robby, fighting back a laugh, jumped in. "I think she has a point, Dad." Truthfully, he wanted a real bed too, and time alone with Skye. He missed her, missed the quiet moments with just the two of them.
Johnny threw up his hands. "Fine! But we're taking the first hotel we see. No luxury suite, no room service, no-"
"Yeah, yeah, small and cheap, I got it," Skye smirked. "I'll even let you pick the place."
Johnny muttered under his breath as he climbed into the van, and Robby gave Skye's hand a squeeze, chuckling. This trip might have been a mess, but at least they were in it together.
They pulled up to a small roadside hotel. It wasn't anything fancy, but it looked clean enough.
Skye wasted no time heading inside, approaching the front desk where an older woman in thick glasses greeted her with a bored expression.
"Hi, we'll take two bedrooms, please," Skye said smoothly, already reaching for her wallet.
Before the woman could respond, Johnny stepped up beside her, giving her a sideways glance. "Oh, will we now?" He let out a scoff, then turned to the receptionist. "Actually, I got a question. When exactly did I allow these two to share a bed?"
Robby groaned, running a hand down his face. "Dad-"
Skye smirked, tilting her head. "Oh, I don't know. Probably around the time we started dating and you let us crash at your place or when you decided to drag us across the border together?"
Johnny rolled his eyes. "Yeah, well, that doesn't mean I wanna see it happening."
The receptionist raised a brow, clearly amused by the exchange. "So... two rooms or three?"
Skye turned back to Johnny with a smug look. "Well?"
Johnny sighed dramatically. "Fine. But if I hear one weird noise, I'm throwing a shoe at the wall."
The woman behind the desk snorted before sliding over their room keys.
They headed upstairs, Johnny still muttering under his breath about "kids these days" while Skye and Robby exchanged grins. As soon as they reached their rooms, Skye leaned into Robby's side, whispering, "Think we should test that shoe theory?"
Robby chuckled, wrapping an arm around her. "Let's not push our luck. Or maybe-" Robby shut the door behind them. He was on her. His hands found her waist, pulling her in as his lips crashed against hers, hot and hungry. Skye gasped into the kiss but responded just as eagerly, gripping his shirt to pull him even closer. Their bodies pressed together, heat radiating between them, the tension that had been building for weeks finally snapping.
Robby backed her toward the bed, never breaking the kiss, his hands roaming over her body like he was trying to memorize every inch of her. When the backs of her knees hit the mattress, he lifted her effortlessly, laying her down beneath him. His mouth trailed from her lips to her jaw, down her neck, leaving a path of soft kisses and teasing nips that made her shiver.
Her hands worked at his shirt, tugging it over his head before running down his toned chest. He groaned when her fingers traced the lines of his abs, and in response, he pulled her shirt off in one swift motion. His gaze darkened as he took her in.
"You're so damn beautiful," he murmured, his voice rough with desire.
Skye smirked, pulling him down into another heated kiss. "Then show me how much you want me," she whispered against his lips.
That was all it took.
Clothes were shed quickly, their bare skin finally pressing together, sending sparks through her body. Robby moved slowly at first, savoring the feeling of her beneath him, his lips exploring her collarbone, her shoulders, the curve of her waist. But as their bodies pressed closer, the slow burn turned into something more urgent.
When he finally entered her, a deep, guttural sound left his throat, his forehead pressing against hers. They moved together in sync, their breaths mingling, their bodies lost in each other. Robby whispered her name like a prayer, his grip on her tightening as he buried himself deeper.
Skye arched against him, nails dragging down his back as waves of pleasure washed over her. Everything else melted away. The world, their problems, even the trip they were on. It was just them.
When they finally collapsed in a tangled mess of limbs and heavy breaths, Robby pulled her close, tucking her against his chest. His fingers traced lazy circles along her spine, his lips pressing soft kisses to her temple.
"I love you," he murmured, his voice softer now, filled with something deeper than just passion.
Skye's heart clenched, and she smiled, tilting her head to look at him. "I love you too," she whispered, pressing a kiss to his lips before resting her head against his chest.
They stayed like that, tangled up in each other, sleeping.
