Marinette didn't go to school the next day, or the next, or for the rest of that week. Alya and her mom would come by everyday and make sure she took her medicine and eat something. They always asked for her to come stay with them until her parents got back from China but she refused.
She was working the bakery today and sighed out of boredom since a customer hasn't come in for twenty minutes. She was playing a game on her phone when she heard the bell to the door ring and a customer came in. She could hear faint meows and shot her head up. Snow came in with a box of kittens.
"Um hey, Marinette." Snow smiled nervously.
"Uh hi. What you got there?" Marinette asked coming around the counter.
"Well, I found a box of kittens in the alley near my apartment building and I wanted to see if you wanted one." She smiled.
Marinette looked into the box with kittens in it. Each one was uniquely different. One looked at her right in the eyes and her heart melted. It was a beautiful black kitten with green eyes. The little kitten broke eye contact with the blunette and nudged a white kitten with blue eyes.
"Thank you but I don't think I can. My parents never let me have a pet before." Marinette said sadly.
"It's okay. I understand. Can I get a croissant?" She asked. Marinette nodded still looking at the kittens.
"Y-you know what? I can ask Alya to call the class and see if they want one. I can give you a table to use to set up outside the bakery." Marinette offered.
"That's a great idea. Thank!" Snow thanked. Marinette pulled out her phone and went to Alya's contact. She hesitated not sure if she should text her.
"C-could you text her for me while I get your order?" Marinette asked nervously. Snow gave her a sympathetic look.
"Sure." Snow texted Alya for her while Marinette got her croissant. Alya showed up ten minutes later out of breath.
"Kittens....where?!" She panted. Snow lifted up the box and Alya darted to her. She looked into the box filled with kittens with bright eyes.
"Oooh! Can I have this one?" Alya asked picking up a little orange kitten with a few black-brown stripes. Snow nodded and Alya squealed holding the kitten to her chest.
"I'm going to name her....Blog!" Alya said lifting the kitten to her nose and nuzzled its nose.
"Marinette are you getting one?" Alya asked. Marinette stared at her feet and shook her head no. Alya sighed at the lack of conversation her friend refused to have.
"I'm going to go set up a table outside for you, Snow." Alya said placing the kitten in her purse. Blog looked up at Alya from the purse and laid down.
"Thank you." Snow replied. She leaned against the counter eating her croissant.
"Marinette, technically you can talk to me. We're not really officially friends." Snow said tossing her napkin in the trash can like a basketball. Marinette looked at her confused.
"I heard what Chloe said the other day." Snow said with a sad smile.
"Please don't tell anyone." Marinette pleaded.
"I won't. All I said was you can talk to me." She said.
"You know, there's a saying in Scotland that I lived by." Snow said.
"What is it?"
"True bravery comes from the heart of the kindest warrior. And as far as I've seen, you're more kind than Rose. And it may not feel like your brave right now but you truly are." Snow said, a slight Scottish accent in her tone from being around Scotland for so long, plus the years she was trapped.
Snow lied about it being an old Scottish saying. It was actually what Tikki always told her. Tikki was smiling from under the counter, her hiding spot.
"Snow, the tables set up and some of our classmates are starting to show up." Alya informed. Marinette and Snow walked out the door. Marinette looked inside the box again to see the kitten she liked.
"You can hold him, Marinette." Snow chuckled picking up the little black kitten. Marinette took the kitten and held it close. She lifted it up and smiled as the small kitten excitedly licked her nose.
Students came and got kittens. Snow asked them to write down the student's name, which kitten they got, and the kittens name. She didn't know why she did that she just wanted to for fun she guessed. After twenty minutes they looked at paper with list.
Alya, orange black-brown striped, Blog
Alix, spiky gray kitten, Spike
Ivan, brown kitten with white stripes, Flora (gift for Mylene)
Rose and Juleka, blonde and black kitten, Prince.
That's all they had right now. They still had five kittens left. A white one with gray, black, and brown, what looked like, paint splatters on it, a brown kitten with an orange sock foot, a black and white one with a few small gray dots on it and a ear that was slightly ripped and had missing flesh on it, a white one, and the black one Marinette liked.
The sound of running footsteps came up to them and then stood a panting Nathanael.
"Nathanael!" Snow smiled. She stood up giving the little shorty a quick hug. A small blush spread across his cheeks. Or was he just winded?
"Am I too late for the kittens?" He asked. Snow shook her head.
"In fact, I think you'll love this one!" Snow exclaimed picking up the paint splattered looking kitten from the box. Nathanael had a huge smile on his face as he carefully grabbed the kitten from Snow.
"I love her. I'll name her...Paint." The sweet boy said hugging the kitten closer to him. After Nathanael left with his new companion, two boys showed up.
"Hey, girls." Adrien and Nino said in unison. Marinette buried her face into her kitten. She hasn't seen them in a week and was a little embarrassed.
"Hey. Y'all here to get kittens?" Alya asked petting Blog. They nodded.
"Adrien, how did you convince your dad?" Alya asked.
"Extra photo shoots." He sighed. Nino gave him a friendly pat on the back.
"Hey, Marinette." Adrien said with a smile and a small wave. Marinette didn't respond or even look at him, she just waved. It was starting to get hot for her standing outside in a jacket and the nervousness didn't help from not sweating.
"Well there are plenty of kittens left. Four to be exact." Snow said gesturing to the box. Nino looked in first and picked up the brown one with an orange sock foot. Basically claiming him.
"I'll name him...DJ!" He decided.
"Knew it." Alya chuckled. Nino stuck his tongue out at her.
"What's your's then?" He asked with a smirk.
"Her names Blog." She murmured. Nino laughed.
"Knew it." He said, copying her previous statement.
"What about your's Marinette?" Adrien asked.
"Oh, actually he's not mine. I'm just holding him. W-would you like him?" Marinette asked a little sad, she didn't want to hand him over.
"Actually, I think I like this little one." He picked up the white one with bluebell eyes. The white one was a sweet, shy, playful one which was perfect for his personality.
"I'll name her Charm." He said with a bright smile. Charm put a paw on his nose which made him chuckle.
Then the unthinkable happened. Chloe showed up. She sashayed over and Marinette grew more nervous.
"Hey Adrikinz! Wow it looks like we both likes cat. Doesn't that just make us purrfect. Ha! Look how funny I am." Chloe laughed. She looked in the box and saw the only one left in the box.
"Ew, this one has a stupid ear." She gagged. She looked over at Marinette and saw the one she was holding.
"Mari-trash, give me her." Chloe demanded reaching a hand out to take the kitten.
"I-its a he." Marinette corrected. Chloe rolled her eyes.
"Don't care. Gimme." Chloe growled. The small cat buried hisself closer to Marinette and hissed at the blonde girl.
"N-no. H-He's mine." Marinette said holding the kitten tightly but not where she would hurt him. Snow smiled proud of her.
"What? I said gimme." Chloe said louder stomping her foot.
"N-No."
"Ugh. Whatever! I'll get a dog. Dogs are better than those rats." She said then stomped off. Marinette let out a shaky sigh of relief and nuzzled her face against her kitten to feel better. 'I guess I have no choice.' Marinette sighed.
"Good job, girl." Alya said punching Marinette lightly on the arm in congratulation.
"But what about that one?" Alya asked looking in the box.
"I don't know." Snow sighed.
"You could keep her." Nino said.
"I-I don't have the money." She said sadly.
"I could use help in the bakery. You'll get paid." Marinette offered quietly. Snow looked at her with a smile.
"Okay. Thank you so much." Snow said picking up the little kitten with a huge smile. She was happy that she wouldn't be alone in that apartment anymore.
"What're you going to name her?" Alya asked.
"I think her name will be....Tikki." She said. Marinette nearly choked on her own spit.
"Wh-Why Tikki?" Marinette asked nervously.
"Tikki is the name of my friend back in Scotland." Snow replied. That made Marinette relax a little. After the boys left and the girls cleaned up, Marinette headed to her room and sat in her bed with Tikki and her kitten.
"Marinette, you never named him." Tikki said flying up closer to her holder. Marinette stroked the kitten's soft, black fur. And then she thought of the most ironic name ever for the black cat.
"Lucky."
I realized a few errors I made so I edited it. (How I said Alya's kitten was named Plaid but later said the kitten's name was Blog. Yeah we'll stick to Blog.
