Sixty days before
After a calm and uneventful weekend during which the (h/c) haired female had spent some quality time with her family, she was now back in school.
Her head rested between her hands as she listened to the French teacher, Shin beside her. She let out a sigh, eager for the hour to come to an end. Usually she would love French hours, but today's lesson was boring as ever, plus Monday mornings had never been her thing. But was it anyone's ?
The shy male gazed over to the dreaming girl beside him, her eyes focused on the board despite her obvious disinterest in the analysis of Le rouge et le noir by Stendhal. Not that he could blame her when he too got lost after the twenty first minutes of class. Not that the book was annoying or boring, it was a classic and very interesting, however the analysis given by their teacher was.
An idea to sort them out of their boredom suddenly popped in the boy's brain as he ripped a small piece of paper from his agenda, taking out his pen and beginning to write a few words, then folding it neatly. Afterwards he discreetly passed the paper to the female next to him, his eyes searching hers. The girl noticed the note and unfolded it, her eyes scanned her friend's graceful writing.
'Enjoyed your weekend ?'
The girl grabbed her pen and began to write back. She then passed the paper back to the male who waited for her response while watching her trace the letters. He then retrieved the note, reading her answer, a curious glint in his grey eyes.
'Watched (f/s) with my family between two essays and you ?'
The male's lips curved in a gentle smile as he wrote down his answer.
His heart filled with warmth, an agreeable feeling creeping inside of his chest and making his whole body alive. It had been a long time since anyone asked him how his weekend had been. The only friends he had in this new school were (Y/n) and the boys he lived with, but as they spent all their weekends together they did not need to ask him about it. Therefore having someone actually ask him how he was doing or how his weekend went was refreshing and pleasing.
'I wrote and completed my notebook... I'll have to buy a new one. Would you like to join me next weekend ?'
The male gazed a last time at his message. A light blush graced his cheeks as he wrote the words down.
After reading the paper the female gazed up at him and smiled as she nodded, muttering a soundless okay. It was settled then, and the male couldn't wait to see her alone.
'And I meant to ask you ... Would you mind if I called you ? I mean in case I need help in French...'
The male returned the note, his cheeks warmer than before as he hoped the girl would accept. Would she believe his lame excuse ? All he really wanted was a confirmation he could call her, rather for French or just to hear her voice and talk.
He gazed at her, scanning her reaction. Finally, a kind smile stretched her lips as she looked back at him, mouthing a silent " of course".
Uma sat down next to his (h/c) haired geography partner. He greeted her with a kind and friendly smile, waving his hand lightly. She replied with a smile of her own and another wave of the hand.
"How are you ?" She asked teasingly, even though she knew that this weekend had been everything but reposing for the male.
The boy scratched the back of his head, a half hearted chuckle leaving his lips as he took out his notebook and pencil case.
"Well... I must admit that two essays to write and a physics chapter to work on during the weekend isn't very relaxing... But I had time to take a walk in the park." He concluded, emphasising on the only highlight of his Sunday.
"You mean the park you photographed ? The one with the waterfall ?" (Y/n) queried curiously, eyes shining with interest.
"Yeah this one. I could take you there someday." The boy offered, enjoying the idea far too much to bear a rejection on her part. He craved to see how she'd look there, among the cascading droplets and greenery.
To his greatest pleasure the girl smiled cheerfully as she nodded. "Yes that would be awesome !"
"Care to share what you two are talking about ?" A deep masculine voice asked from the front of the room, just before them.
The two friends looked up, an angry geography teacher scowling and crossing his arms. Usually, Mr. C was known for his amusing and positive personality, passionate about his job and dedicated to geography. However one thing he despised above all was students talking during his class, this earned a few suspensions for some people. (Y/n) considered herself lucky to be on his good side as she was the only student actually caring and listening to his lessons, plus her grades weren't bad.
"Sorry Mr. C, this won't happen again." She excused themselves, her teacher's accusing stare softening as he let out a loud sigh.
"Please (Y/n), what am I going to do if even my best student turns her back on my lessons ? I need you !" He exclaimed dramatically, holding a hand to his heart for emphasis.
"I would never betray you !" The girl answered quickly, mimicking her teacher's dramatic tone and actions as she too placed a hand over her chest.
"I know. Well, let's get back to the lesson." the fifty year old man said as he turned back to the black board, taking the cylindrical clay between his fingers.
Uma stared at the girl beside him, clueless to what just took place before his very eyes. The female laughed quietly as she nudged his shoulder playfully.
"He's a friend."
The pink haired boy chuckled in response before quietly turning back to his notes.
But as the lesson passed he couldn't tear his mind off of the girl beside him. During the weekend he had desperately tried to take pictures. Without success. They were all dull, boring, tasteless and deprived of any charm or beauty. Nothing in comparison to the photo he had taken of the female a few days prior. Every single thought he had gravitated around her. She had given him satisfaction for his work. For the first time in his life he actually enjoyed, adored one of his pictures.
She entranced him, not only because of the way she transformed his work but just the simple idea of her seemed to get his heart to flutter.
It was ridiculous, he only knew her for such a short amount of time and yet she got him feeling this way ? That was surely something Chuichi would laugh at.
The pink haired boy turned away from his notes. His purple eyes landed on the concentrated female next to him.
A light frown crossed her brows as she hastily wrote down every single information she could gather. But even so she was mesmerizing. Her luscious (h/c) locks fell loosely at the sides of her face, her glimmering (e/c) eyes shone with determination and gentle ambition, her rosy lips remained slightly parted. He swore he could hear her breathing in and out.
"(Y/n)..." He murmured, without even meeting her eyes. He somewhat wanted to say her name.
However the girl immediately turned her eyes on him, curiously eyeing him as she awaited the other part of the sentence. One which did not exist obviously, however now he had to find something to say.
"I-I wanted to ask you something... Would you like to go to the park this weekend ? I'd like to take pictures, and they are really more pleasant when you're a part of them..." He said hesitantly, scared to sound weird.
'The last thing I want is for her to be freaked out...'
The girl stared at him for a moment, not knowing how to react. It was true the male had complimented her on the pictures he took of her last time, but it only happened once and he had taken pictures ten times more appealing than this one. However, if it could please her friend... Why not. What was the harm in accepting ? Even if she did not particularly like how she rendered on a camera.
"Okay, if this can help you in some way. But under one condition, let's be clear here." Her expression darkened as she locked eyes with him.
"Whatever you wish." He held her gaze, determined to have her photograph with him.
"No nudes. "
The male's cheeks turned a deep crimson as he coughed violently after choking on his own saliva. He gazed at her, confused, his mind running a whole marathon as unwanted images filled his brain.
"I-I would never-" He stuttered before getting interrupted by his friend's light laughter.
"Relax, I was kidding ! But still no nudes though." She reassured in amusement as the male let out a relaxed sigh.
"Got it, no nudes. But I might ask for swimsuits." Uma joked and laughed along with the female, looking forward to spending more time with her.
"Works for me !" (Y/) paused before asking, "But I already have a meeting with Shin this weekend... And we have yet to fixate a date so when would you like to meet ?"
The male's chest tightened painfully at the mention of the black haired male. An intense need to know what they were planning to do together took over him. Jealousy sure acted quickly. But it was silly right ? He didn't know her and what if Shin had a crush on her ? Sure (Y/n) was kind, smart, beautiful and...Inspiring. But that's all it was, she was his inspiration for new pictures. Nothing more.
"I don't have a special day in mind. What are you and Shin going to do ?" He still asked, innocently.
"He wanted to buy a new notebook as he just finished his old one. Though, I don't know how he manages to stick to one single notebook and finish it... Personally I have like, thirty of them back home and still feel the need to buy new ones..."
'Like socks.' The male thought as he remembered how he heard from Akio that the girl owned a pretty collection of those.
"Great. Well to tell you the truth Shin makes sure he owns only one notebook in order to finish it before buying another one. But he is basically like you."
"I guess most writers are like this in fact." She chuckled quietly, the male accompanying her as he silently agreed.
The white haired male stared at the letters and numbers defiling on the pages of his book. His brain processing every information. He wrote down a few numbers and symbols on his notebook, proceeding to resolve the equation.
Lately he had spent all his time studying physics and he felt like distressing with some maths. Somehow numbers always relaxed him. It was a sure value, something reliable and precise, definite, something one could control. Normally physics and sciences in general would also have this effect on him, but these few days he had felt it to be a bother. How could he have made such a lame mistake back there ? And why did she have to outsmart him on the topic he is supposed to excel at ?
And so he had been working on sciences ever since that day, in order to assure himself that no one would ever beat him anymore in a subject where he is supposed to be unbeatable. But it was not just physics...
Judging by her bulletins he managed to find thanks to his computer skills, the girl excelled almost everywhere, PE being her only downfall. How was it possible ? What was her method ?
Something had to be wrong. He spent hours and hours working in order to excel and reach perfection, to be number one. Yet she beat him in almost every subject.
The male closed his computer, shutting down the bulletins he downloaded after hacking the school's site. It was driving him nuts. Then his friends talking about her whenever the occasion presented itself did not help either. What was so great about this girl ? Apart from her grades.
'I'll just have to find out what's her secret. You won't be at the top anymore silly girl.'
