Charlie's house kitchen
Evening
No one's pov:
Toni enters, throws down her bag and coat, still angry. She starts heading upstairs but Charlie enters from the kitchen.
"Your mom called. Again"
"Your fault, for telling her about the accident"
"She always did know how to worry" he mumbled a little. A bit of sadness coating his voice. "But she's changed too, she seems happy. Phil sounds alright"
"He is"
She continues upstairs, glancing at her parents wedding photo on the way.
High School Cafeteria
As Toni pushes through the door, she glances at the 'Blossom table', Cheryl with her siblings. She doesn't look at her. Anger and determination set in again as Toni joins Sweets, Fangs, Jughead, Ben, Izzy, and Angela at the lunch table, dropping her bag on the back of her seat.
"La Push baby, you in?" Fangs asked.
"La what? I've never heard of that"
"'La Push Beach' down on the Quileute rez. We're all going after school, there's a big swell coming in" Izzy explained.
"And I don't just surf the internet"
"Sweets you stood up once. On a foam board" Angela rolled her eyes.
"There's whale watching too, come with"
"La Push baby!" Fangs teased again.
"Fine I'll go if you stop saying that" Toni chuckled.
Salad bar station
Toni artfully designs a architectural salad. As she reaches for an apple, Cheryl is suddenly next to her.
"Hm, edible art" Cheryl hummed.
"Startled, Toni fumbles and drops the apple, but Cheryl catches it with her foot, hackeysack style, then bounces it back into her hand, the red of the apple, stark against her pale skin. She presents it to Toni with a small smile.
"Thanks...but your mood swings are giving me whiplash"
"I said I'd be better if we weren't friends, not that I didn't want to be"
"What does that even mean?"
"It means that if you were smart, you'd avoid me"
Cheryl inadvertently glances at her five inhumanly beautiful siblings, who wait for her, expectantly, at their table.
Toni notes her own, very human friends monitoring this conversation from their table. Ben glowers jealousy.
"So let's say, for arguments sake, that I'm not smart. Would you talk to me? Tell me that truth?"
"Probably not, I'd rather hear your theories"
"Okay....how 'bout radioactive spiders? Kryptonite?"
Cheryl leaves her gaze challenging.
"Your talking about superheroes. What if I'm not a hero? What if I'm the bad guy?"
Toni analyzes her a little closer.
"No I don't believe that, your not bad. You can be a jerk, but it's like this... mask, to keep people away"
Cheryl's taken back by her honesty, her insight, she's drawn in by her.
"Look, why don't we just...hang out? Like, come to the beach with us. It'll be fun, sand fleas, windburn, saltwater stinging your eyes.."
Cheryl shows a small smile, considering it.
"Which beach?"
"La Push"
Cheryl's smile falls, almost inperceptibly.
"What? Is something wrong with that beach?"
Cheryl glances back at Ben, the two share cold looks at one another.
"It's just a little cold"
And with that, Cheryl was walking away before Toni could get another word in.
La Push Beach'
After school
It's freezing but the guys still suit up for a surf. Toni wanders by the driftwood with Angela who's taking photographs.
"I keep thinking Eric's going to ask me to prom, then he just... doesn't"
Eric was also in their little "friend group" he's just more quiet.
"You could ask him" Toni suggested. "Look, your a strong independent woman, take control"
"I am?"
"Of course you are"
"Toni!"
They hear a voice in the distance call out. Toni looks up to see three boys approaching the group; Moose Mason, Sam, and Embry. Toni smiles at Moose, they've been friends forever.
"Hey! Guys this is moose" she smiled at them. "Are you stalking me?"
"Your on my rez remember. You going surfing?"
"Definitely not"
"Keep her company, her date bailed" Izzy teased.
"What date?" Eric butted in.
"She invited Cheryl"
"To be polite" Toni said embarrassed.
"I think it's nice she invited her. No one ever does" Angela said.
"Because Blossom's a freak" Ben snickered.
"You got that right" Sam said.
"You know them" asked Toni.
"The Blossom's don't come here" Sam said sharply.
Moose shoots Sam a look, shaking his head. Toni registers this. A beat goes by, then she casually pulls Moose aside.
"You wanna go look at tide pools?" She offers an awkwardly flirtatious smile. He grins and nods as they head down to the water.
"So what did your friend mean about the Blossom's not coming here?"
"Oop's. Caught that, huh?"
He moves closer to her, lowering his voice for mock-secrecy.
"Technically I'm not supposed to say anything"
Toni gives him her best alluring smile.
"I can keep a secret"
"It's just an old scary story" moose laughs. "Did you know the Quileute's are supposedly descended from wolves?"
"Like fur, fangs....doggy breath?"
Moose chuckles. Toni smiles and prompts him to continue.
"So the legend about the Blossom's is..?"
"Well, there supposedly descended from this like, 'enemy clan' but they claimed to be different, so we made a treaty with them"
"Didn't they just move here?"
"More like, just moved back"
"Riiight, so what was this treaty?"
"If they promised to stay off Quileute lands, we wouldn't expose what they really were to the pale faces" Moose whispered.
He takes a dramatic pause, causing Toni to shiver.
"AHHHH" a Feminine scream was heard.
Toni jumped at the sudden scream and watched as Angela ran past her, being chased by Eric who had a dead crustacean in his hand. Moose smirks and starts back to the group.
"Wait, what were they really?"
"It's just a story, Toni" Moose laughed.
Leaving Toni with more unanswered questions.

Toni's friends know she's bisexual.
Moose is going to be the 'Jacob' in this story just because.
