"Sometimes following your heart, means losing your mind."

I was always a small wolf. Really small. People often called me fox because I was so small. I understood the danger, I couldn't run like the others, I couldn't howl like the others. I couldn't survive like the others. It was a sensitive topic for me. I often blew up about it and demanded everyone stop treating me like a baby. This was my mistake...

I got lost in the woods. I was barking and howling and doing anything to get their attention. I got the attention of some humans. Too fast everything went and now I find myself petted and collared in some boys bedroom.

Can I also mention that it's my mate's room?

  And that he's human?

Michelle's life was almost perfect. Loving family, great college, perfect grades, good friends, and a crush on one of the sweetest guys she's met. The only problem is that a local werewolf has decided she's his mate. With the struggles of falling in love and discovering things about herself she didn't know, she also gets thrown in the middle of a fued between the hunters and the hunted. He finally made eye contact and I couldn't tell what he was thinking, or how he was feeling at that moment. He had me shut out. "Dad won't let her in the pack." "I know." "Are you sure she's human?" I rub my eyes again, they were really beginning to burn. "Yes, unless I've gone absolutely insane." I stopped rubbing my eyes for a moment. "Maybe I am crazy? I feel like it." Caden sighed, "That's the mate bond. The longer you go without, the worse you get." I knew that. I didn't like to think about it, but we all grew up hearing about it. Going crazy, your body shutting down. Wolves weren't meant to be separated from their Soulmates. It physically and mentally drained them until they just one day gave up. I never thought it would happen to me since it doesn't ever actually happen. We all knew better. Unfortunately my human mate did not. Caden watched me from where he sat, he knew what I was thinking, and was thinking the same himself. We didn't know how much time I had. "Well, I for one, as Alpha, would not mind a human in our midst if she is your mate." I let a small chuckle slip out and leaned back in my chair, crossing my arms. "Is it because you're so accepting of humans, or because you insist on having me as your Beta?" Caden smirked at me, "Does it matter?"

My dream continued the one I'd been having for the past couple of nights. I ran, gasping for breath, through the familiar woods from a dark figure behind me. The faster I tried to run, the slower I seemed to go, until it was like I was running in place. I knew I needed to run. I was terrified of what the figure would do when he caught me. "Mara Leigh," a deep, smooth voice called. It was almost hypnotic. That was new. The figure had never spoke before now. I ran as fast as I could go, eyes searching the forest floor for a big stick or something that I could use to defend myself. "Mara Leigh!" the voice came again, this time more insistent. The forest slowly started to fade and I started to awake to someone shaking my shoulders. "Beau?" I mumbled, turning my head to the side. What's Beau doing in my room this time of night? Why is he shaking me? "Do not call me that name." My eyes flew open as I jumped at the voice from my dream. A face was right in front of mine, and just like the voice, it wasn't Beau. Before I could form a scream, a hand covered my mouth. I tried to bite it but I couldn't get my mouth to open. He's too strong. I started to use my whole body to try to get away, but he crawled on top of me, holding me down. I pulled the hidden knife out from under my pillow and slashed as hard as I could at him, but he just grabbed my wrist and squeezed it until the pain made me drop the knife. Then he grabbed both my hands in one of his and held them over my head. He held me down while I struggled. I grunted and moved and tried to kick and scream, but I only wore myself out. Exhausted, I stopped thrashing and let the tears flow freely down my cheeks. I didn't know what to do, so I just tried to prepare myself for whatever was coming.

They call them enforcers-They are the ones that come in and clean up when laws have been broken. They are the most feared and strongest of us. They were the ones who couldn't live peacefully in the packs so they decided to make use of them. Soliditary wolves with alpha personalities. I am not like them. I'm worse. I'm a considered a rogue. Something that must be hunted down an exterminated. I'm not a bad person and I've never hurt anyone in my life but my wolf, I can't control her when I shift. We saw something when we were young. My whole pack was slaughter before our eyes and now my wolf is like a wounded animal she lashes out at times unable to tell between friend and foes. A uncontrollable wolf is dangerous in a pack. That is why I chose to live as a rogue, hiding from the werewolf committee and their laws. Luckily I've learned to blend in very well but when I end up in the wrong place at the wrong time my peaceful life quickly comes to an end. Now I'm the prisoner of the enforcers who should have killed me. Why haven't they killed me? Well because by some cruel trick my mate turned out to be their leader. Now I'm stuck with someone who isn't sure if he should kill me or if he should take me to his bed. Don't I get a say in any of this? How could this possibly get any worse... Cover by @PANANABELS
