Chapter 14. Building castles in the sky

Zachariel rubbed his face in frustration while talking on the phone. His solemn gaze was alluring. He looked at his watch, then cut off his phone. "Is Zachariel okay, daddy? Genevieve asked me when she saw Zachariel staring at the waves. I stroked my child's head, then answered her with, "I hope so, baby girl." Zachariel joined us after taking a break. I grabbed his hand when he started gathering his cutlery, glass, and plate. Zachariel looked startled at me when I said, "Sit down and finish your meal, Zachariel. Ocean will heat your food for you." Zachariel chuckled, then uttered while taking a seat, "As you wish, sir."

Ocean shyly approached Zachariel, then asked him, "Can I have your plate, sir?" Zachariel nodded, then uttered while handing his plate over to Ocean, "Here you go, ma'am." I scowled when I saw Ocean blush. I poured some water into another glass for Zahariel. I placed the glass in front of Zachariel, then asked him, "Is everything alright, Zachariel?" The children sighed in relief when they saw Zachariel nod. Zachariel chuckled while looking at the kids, then replied to me with, "It was Zavier, sir. He wanted me to pick him up from a friend's house. I told him yesterday that I wasn't free today, but he still contacted me. I asked him to call a taxi because I didn't feel like driving from Santa Monica to Central LA." Briac and Chance looked in bewilderment at us. I ignored them because Zachariel had opened up for the first time to me.

Ocean placed Zachariel's plate in front of him, then uttered, "I have added some fruits on your plate, sir. Enjoy your meal." Zachariel nodded at Ocean, then responded to her with, "Thank you, ma'am." Dominique climbed onto my lap, then looked curiously at Zachariel. He leaned his head against my chest, then asked Zachariel, "Can you build sandcastles, uncle Zachariel?" Zachariel stroked Dominique's head, then replied to him with, "Of course, I can, Dominique." Genevieve and Jacques instantly started kicking their legs in excitement. Zachariel burst out laughing, then asked the kids, "Do you guys need help in building a sandcastle?" The kids nodded simultaneously. Zachariel grinned at the kids, then uttered, "Why don't you guys take a nap first. I'll be here when you wake up."

Jacques looked at Zachariel in astonishment, then asked him, "Are you going to wait till we wake up, uncle Zachariel?" Zachariel smiled at Jacques, then answered him with, "Yes, I am, Jacques. I still need to take some photos. I'll be back in an hour." The kids squealed while looking at me. I asked Bertha to take them to their room. Zachariel stood up as soon as he had finished eating. "Do you need help with anything, Zachariel?" I asked Zachariel while getting up. Zachariel shook his head, then replied to me with, "No, sir. I can handle it. Thanks for asking. I'll see you in an hour." Zachariel looked in Briac's direction, then uttered, "The food was delicious. Thanks for inviting me, Briac." Briac nodded at Zachariel, then responded to him with, "You are welcome, Zach. See you later."

I led Zachariel to the door, then uttered while opening it for him, "The children will be waiting for you, Zachariel." Zachariel nodded, then said before walking away in confidence, "Don't worry, sir. I'll be here on time." I sighed while looking at Zachariel's back. I had a feeling that he was still operating his online business. He wasn't breaking any laws by working in private. People probably couldn't wait for a professional like him to work on their projects. "I bet that he has a hundred percent success rate," I thought to myself while walking towards the deck again. Chance crossed his arms across his chest, then asked me, "Can you tell us what's going on between Zachariel and you, Alexei? It seems like you know a lot about the stranger." "Stop acting hostile towards Zachariel, Chance," I yelled while glaring at my best friend.

Chance frowned at me, then uttered, "Well, excuse me for being cautious. Have you forgotten that we don't know anything about him yet, Alexei?" I sighed then responded to Chance while taking a seat with, "You are right, Chance. We don't know much about him, and I'm okay with it for now. Zachariel is a genius. Don't you think that he would have destroyed our company by now if that was his goal?" Chance contemplated for a bit, then replied to me with, "You have a point, Alexei. I'm sorry for overreacting. I hope that he doesn't think that I'm a jerk." Briac groaned, then said, "He didn't let your words bother him because he knows that he won't meet us under such circumstances again. He has helped me so much since he joined the company. It seemed like he would be a great friend to have around. Who knows what he thinks about us now." Chance put his hand on Briac's shoulder, then said to him, "I'll make it up to Zachariel when the time comes, Briac." Chance looked questioningly at me suddenly, then asked me, "How come you know this Zavier guy, Alexei?"
